Mar 18 2013Everything was perfect, no noise, clean. However, there was no private parking space.
It's difficult to sleep in the bedroom on the street side because of the noise from the cars... but the hostess is great!

Thank you for your review, Myriam. It is New York City; the City that never sleeps whether Uptown or Downtown and Harlem is no exception even though it is a residential neighborhood. Historic Striver's Row is nestled between 7th and 8th Avenues, both major thoroughfares. Both are Boulevard and are rare in New York City as they both are unusually wide multi-lane arterial thoroughfares that moves traffic through one of the major cultural centers of the world, Harlem USA.
Apr 04 2013It has been compared to other well known boulevards throughout the world. I do all that I can to make my guests comfortable. However, I cannot quiet the vehicular noise on Broadway or Times Square nor Frederick Doulgass or Adam Clayton Powell Boulevards, where this famed Historic Striver's Row (circa 1891) vacation rental is located. It was a pleasure accommodating you and I'm glad you had an overall great time.
The accommodation is clean and as described. The hostess is also very nice and considerate.

Owner is really very friendly. The apt is well situated next to various subway lines, which is good. The only downside is the soundproofing, not the best, we could hear the noise from upstairs and from outside a lot. The apt is very comfortable and has all amenities.
Jul 31 2012Hostess was nice but... given the price and the location (big downsides), they could have made an effort for our check-in: the 8 beds actually consisted of 4 real beds and 4 sleeping arrangements with mattresses in the sitting room..., and on top of that we only got the right number at the end of the first day... Noisy.

I regret that the arrangements were not to his expectations; however, our sleeping arrangements are clearly listed on the front page of our NY Habitat profile. We are working to continue to make them more comfortable and are working to acquire a sleep sofa that fits into the decorated environment.
Aug 06 2012Concerning the sound, it is generally quiet as we have not had any compliants before from any clients prior to this. The only conclusion that I can come to is that it was perhaps an isolated event.
The apartment is spectacular. Very good. Location is far from the city, but there are 2 subway lines 5 blocks away and that resolves the problem. The owner was not there when we checked in but she sent her representative who was very kind and polite at all times (Thank you Bernardo!).
May 29 2012A few people told us the neighborhood was not safe but we never felt any danger and we had a very positive experience. Harlem has beautiful sights during day and night.
All in all it was a very positive experience, we were pleased and have good memories now that we're back home.

Apr 07 2012This is a duplex apartment in a residential building in Harlem, a nice, quiet residential neighborhood with all facilities close by - a 5 minute-walk to the subway station, i.e. 10 minutes away from CENTRAL PARK, by the DAKOTA building (Elton John), and 20 min away from TIMES SQUARE.

Nov 10 2011Huge apartment, decorated with style. Quiet Harlem area. Having to take the subway to go downtown NY helps mix with Americans. It's very fast with the express trains. Mass in Harlem not to be missed.
Oct 09 2011Only downside, the accommodation is poorly soundproofed with the next floor neighbors and one bedroom over the street is obviously a little more noisy even if the neighborhood and the street are very quiet, you're still in town!

Oct 11 2011Really beautiful Brownstone style apartment located in a Harlem historic neighborhood. Fairly close to subway (about 30 minutes to reach Midtown) and refined decoration. Great plus: all necessary amenities are there: wifi, dishwasher, washing machine, oven, microwave... Icing on the cake: a small courtyard where you can have breakfast out in the morning!

Jun 28 2011The vacation rental is in a good location and near the subway. The neighborhood seemed safe, we traveled at night with the subway and everything went well. Linens were very clean and in sufficient quantity. Nice little terrace.
The AC in the small bedroom was very noisy and we had to leave the window open to have it work, which added noise from the street to the one from the AC. In the end, the best is to close the window and leave the AC off.
The big bed in the large bedroom is extremely comfortable. The sweeper went a bit fast but overall everything was clean. There were 7 of us including 3 couples and we were very comfortable.
Lovely street, full of charm, with a small greengrocer's round the corner and organic products. Great warm and festive atmosphere on Saturday nights in Harlem, very different from other NYC places! Recommended!

Jun 22 2011The only setback is that the apartment is a bit far rom downtown but it isn't a problem because there are two subway lines nearby and Harlem area is quiet. I recommend this vacation rental for 4 or more people.
Photos didn't show everything. The apartment was spacious and nicely decorated with lovely pieces of art. Even though, it was guite far a way from main sites, it was very easy to travel by bus or subway.

We all very much enjoyed staying in this apartment, everything was just like on the pictures, no bad surprises, everything worked out fine, contact with the landlady was also very nice, she was very helpful. The apartment is very charming and cosy, decorated with taste, it is also very comfortable and we felt like at home.
