About: East Village

The East Village is a very young neighborhood owing to the fact that there are three schools that house their students there. The neighborhood is located from 14th Street to Houston Street between 4th Avenue and the Bowery to the East River. The neighborhood is also home to many restaurants and shops representing the eclectic nature of the neighborhood. The East Village is a popular place to rent vacation rentals.

New York University, The New School and Cooper Union are all within blocks of each other and the kids who go there are drawn to the East Village with reasonably priced accommodations, lots of restaurants and nightlife. The East Village is full of bars and restaurants that are open until the wee hours of the morning. You can get just about any kind of food you could imagine in the East Village. On 6th street there is a block called Little India or Curry Hill because there is a wonderful line of Indian restaurants to fulfill any Indian food cravings. There is also an area called Little Ukraine where a large population of Ukrainians has settled. The staple of the area though is good cheap pizza. St. Marks Place which is a three block long section of 8th street is home to many karaoke bars, cheap pizza, hat stands and piercing boutiques.

It is a wonderful mix of cultures and great for people watching. The popular musical "Rent" was set in the East Village. The Merchant's House Museum is a tiny little museum that tells the history of a Merchant Family from the 1800s. It is completely preserved both inside and out. The Public Theater in the East Village is a great place to see new and interesting musicals and plays. The famous musical "A Chorus Line" opened there.

With all that the East Village has to offer consider renting a vacation rental there on your next trip to the East Village.
