Neighborhood: Brooklyn Heights has received designation as an historic district in the early 1960s. Nearly all of its buildings date from the 19th century. It attracts visitors from all over the city. It is also a very safe neighborhood, quiet, residential, with extremely varied and interesting architecture. Middagh St. is only a short distance from the Fulton Ferry district under the Brooklyn Bridge, where there are restaurants, the famous Music Barge, and a state park along the river. It is the home of noted writers, artists and architects, including Norman Mailer and the late Norman Rosten, Brooklyn's poet laureate.

Atlantic Ave. at the south end of the Heights is a noted near eastern shopping area. Atlantic Ave, also has numerous ethnic boutiques and antique shops. It starts at the river and runs across all of Brooklyn. There is a local Brooklyn Heights movie house and a large multiplex on Court St. within walking distance, as well as one a bit further down Court St. in Cobble Hill. There are churches of several denominations and a synagogue, including historic Plymouth Church nearby, where Henry Ward Beecher was minister and preached against slavery.

Brooklyn Heights is also within walking distance (or a short bus ride) of the downtown Brooklyn shopping area, Brooklyn Borough Hall, state courts, main post office, and new educational institutions. The whole area from downtown Brooklyn to the Atlantic Ave. LIRR terminal area is being rapidly redeveloped. Transportation is excellent: all three subway lines (IRT, IND, BMT) run into Brooklyn Heights, which is only one stop from Manhattan. Middagh St. is only a couple of blocks from the Brooklyn entrance to the pedestrian walk of the Brooklyn Bridge, and guests can walk or bike over the bridge, which ends near City Hall and the Municipal Building and the park area near by. Chinatown is only a short distance from there. There are numerous car and taxi services available. Montague St. and Henry St. are the major shopping streets besides Atlantic Ave., with supermarkets, small delis, cafes, and specialty shops, and a new Garden of Eden store, as well as local restaurants, some highly praised like Noodle Pudding and Henry's End. The famous River Cafe is down the hill at the Fulton Ferry area, in a barge on the river and a nice place for drinks in good weather.

Other: no smoking allowed inside house. Cash or traveller's checks accepted only. Full payment required up front before key is provided. Extra charge for third person except for infant or smallchild. Special rates available for long stays (over one week). References requested for longer stays. No outside guests. No cats.
