Review by: Silke F.,

Apartment Rental: 2 months

positive: clean and nice design

negative: drug area, it is impossible to sleep on the sofa (very big and hard spiral springs), I had to buy an airbed. Owner is unfriendly if things are not done her way, unflexible, gives short shrift to somebody, unreliable (doesn't show up on several meetings/cancel 10 min before meeting with out excuse and appoint new meeting time without asking me time is okay or not).

Owner brings people to apt for showing several times a week. I had to fight to get back my deposit. I had to deal with the electricity company of NYC (coned) to pay my utilities. That is too difficult for a tourist of a foreign country, especially if your English is not very good. I waisted 7 full days of my holiday to handle the utilities and to fight/get back my deposit. Too many hard problems and anger for a holiday, without the help of 2 native New Yorker friends I would have more trouble. NEVER AGAIN!!!

I have been here as a landlord for 10 years and am personally not aware of drug activity. As far as I know Silke choose this area/apt because of the location. Her boyfriend was part of the initial process of her renting the apt. In fact, he came to drop off her security deposit before she arrived in NYC.

Silke never complained about the sofa bed; so this is the first I am hearing about it. However I will check the sofa bed, and if need be I will make a change.

As far as showing the apartment to prospective tenants, typically, NYC landlords show their apartments before the current tenant vacates to ensure continued rental income. Silke was given 24-48 notice each time I was due to show the apartment.

My tenants are responsible for their own utilities. When they move in, they are giving written information on how to call and set up an account with the utility company (Con Edison), and the apartment ID.

Approximately a week before she was due to leave. Silke informed me that she was having a problem with the bill she received from the Cities utility company (Con Edison). I investigated and explained to Silke how to correct the problem and what she needed to do to resolve it. I returned the entire security deposit since Silke fulfilled her end.
