July 4th New York City

The 4th of July is an important holiday in the United States, as it marks the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. New York, the largest city in the United States, holds the biggest celebration in the country with one of the largest fireworks shows in the world. It takes place in two locations along the East River from Midtown South and in New York Harbor near the Statue of Liberty.

Choosing to rent a furnished apartment when coming to New York for the 4th of July festivities offers a way to be closer to the action and allows you to experience the event more like a local New Yorker would. New York Habitat has a variety of accommodations ranging from a short walk to a viewing spot to apartments that have a view of the fireworks just outside their windows.

Battery Park and Financial District apartments:

Apartments in this area are ideal for watching the fireworks because many of the apartments, especially those in luxury high-rise buildings, offer views of New York Harbor and the Statue of Liberty right out their windows. Some of the offerings that are ideal for this event include: Studio in Battery Park (NY-11925) for $189 a night and 4 Bedroom Rental in Tribeca (NY-1965) for $540 per night.

Midtown East accommodations:

Unlike Battery Park and the Financial District, there are few buildings that have great views of the East River, but there are many apartments located in Murray Hill, Kips Bay and near the United Nations that are just a short walk from the East River.

If you decide to choose a Midtown apartment to watch the fireworks, look for something east of Third Avenue for the shortest walks to Franklin Delano Roosevelt Drive; this road is closed to traffic during the fireworks so that people can stand on the highway and watch the action.

Some Midtown apartments that are well suited for this option include 2 Bedroom Rental in Murray Hill, Midtown East (NY-4454) for $702 per night and (NY-10448) 1 Bedroom Rental in Gramercy, Midtown East for $1485 per week.

So, if you are a fan of fireworks and want to see an incredible show, consider making New York your destination for July 4th, 2007. Once you’ve made your decision, it is in your best interests to begin making your plans early because the best properties are often reserved months in advance.

Tip for other fireworks lovers: there are cruises where you can enjoy the fireworks from the river - I did it last year and it was excellent + they also serve drinks, food and music on board.

The river cruises sound fun, but for the seasick-prone, the fireworks near the South Street Seaport are a good show and there are usually River to River Festival events before the fireworks.
