Simplicity and elegance are two words that come to mind when viewing this Midtown East studio. While the furnishings could be considered minimalist, all the basics are present, and the contemporary style in combination with the pre-war building details make this rental a great find for those who are looking to stay in central Manhattan. The apartment is on the 1st floor (considered the ground floor by Europeans) of a walk-up building dating back to 1910 situated on East 44th Street and 2nd Avenue. A buzzer/intercom system allows you to screen guests.
Natural colored hardwood floors and exposed brick walls add warmth and color to this studio apartment, which has white furnishings and walls. The combined living and sleeping area is to the left as you enter, with the kitchen and the bathroom to the right and a closet situated in between. Highlights include a convertible futon sofa that faces a wall-mounted flat screen television for when you are entertaining guests, a lovely decorative fireplace and a queen size bed. The two windows look away from the street to the rear of the building. The kitchen has a microwave, two burner hot plate and a refrigerator with freezer, however please note that there is no oven for baking.
This apartment is not far from NYC notables, such as the United Nation Headquarters and Grand Central Station. Many international missions dot the streets as you walk toward the UN, which is less than a block away. If you travel frequently around New York, than you will be happy to have the iconic Grand Central Terminal four blocks from your building, which not only serves 3 subway lines, but also has trains that run out of the city to other New York state and Connecticut destinations. The East River is also just a few blocks away, where you can admire the Brooklyn / Queens skyline over Roosevelt Island. As far as nearby conveniences, you will find many restaurants and bars on 2nd Avenue, and the blocks surrounding Grand Central contain many clothing stores like J. Crew, Urban Outfitters, H&M, Coach and more! there is even an Apple store in the Terminal.
For getting around Manhattan and the other boroughs, you can hop on the S train at Grand Central, which will take you to Time Square (Midtown West) in one stop, and the 7 train which runs to Bryant Park and through Queens to the bus that will take you to LaGuardia Airport. Finally the 4, 5, 6 line offers both express and local trains, allowing your travel to be more efficient.
