Description
1 Bedroom Vacation Rental in Bedford Stuyvesant (NY-14321)
1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom - Sleeps 5

Hotel with Certificate of Authority.

Take in a bit of historic Brooklyn during your trip to NYC by staying in this renovated one bedroom vacation rent in Bedford-Stuyvesant! Dating from 1900, this apartment retains much of the original charm associated with brownstone buildings, such as wooden window sashes and two lovely decorative fireplaces. Found on the 2nd floor of a 4-story walk-up building, this apartment also offers the luxury of a private enclosed rooftop terrace, complete with wooden patio furniture that allows you to enjoy a meal outdoors!

The unique open layout of this one bedroom apartment also reminds you of old-world charm. The entrance leads to the main bedroom, furnished with a queen size platform bed with convenient storage drawers underneath. Facing to the north, glass French doors allow in plenty of sunlight and after a few steps up, you'll find yourself outside on the terrace. Behind the bedroom is the bathroom, with a claw foot bathtub and a large window to illuminate the space. On the other side of this room is the kitchen, which is open on either end to allow it to receive natural light. While still maintaining the traditional feel with exposed brick, an antique sink and oak cabinets, you have modern stainless steel appliances at your disposal, enabling you to cook a full meal on the days you don't feel like dining out. The south end of the apartment has the living room, which has a sitting area with a loveseat and chandelier lighting to highlight the high ceilings. Additionally there is a trundle sofa bed that can be used as two single sized beds or one queen-sized bed to accommodate larger groups. This room also features a wall-mounted flat screen television, and if you bring your computer or smartphone, wireless Internet access is available throughout to help you research all the possibilities in NYC! Please note that while the open layout of this apartment does allow light to spread nicely, it also can limit privacy when there are more guests.

Outside your door you will find Hancock Street, a residential street lined with similar brownstone and townhouse buildings, the very image that you see in countless movies and TV shows depicting Brooklyn. However, the Bedford-Stuyvesant area is not only residential, two blocks away on Tompkins Avenue you will find many small cafes, shops and restaurants; try Common Grounds, known for its excellent coffee. Also two blocks away is the Jefferson Market, convenient for grocery shopping. For dining out, everyone in the neighborhood would be sure to recommend Saraghina to you (2.5 blocks); with a wood burning oven and favoring local ingredients, their pizza is super flavorful, and the restaurant interior exudes a pleasant rustic atmosphere. There's also Therapy Wind Bar just half a block down from the pizzeria on Lewis Avenue, or if southern cuisine is more your style, check out Peaches, 2 blocks further, renowned for their fried chicken and homey brunches. If you feel like walking, venture south of Fulton Street and you will be in Crown Heights, with much more lovely architecture and the Brooklyn's Children Museum, the Botanic Garden, and the absolutely enormous Prospect Park. The B43 bus, 1.5 blocks away, will take you to northern Brooklyn, including the popular Williamsburg and Greenpoint neighborhoods that teem with boutiques, bars and in increasing array of fine dining.

Of course, you will probably want to get out of the neighborhood at some point, and fortunately you have a subway station not too far from this vacation rental accommodation. The C train is about 5 short blocks south, which can take you to Manhattan's Financial District in 8 stops. However, if you transfer to the express A train after one stop on the C, you can be there even faster in 6 stops! But after a day in the city, you won't be able to wait to come home to your calm abode in Brooklyn, New York!

Hello, for information, the owner had made a mistake in the reservation and we had the apartment on the floor above and not the one initially booked. It provided adequate comfort but we noticed the lack of maintenance of the apartment (defective wooden shutters, hole in the floor, cleaning done but not thoroughly). The owner welcomed us well and was available and helpful when needed. We had a pleasant stay, the area was nice and close to transportation.

Our stay went very well. the apartment is located in a typical Brooklyn street, it's a complete change of scenery! The subway station is close to the apartment.
To make everyday life easier, we found a supermarket a stone's throw away.
Nathalie's accommodation is very welcoming, we felt at home!
The bedding is comfortable.
It's really good value for money.
We highly recommend this vacation rental.

The main point: its excellent location, only just 10 minutes away from Kingston-Throop subway, a quiet street with the charm of beautiful Brownstones; very easily accessible -four blocks- from JFK via Howard Beach (airtrain and subway)
close to Dumbo and Lower Manhattan; you can get food supplies on the popular Fulton Street; then, the apartment itself is full of charm, double-sided, bright, has a very warm atmosphere with its fireplaces and wooden frames, and its decoration;
the judicious layout allowed not to get in one another's way: we were traveling with our teenage grandchildren who were sleeping in the sitting room on the street side, we were in the bedroom with the kitchen and the dining area in-between... ideal.
Vintage bathroom with heavy sanitary from the 40's, a lot of charm there again... even if the shower could have been a little larger; this vacation rental played an essential part in our six-night stay and helped make it unforgettable.
I nearly forgot, the bedroom looks out onto a terrace which the beautiful, cold weather unfortunately didn't allow us to enjoy!

Pros: The apartment is beautiful, very clean and comfortable for 4 people. The closest subway station is just 4 blocks away and there are grocery shops nearby.
Even though it was cold, it has good heating.
Very well equipped with kitchen utensils.
Nathalie -the landlady- was very nice.
Safe and quiet neighborhood at night.
Cons:
The building is over 100 years old and although it's beautiful, it requires some refurbishments which are not urgent for now as they don't affect the quality of the stay.
You can sometimes get the feeling that the subway station is a bit far.
The floors creak a lot and footsteps can be heard.

Dear Jose ,
It was a pleasure serving you. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback.
We are glad to hear that you had a pleasant stay. We are pleased to know that you found the apartment beautiful , clean and comfortable.
It is true that the building is old but it has classic NYC charm as mentioned in the apartment description. As it dates back to 1900, this apartment retains much of the original charm associated with brownstone buildings.
We are pleased to inform you that as described on the apartment page, the B43 bus which is 1.5 blocks away will take you to North Brooklyn as well as popular neighborhoods such as Williamsburg and Greenpoint which teem with boutiques, bars and in increasing array of fine dining. The C train is about 5 short blocks away southward (0.4 mile, 8 minutes) which is a negligible distance in NYC.
We will convey your recommendations to the owner for a more delightful stay in future.
For our company, client satisfaction is a top priority and we are committed to our clients. It is clients like you that make our job wonderful. We look forward to serving you again and making your next apartment booking experience more delightful with NEW YORK HABITAT.
Thank You!

We felt completely at ease in the apartment which is comfortable, warm and bright. For my first time in New York, I enjoyed being in a "normal" Brooklyn neighborhood, which is great by the way. Easy transportation in all directions. Thanks to Nathalie for all this.

Very tastefully furnished apartment with charm and a really friendly, helpful landlady. The apartment was very clean and tidy, and is well-equipped - ideal for a family of 4. Also very good, direct subway connection available. It's a very quiet and safe neighborhood; the building, however, is not very soundproof due to its lightweight construction. Otherwise, we really enjoyed our stay and had a good time. For our next visit to New York we'll definitely book this apartment again.

Thank you for the nice words.
The brownstone is over 100 years old which could explain the remark. However i rarely hear this complaint and everybody is very respectful as far as the noise is concerned.
Thank you
Nathalie

We spent a week in this very comfortable and charming apartment. The terrace is an undeniable asset to relax in the evening. The neighborhood is very quiet. The landlady is really thoughtful, responsive and discreet at once. We thank her for contributing to the success of this family trip with our 2 teenagers. The kitchen is extremely well equipped, we also enjoyed being able to close the shutters, which is not always the case in the United States.

We will come back with great pleasure in this apartment for a longer stay as nothing is missing!

Our stay was delightful, we could had found a better place. It's so close to everything.... We had like 5 groceries stores around, the subway was like 2 books away, location is everything and you have it.

The place it's so comfy, I didn't wanted to leave. It's warm and it has everything for a perfect stay. Since we got there, it shined because of it cleanness, organization and comfort. You have there everything you might need, there is also some spices, sugar, tomato sauce... you or old visitors left for the following ones, thanks!

It's a very quiet neighbor and house.... There are kids downstairs and we really never heard any noise or scream.

This place is a home away from home... I will definitely go back and recommend this place to all my friends!

Thanks!

We greatly appreciated the hostess' hospitality, kindness and helpfulness. The accommodation is spacious, light, tastefully decorated and central (a 5 min walk to the subway) whilst in a quiet location. It is equipped with all necessary utensils, nothing is missing (it's like being at home).

The bedding and the sheets are remarkably comfortable (which is rather rare). The big terrace is a godsend, it is a bonus as well as a selection criterion.

Great, cozy apartment: very well decorated. Not far from metro stop but this latter is a bit of a far ride to Manhattan (20min+). The neighborhood is slowly gentrifying (good wine shop around the corner) but opportunities for groceries and restaurant are limited. It's certainly an interesting time for staying in this area of town, way far as posh as Brooklyn Heights, which makes it a more accessible destination.

Apartment well refurbished that kept its antique character with several original items: brick wall, parquet, molding, inner shutters, tub and faucets: attractive apartment. Spacious and well laid out: perfect for a family with 2 children (1 double bed, 2 single beds). Comfortable bedding.

Quiet area of Brooklyn, several grocery stores open late at night. Special thanks to the owner (French) who cares a lot about the well being of her guests. Good value for the price.

It is an excellent place for a "different" stay in New York (and Brooklyn) that we will recommend to all our friends and other travelers.

You will soon feel home in this lovely early 20th century neighborhood, both quiet and spaced out. The silence was only disturbed by the jingling from ice cream trucks, and, more rarely, the fire engine sirens (We need them! Fire station with superb red engines two blocks away).

The subway (station is a 10-minute walk away) allows you to reach the center of Manhattan in 30 min, the center of Brooklyn in 10 min; it is even easier with buses that will take you very quickly to Brooklyn Bridge, among other places, or even to the airport (direct line was discontinued).

The apartment: spacious, bright, well equipped as shown in the photos (not clearly enough). You quickly feel very comfortable - probably also because of all the care and attention brought by the owners when they renovated it.

We also have mention the accommodation owner's warm and discreet welcome. She speaks French, which made quite a few things easier for us; she's also always available to give all the needed guidelines to help you settle smoothly.

So, this is an excellent place to make the most of New York and Brooklyn and to find yourself, at night, all snug in your home with your family or friends.

Greatly satisfied after 8 nights spent in this nice vacation rental, it is well appointed and very comfortable, a little off Manhattan hustle and bustle. Subway and shops nearby, very pleasant terrace.
