Looking at roommates accommodations by neighborhood, we can see that Uptown and Harlem remain the most popular locations. This is for multiple reasons:

  • There are many available rooms at good prices in Uptown - Harlem
  • There are several major universities and schools in the area
  • Apartment sizes (number of bedrooms) tend to be higher uptown

Other areas receiving high percentages of the room rental market included the Upper West and Upper East Side as well as Brooklyn. Midtown and downtown tended to be less popular because of limited availability and high prices.
