  The vacation rental is true to its description, nicely set up and decorated, quiet and clean. Maybe the equipment is a bit limited (frying pan, teaspoons, kettle or teapot) but nothing too bad. The only constraint is you have to add a small side table + a coffee table for the 4th person since the table will only sit 3 people (3 stools). Very warm and friendly welcome from the owner who was also considerate and accommodating. May 06 2013

  We enjoyed our stay in New York very much and partly due to our vacation rental. It is situated in the center of Harlem. Shopping facilities, bars etc are a short walk, the subway station is only 5 minutes away. The accommodation is equipped with everything you need and nicely done up.   We were 7 adults for our stay from 12/25/12 through 01/01/13. The stay was fantastic in particular thanks to this vacation rental and its host who gave us good tips on the neighborhood and the city. Actually, we'd like to thank him for his hospitality and his kindness on our arrival on Christmas day and our departure on New Year's day. The vacation rental is an excellent compromise between location and price. Its location in Harlem (a really nice neighborhood - a must-see) near a subway station (a 5-10 minute walk) is ideal, Times Squares is a 20-minute ride. It's also great to have a supermarket really close by, especially when you want to prepare breakfast made in the U.S. It's true that space is a bit tight especially when there's a lot of luggage as was the case for us, but space is costly in New York and this was in no way restrictive during our stay, the main asset for us was that there are 2 bathrooms. As for comfort, we had no problem at all sleeping, the bedding is quite nice and allows for a good rest before you set off for long days exploring New York. In short, we had a fantastic holiday season in New York and we recommend this vacation rental. Apr 04 2013

  Nice, quite big apartment (for NY) on 2 floor levels. The owner lives in basement and groundfloor and a bit eccentric but very kind and very helpful! You can walk to Central Park, for all other places you must take the subway but that's not a problem. We felt safe and comfortable in Harlem. You get rats on the streets everywhere in NY, you just have to put up with them. And there is a great deal to discover in Harlem. Nov 22 2012

  Very warm welcome from the owner. The apartment is spacious, except for the breakfast nook which is a bit small. The kitchen is very well equipped as is the apartment overall. Only the cleanliness of the linens seemed questionable... Jun 12 2012

    Thanks for the kind words, we are glad the guests enjoyed their stay! This apt is ideal for 4-6 guests with the sleeping space for more, but the as the apt is a bit tight -- it is NYC after all! :) -- the dining area is not equipped for more than 6 in the kitchen area by utilizing the high bar table and the small folding table. However there is a full dining room table that is folded neatly away in the walk through on the second level of the duplex with 6 chairs to go with it. This table can be setup upstairs and 6 guests can comfortably eat a sit down dinner. We were not aware of any linens that were dirty as all the linens and towels are cleaned after each guest, and new linens are purchased on a regular basis. We apologize if something passed our inspection, but are glad these guests still had a great time. We enjoyed having them and hope to see them again! Jun 25 2012

  - Final contact a bit complicated with the owner (we woke him up at 9.50 am and he wasn't pleased) as a result we left without seeing him again and could not get our deposit back as he wasn't there at the time of our departure.     There is a new dining room table which fits up to 6 guests. There is an additional folding table that can seat another two if necessary and the bar table in the kitchen that has 3 stool chairs. Yes, there was some weird mis-communication with the guests the night before that lead into the morning but I took care of it. I do apologize for that. There are two walk in closets in the apt, they are actually walk throughs, you walk through them to get to the bedroom, but I will try to get extra hangers, and there is a dresser in each bedroom. It was a delight to have the guest and family in our apt, we are glad everything worked out at the end! May 22 2012

  Overall we were very pleased with the apartment. It is much nicer than portrayed on the photographs. The apartment is very well furnished, combining modern and antique seemlessly. Loved it! PROS: Lots of natural light, comfortable beds, quiet, complete kitchen with all the supplies we needed (except wine glasses), free parking on the street, 2 subway lines (4 & 6 blocks away) CONS: Poor wireless connection, rooftop terrace was not available, refrigerator had food left over from last tenants Apr 18 2012

    Further to this review, we contacted the owner who informed us that there have been no further issues with the wireless Internet. He also confirmed that guests no longer have access to the rooftop terrace.   Owner of the Appartement was very helpful and friendly. I think the Appartement is to small vor 10 people. With us (6 persons) the appartement was already crowded, but still ok. To my opinion the appartement price is very high, but thats how New York Prices are I think. Apr 18 2012

  The accommodation is very well situated, in a quiet spot and a nice neighborhood. As the subway lines are close by, it is easy to go to the center of NY. The owner gives loads of information regarding the neighborhood life whilst remaining discreet. We didn't use the kitchen. Jan 08 2012

  Our stay in this apartment was pleasant and interesting. The area is quiet and close to a 'colored' area of Harlem with lots of shops, bazars and restaurants. The accommodation itself is very quiet and the rooftop is a dream. It was simply a dream a rarity with vacation rentals in this price range to let the day fade away every evening over there while comfortably seated or to have breakfast out in the open in the morning. The owner was nice and helpful and always remained discreet although he himself lives in the house. He took the trouble to give us useful tips and even left his own folder with all the important information in the apartment. We stayed in this apartment with six people, according to the description it can accommodate up to 10 people. Here I would like to say that with six people we had enough free space. For 10 people, I would not rent it. With the subway, it takes about 10 minutes to reach Times Square. It is about a 10 minute-walk to the subway and when you come back home after a long day out running, running, then it sometimes feels endless. However for us, it was not a problem at all but for older people or people who are not so used to walking, it may not be so convenient. There is a supermarket and a drugstore near the subway station where you get all essentials. For emergencies there is a small grocery store about 70 meters away where you can also find everything. The air conditioning was available and sufficient, but you still need to leave both bedroom doors open to get cool air everywhere in the apartment. All in all, we liked it very much and we can easily recommend the accommodation. For a party of six the price per person is really cheap. Sep 29 2011

  We had a wonderful weekend in this apartment. The owner was very friendly, we talked with him for a while. It is a very nice neighborhood to live in. We really enjoyed the roof terrace.   It is true the vacation rental is in Harlem off New York downtown, but it is easily accessible with public transport. Most of all it is located in a quiet neighborhood just a few blocks away from Central Park. The accommodation is unusual, very quiet, peaceful even. The decor is less impersonal than in many hotels. The neighborhood is interesting and worth discovering and the owner is discreet and very obliging. Jul 04 2011
