Garden City, NY, February 6, 2002 -- In recognition of its commitment to the travel industry, the International Airlines Travel Agent Network recently honored and welcomed the 1,000th agency-New York Habitat-into its growing family of Travel Service Intermediary (TSI) agency locations.
Marie-Reine Jezequel is the long-time owner and president of New York Habitat, an agency in Manhattan, New York that specializes in renting Villa in southern France and apartments and townhouses in Paris. The company also arranges stays for inbound travelers from around the world. "I believe that with the Internet and advances in technology, the broker and the travel agent will share even more similarities in the future," said Jezequel.
When IATAN introduced the Travel Service Intermediary (TSI) Agency Program four years ago, its purpose was to recognize those travel agencies that wanted endorsement, but did not hold airline ticket stock. Whether they are a cruise agency, home-based agency or some other category of agency, IATAN recognized the need to expand its endorsement program to include this segment of the travel agency distribution system.
Because the TSI Agency Program has specific standards for endorsement that must be met and adhered to-similar to those for airline-appointed agencies-the TSI Agency is also assigned an IATA numeric code and is included in all of IATA and IATAN's database products.
This facilitates the ability to easily transact business with industry suppliers who rely on the value of IATAN endorsement as a fast and convenient way to verify an agency's credentials. It also means that endorsed TSI Agencies can enjoy the benefits of IATAN's popular ID Card Program.
According to Mike Maino, president and CEO of IATAN, there was a 30% increase in 2001 over the previous year in IATAN endorsed TSI agency locations. "I believe that in the future, the TSI Agency will continue to be the fastest growing segment of the travel agency distribution system," he said.
