Description
Studio Apartment in Chelsea (NY-8404)

This is a studio apartment furnished in a basic contemporary style, situated in Manhattan’s well-known Chelsea neighborhood. It is conveniently located in an active community near the downtown nightlife scene and uptown tourist attractions.

Found near the intersection of 18th Street & 7th Avenue, this studio apartment for rent is on the 3rd floor (considered 2nd in Europe) of a mid-rise building with an elevator. For privacy assurance, a buzzer/intercom security system is in place.

Spanning a total of approximately 400sqft (37.1sqm), this studio features hard wood flooring, prewar arched doorways, and a charming decorative fireplace. A double-sized futon bed accommodates sleeping space, seating space, and maximizes the floor space. A cable television provides indoor entertainment and there is a closet to accommodate item storage.

An open kitchen is somewhat separate, situated in a nook in the open dining alcove. It presents shelf space and a round wooden dining table. Appliances include one oven with electric burners, microwave, and refrigerator. A tiled bathroom offers one shower and tub.

Chelsea, Manhattan is an artistic New York community beloved by hipsters and celebrities. The other name of 7th Avenue is "Fashion Avenue", so keep your eyes open for familiar faces! Here you can also find art galleries, boutique and chain shops, as well as the avenue thoroughfares lined with bars and shops. Listed below are some suggestions of what to do in the neighborhood.

- High Line: Walk across this elevated park built on a former railway on a sunny day and enjoy the panoramic views across the Hudson River. It stretches from the meatpacking district to the northern end of Chelsea. 0.7mi/1.1km. Accessible via foot.

- Chelsea Market: Check out the popular food vendors in this large historic building. Located at 75 Ninth Avenue. 0.4mi/650m. Accessible via foot.

- Gladstone Gallery: Visit this conceptual art gallery. Located at 515 West 24th Street. 0.8mi/1.3km. Accessible via foot or train.

- Blossom Vegan Restaurant: Enjoy dinner at this popular vegan (and hipster!) restaurant. Located at 187 Ninth Avenue. 0.4mi/700m. Accessible via foot.

For public transportation around Manhattan and into other NYC boroughs, walk to 18 street / 7 Avenue to catch the 1 train (292ft/89m) which makes local stops along the West Side. Additionally, you may walk to 14 Street / 8 Avenue for the A, C, E, and L trains (0.2mi/350m), which has trains running east-west along 14th Street and into Brooklyn and express and local trains running north-south.

To be honest I didn't like the apartment and it looked very different to the location pictures - but that is very personal so the owner is not to blame. The linens and all are good, the bed is very short and the futon is kind of old and should be changed or turned or whatever one has to do with a futon. The heating system is old and very loud at night but all my friends told me that this is somehow normal in New York. I had to find out myself about the wi-fi by calling time warner. I think that is not so good. Later I informed David about the passwords etc. For one week of wi-fi I had to pay 140.00$ - which seems a bit high. I didn't discuss it with David because I was happy to move out after 1 week because I found a wonderful place that I rented permenantly so again ...that was my personal decicion.I had roaches - just 2, also normal in NYC and I did let the exterminator in which was a morning of my time. The location of the apartment is awesome so with a few little changes it will be a great place again.I really think you should go and have a look yourself.

Thank you for your review, Bettina. I'm sorry you weren't entirely satisfied with your stay and found the futon uncomfortable and the heating loud. I appreciate your feedback and would like to address some of it here:

The internet and cable charge was rather high but I have now contacted the service provider and the rate is much more reasonable.

I believe I sent you the proper passwords but I did also let you know it is easier to contact Time Warner directly if you are having any wifi issues. Time Warner customer service is more helpful when someone is in the apartment when trying to connect.

As for the roaches, the super and the management exterminator attended to the two cockroaches as soon as I was informed about it.

Again, I'm sorry to hear that your stay was not entirely pleasant. Thank you for the review.

The apartment is tiny but actually comfortable. I found everything, starting from coffee maker, every kind of dishes and tableware and a spacious walk-in closet. Subway is really close (less than 20 meters far from the entrance) and you can easily reach any Manhattan neighborhood.

Close to the apartment there are many restaurants, food and fashion stores, art galleries, and also the famous Chelsea market. It's been a perfect location both for studying (in my case) and visiting New York.

    Hope to come back again.

The location is very convenient, close to the subway and you get basically what is promised. Sadly, the owner is a little forgetful so he forgot to give me the promised money for stuff I bought for the apartment.

Matias you were a very good guest. We had a little trouble with the Time Warner wireless internet modem. We both agreed that it would be best for you to go to the local Radio Shack to purchase what was needed.

I said I would reimburse you for the $20 item and I forgot to add it when I returned your security deposit. I would be more than happy to send you a check for this faux pas on my part.

Thank you Matias for this review of the apartment. We are glad that you liked the location of the premises. We communicated with the owner who confirmed he mailed a check to you, to rectify this oversight.

This is to let you know that the apartment [in Manhattan], NYC, worked out very well for me.

It had all the basic necessities and was in the location that I wanted, near to all transportation, etc.

Thank you for helping me to have a successful 2 month stay in New York City.
