1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom - Sleeps

Located in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, New York, this one bedroom apartment is on the top floor of 3-story (equivalent to the European 2-story) walk-up building. Built in 1868, this classic New York brownstone has an intercom and buzzer security system. With both northern and southern exposure, it offers street views and overlooks the private backyard, while at the same time making the unit bright and sunny.

As you enter the apartment, you step into the classy living area, with its exposed brick wall and working fireplace that pair nicely with the hardwood floors. It is furnished with a queen-size sofa bed, a coffee table, two dining tables, a large bookcase, and a rocking chair—ideal for relaxing and reading a good book! Next to the living room is the separate kitchen, which is equipped with the major appliances and utensils, as well as a dishwasher. It has a window facing the street so that you can enjoy the view while you prepare your meals. The bedroom has a double bed and dresser and its two windows overlook the big trees in the backyard. The bathroom is equipped with a bathtub and shower, toilet, and sink.

Step outside onto the lively streets of Chelsea, a trendy and diverse neighborhood with a mix of business professionals, artists and “fashionistas”. On 15th Street and 8th Avenue, the one bedroom apartment is close to other cool neighborhoods like West Village and the Meatpacking District. The latter is a small area of just 8 blocks but it is packed with some of the most upscale bars, clubs, restaurants, and boutiques! Visit the elevated High Line Park, a public park converted from a historic freight rail line, which offers amazing views of Manhattan’s West Side skyline. Artsy and hip, Chelsea is a bustling area where you’ll be within easy reach of all the daily conveniences and get to experience different atmospheres as you walk around the area!  In case you want to go to other parts of NYC, you can take the A, C, E and L trains (2 blocks) at the 14 Street / 8 Avenue station and the 1, 2, and 3 trains (three blocks) at the 14 Street / 7 Avenue station.

The apartment is in an absolutely awesome location in Chelsea. It is also very large for a 1 br by NYC standards. It's a little older, but there was a ton of space, you're close to the West Side Highway (if you want to run/bike), a block from Chelsea Market, subway is right there, etc. etc.

Thelma and Albert are extremely gracious hosts who raised their kids in the building. Extremely responsive and helpful.

Only constructive feedback is that the Wifi was a little slow. I would definitely stay here again.

We loved our first visit to New York helped by the great location of this apartment and the easy access to the best of Manhattan. The apartment is bright, airy and roomy and provided us with all we needed for our stay.

The delightful owners live in the building and were extremely helpful with local knowledge and helping us whenever we asked. We left with great memories.

The apartment is located in a great neighborhood, really awesome!! Chelsea Market = high quality shopping facilities, Highline Park, Highline Ballroom = good concerts, very good restaurants in the area! The owners are very nice, helpful and straightforward. Good subway connections in all directions.

The apartment is old and has a bad smell. For a longer term rental, it is too personal. It has too many of the owner's personal belongings. The closets are partly filled with the owner's clothes.

The ventilation in the parking block across the street makes a continuous noise. But you get used to it surprisingly quickly.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review Cornelila. We take your comments seriously as they afford us the opportunity to make future and returning guests feel more comfortable which is always our goal.

We are very happy that you enjoyed the neighborhood, ideal to visit so many places, and that you found it easy to get around. The neighborhood is indeed awesome, vibrant and accessible. We have recently reviewed the pictures on the website and what you see is what the apartment looks like.

The building is old, built in the 1800's, and adjoins the historic Meatpacking District and the picturesque and cobblestone streets of Chelsea and the West Village, so rich in history filled with compelling figures, yet trendsetting and modern (just check out the Apple Store on the corner of 14th Street and hang out on the triangle for free tango lessons in the summertime).

The building across from us is not a parking block but the New York headquarters for Google. The bedroom is in the rear overlooking a garden which offers both quiet and a delightful breeze. The apartment is fully furnished, an extension of our home filled with books and cds and the nuts and bolts of living which you can see from the picture of the bookcase in the main living room.

You won't be missing anything, from office supplies - scotch tape and staplers - to just about everything you need in a kitchen. So many of our guests have appreciated these extras, saying that it has made their stay more homey and allowed them comforts not available in hotels, after long days of trying to take in so much or return from a day of work for our longer stay guests. The pictures also reveal a bedroom without any personal items, plenty of storage with a full closet, chest of drawers and open shelving.

We have removed items temporarily placed in the second closet in the entryway which we offered to do for you as well, but which now allows for additional storage should you need it.

Please note that the apartment is professionally cleaned after each guest. We did note that the flowers in water that we set out upon your arrival were still in the apartment when you left and perhaps this is what you smelled?

Thank you for the Swiss chocolates you left for us and we know that you carried home some wonderful memories.

apartment is ideally located near the main subway lines. the neighborhood is very nice, with all facilities easily accessible, including chelsea market just next door. Very friendly owner - who can speak French - with a very warm welcome. Just the sofa bed mattress will need to be changed. We'd be happy to go back.

This is the first negative feedback the owner has received on the comfort of the futon and does not think it needs to be changed at this time, but is willing to do so if necessary in the future.

I am really satisfied! The vacation rental we booked in New York was in optimal location, quiet street, well connected to the subway, near shops to buy groceries, and restaurants and cafes where to take a break. The owners greeted us with a lot of kindness (even with a bottle of wine in the fridge :o) and demonstrated and were indeed available.
The only item regarding this great week: the apartment, probably due to an old building, was a bit worn out....and I repeat worn out not dirty, and I want it to be clear so that there is no erroneous interpretation. as for the rest....it was all fantastic!

I would like to start by giving some feedback regarding the agent at New York Habitat, Gisela Kruse. She is very service-minded and fast with response to all sort of questions and being able to give us a good selection of apartment to choose from. She was also very helpful during the chaotic days with Volcanic ash-cloud that stopped us the first time, the same thing can be said about the apartment owners that was so kind when we were forced to cancel the first trip.

I was exchanging some mails with the owners of the vacation rental before we arrived to NYC and they were always very fast to give response and very helpful. We got a very warm and positive welcome when we arrived, that always help when you are tired and jet-lagged, with some basic information (where to find grocery) and a lot of maps and tips on what to do. This was more or less the only time we met in person and then we changed a couple of "letters" with questions and answers - we really felt that we come and go as we wanted but that we always could ask if we had some questions.

The apartment had more or less everything you need for a vacation week with a fully equipped kitchen even if we only make breakfast there. The location of the apartment is also very good with to metro stations close by and the lovely Chelsea market around the corner. Another plus was that it's very close to Hudson park that is perfect for jogging.

We will try to book the same apartment if (or maybe more correct, when) we are coming back.

The apartment we rented was perfect for what we were after. West 15th Street is a magic location and Chelsea is one of the nicest neighbourhoods. We had great access to the 14th Street subway stops which made it easy to get around Manhattan.

Our hosts were very helpful in terms of providing information about events, festivals and even offered us their beach blanket for 4th of July celebrations.

The apartment was just the right size for a 3 week holiday and thank God for the air conditioning as New York was in the middle of a heat wave when we visited.

When we return to NYC we will rent this vacation rental again. For those who want to discover the city, it is close to the subway and central with easy access to sites. The neighborhood is really nice with all facilities close by, especially for food (including croissants a few steps away at the Chelsea Market). It is typical and functional (there were three of us including our 19 year old daughter). Given how hot it was, it was nice to have AC. The accommodation owners live on the first story and are very nice (incidentally, they speak French). We loved our stay in that apartment. And to those who want to pace the whole city up and down, one piece of advice: get good shoes!

We really liked the apartment we stayed in. The owners were very nice and they welcomed us perfectly. The apartment was rather clean, and the interior decoration was fine. It was quite calm, near a subway station. Moreover, we didn't lack anything to cook and the bathroom was okay. Actually, if we come back to New York, we would probably ask again for this apartment.

We were very content with the apartment and felt well in this neighborhood [Chelsea]. [The owners of the vacation rental] were very friendly and helpful. The apartment was as we expected it, silent and with much space for my husband, me and our two daughters (20 an 23).

We had a lovely stay in this Manhattan apartment in Chelsea recently. It's conveniently located 1/2 block from the 8th Ave. subway and felt like a very safe neighborhood. The owners (who live on the 2nd floor) were quite hospitable yet unobtrusive, and we found the place to be roomy, well kept, quiet, and comfortable. Our teenager had her own space on the futon bed in the living room and we had a separate bedroom. After long days in the city, it was a welcome refuge for us to come home to this space and be able to cook some food and relax- so much better than if we had rented a hotel! We look forward to returning some day.
