Do you wish to enjoy the convenience of living downtown but also appreciate the sophistication and quiet living generally reserved for uptown neighborhoods? Well the Gramercy area is one of the only neighborhoods in central Manhattan that offers both! You will be bordered by the busy Union Square and trendy East Village, and surrounded by beautiful townhouses and brownstones that make the charm of Gramercy! This alcove studio is located on the 1st floor (ground floor for Europeans) of a four story walk-up townhouse at the corner of 15th Street and 1st Avenue.
The building has several desirable features like a buzzer/intercom system and a shared laundry room in the basement.
The décor of this apartment in shades of beige and brown gives it an intimate feel and will make you feel right at home! This alcove studio offers a 150 sq ft (14 m²) sleeping area, separated from the living area for privacy and furnished with all the amenities of a real bedroom: a queen bed, closet and under-bed storage, as well as a wall-mounted TV with cable. The kitchen is lightly equipped with stainless steel appliances and the living area has a dining table seating 2 and a northern exposed window overlooking the street. While there is no formal oven, there is a hot plate and a microwave to prepare simpler meals. In the bathroom you'll find a walk-in shower screened by a glass door.
Air conditioning is available in the sleeping and dining area.
Please note that there is a hospital close to the apartment, therefore some siren noise can be heard at times.
Gramercy and the surrounding neighborhoods offer so may attractions and places of interest that you will never run out of things to do! Among the numerous activities we recommend that you check out the following:
- Union Square: less than half-a-mile away (700m) this historic intersection in Manhattan has everything from fashion stores, restaurants and supermarkets to a farmer's market 4 days a week and a park where you can enjoy the food bought at the market!
- Stuyvesant Square: this park is located right around the corner so you won't have to go far to find a place to relax!
- Restaurants: from upscale restaurants to sandwich places, pizzerias or cafés, this area has it all. Get a slice of the artichoke pizza that made Artichoke Basille's Pizza famous in NYC (0.2 miles / 300 m away), or try out some delicious Asian food at Momofuku Noodle Bar, a must-go during your stay in New York and located 0.3 miles (450 m) north of your apartment.
- Nightlife: famous for having the best dive bars and clubs in New York, East Village (starting one block south) is the place to be if you like to go out. Check out Keybar only 2 blocks away, or Lucy's (0.5 miles / 800 m).
The closest subway station is 1 Avenue / 14 Street, serving the L line that will take you to Union Square in only two stops. Here you can transfer to 6 other lines running to both ends of Manhattan, as well as Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx.
