I did have a great stay at the apartment due to it's location in NYC, however I found that having a room right next to the back of a restaurant was the main hindrance. Often times they would clean up at 4am and wake us.
Apr 02 2013The apartment did not have adequate heating, shower pressure or facilities like a working hair dryer for example. The toilet was also temperamental - I had to tap the handle a couple of times for the water to stop running.
Everything else was working fine and the concierge was very friendly and helpful though.

Dear Alicia. We are sorry about those issues. We have discussed with the restaurant about the late noise, and they are now much quieter, they understand this problem.
Apr 10 2013About the heat, it usually works fine, and we haven't received any other complaints. Maybe the week that you stayed there, the outside weather was very cold ? And the shower pressure is maybe not very strong, but it is also not low, no other complaints there.
About the hair dryer, sorry if it didn't work correctly during your stay. If you had told us about it, we would have immediately replaced it.

Apr 02 2013The toilet was not flushing for most of our stay. Beds not very comfortable No teaspoons, limited plaster and cutlery. Spending of about $20 on accesories would make things much better.

Dec 10 2012It is helpful. We were not aware that the mattresses are not comfortable in this apartment but I will make sure that someone checks on those ASAP. I will also look into the toilet problem. I will make sure that we get new teaspoons and other accessories for the kitchen. We usually change those twice a year but there may be times when they are lost or broken.

May 18 2012I went to the building today, and checked the apt, and I agree the shower head needs to be replaced, so it will be done tomorrow !
Also, we know that the walls are thin (as in many NYC apts) but never had any big complaints there. Maybe these guests got unlucky with noisy neighbors, so we always ask renters to be quiet and discreet.
And for the humidity, we also never had complaints there. There is a window in the apt to get fresh air, there is air conditioning / fan if needed, and also ventilation in the bathroom. Maybe if was rainy and humid outside when they were there ?
I will ask the cleaning staff to use air fresheners to get rid of the humidity smell if there is one.

The location is so good and the restaurants so numerous that the small size and the constricted kitchen area are easily forgotten. This is not a luxury apt., but the Building Manager is very pleasant and is quite willing to help with any questions or needs.
Apr 14 2011The value for your money is still quite interesting given that the general comfort/state of the vacation rental is largely compensated for by its location, right next to Broadway. The janitor/reception and his reliability are also a token of security when we arrive. The fact that the apartment is behind a restaurant doesn't actually cause the noise you might expect. This remains absolutely acceptable, once again thanks to the exceptional location.

Moreover you helped us find a solution when we had an issue with our dates and for storing our luggage. we will recommend you to our friends when they travel to New York. Sep 29 2010Our stay in New York was great, perfect location to explore the city, the person who did the check in was very kind, the apartment has old furniture and the bed were uncomfortable, they had wheels and kept moving, bed cushions were small, the AC was very noisy so we could not use it at night but we could hear the AC units from the neighbors anyway, we were so tired at night that it did not matter, nobody told us either about the pub by the apartment building, some night they left the back yard open at night and we could hear noises, partying and music.

We conveyed the comments from this review to the accommodation owner.The owner verified that the single beds do have wheels so that they are able to be rolled together to make a double bed. The owners have checked on the air conditioner and say that it is working fine, possibly a bit loud when it is on high, but not abnormally.
Sep 24 2010The owner has spoken with the restaurant managers and they said they will make sure that the back door to the restaurant is closed every night. New York Habitat has added information to the apartment descriptions about the beds and the restaurant location.
The Service received by New York Habitat was without fault and quite responsive. However, the apartment itself was very much a disappointment. Where to start is the question here: In the bathroom, the shower was full of mold and we did not have any hot water for the first 4 days; only on the last day did we receive some warmer water but the temperature could not be considered hot.
Sep 03 2010The television reception was unacceptable with only one channel working and even that one was unstable at best. The power points were loose and if you are not careful, you could be electrocuted. The lights in the room were laughable. The courtyard was nice but if the restaurant owner next door uses it at 2am to have arguments and wakes you up is not very nice.
All in all, whilst the location of the apartment is very convenient, I will not recommend it any further. The condition of the apartment does by no means justify the price. If a building inspector runs through the apartments, I would not be surprised if he would shut it down.

Further to this review, we contacted the owner of this apartment who confirmed that he will be sure to have cleaning crew thoroughly clean the apartments, making sure that the showers do not get overlooked, even in the humidity of New York City.
Sep 24 2010There was a problem with the water heater in July, but all has been repaired since then. The TV has been checked and is functioning properly. The owner has never received complaints before on the lighting of this apartment, and does not feel that the lighting is insufficient.
New York Habitat has added a note about the restaurant next door to this apartment in the description to better disclose this information to future clients. This apartment is located in the heart of Manhattan and is priced in accordance with other vacation rentals in the area.
The apartment was fine but here are some comments:
Jul 30 2010good things:
- Location great, near all needed shops and food and tourist things
- Size of apartment fine.
- Nice to have a kitchen, etc.
- Owners and on-site management really friendly and helpful.
not so great things:
- exposed to noise from café attached to courtyard of apartment
- people coming and going through entrance at all hours
- café is an arabic waterpipe (shisha) place so smoke is constant - feeds through air conditioning. smells nice at first like apples, etc, but after a while you fee ill because it is a constant tobacco air feed
- bathroom does not have any ventilation - so never really dries - producing mildew and towels that start to smell after two days because they never dry - not so nice in a place where you don't get fresh towels like in a hotel
- medium cleanliness - hair in corners
- ants passing through apartment, probably enjoying the apple smell and humid environment
- no curtains on window - just cheap white blinds so light pours into room early in morning...annoying after late night fun
So, not exactly ideal but it was OK since we spent most of the time out of the room! But still, for a bit of investment in could be much nicer.
New York Customer Service
The owner verified that there are 2 studio units located next to the building entrance. NYH added this information to the descriptions of these units so that this is disclosed to clients before renting. The bathroom vent was diabled during this clients' stay and is being repaired. The ant problem has been eliminated. Cleaning staff have been notified of the complaint. Owner says noise and smoke from cafe was due to construction which is now over and these problems are eliminated.
Sep 09 2010The apartment we rented was great and very well located, near Times Square and Port Authority. It was clean and quiet, except on the 1st night.... but maybe it was the excitement to be in New York City that prevented me from sleeping!

I will recommend New York Habitat and will contact you again for a future stay...
