Two bedroom apartment in the Bastille area

Situated between Quai de la Râpée and the rue de Bercy. Bordering the Port de Plaisance, also called the Port de l'Arsenal, where a number of diverse types of boats are moored, this apartment is situated a few steps from the historic Place de la Bastille, the site of the new Opéra National de Paris, considered to be one of the best opera houses in the world. (The Opéra was inaugurated in 1989, on the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution.) Within a short walking distance is the royal Place des Vosges, the oldest and most beautiful square in Paris, where many historic personalities resided, including Charles VI and Victor Hugo. Built by Henri IV, its perfect symmetry and verticality are fine examples of classical French architecture. The area around the Place des Vosges is also renowned for its numerous museums, art galleries and antique stores. The latest modern art museum of Paris, la Maison Rouge, was inaugurated on the 5th of June 2004 at number 10 of the Boulevard de la Bastille. The neighborhood around the apartment has all sorts of convenience shops and other services, as well as an outdoor market on Thursday and Saturday mornings. The apartment is also within walking distance of the Picasso museum in the Marais area. A superb view over the Port de l'Arsenal (the former naval dockyard) and the Seine is one of the advantages of this 80m2 (860 sq ft) two-bedroom apartment located on the 6th floor of a 19th-century building provided with a security system, an intercom, an elevator, and a full-time caretaker. Its windows face west and east, its walls are painted , the living room has a parquet floor, the hall is tiled, and both bedrooms are carpeted. The ceilings are 2.8 meters (over 9 feet) high, and all windows are curtained. To the right side of the entry hall is the west-facing living room, to the left are the two east-facing bedrooms, and opposite are the kitchen - with a double access through the living room - the bathroom, and the separate toilet. The 38m2 (400 sq ft) living room includes a 160cm (5 1/2-foot) wide double sofa bed, a rectangular glass top coffee table, wall bookshelves on both sides of the decorative fireplace, an oval dining table with six matching chairs (six extra assorted chairs are available), a floor lamp, other bookshelves and lamps, a telephone, a TV, a DVD player and VCR, as well as a cable Internet connection, two area rugs, and two French windows looking out over the Port. Opposite are the two bedrooms, sized 13 and 12m2 (140 and 130 sq ft) respectively, each with a curtained window overlooking the courtyard and roofs toward the Gare de Lyon. The larger bedroom contains a king bed with two night tables and lamps, an antique chest of drawers, a TV resting on a small table, a telephone and a closet. The second bedroom has two 0,90cm wide single beds with two night tables, one lamp, and a closet. Well equipped, the eat-in-kitchen has a small square table and one chair (other assorted chairs are available), four electric burners and a white sink fitted on the V-shaped work counter, a microwave, a combo fridge-freezer, a dishwasher, and a washer and dryer, as well as an electric kettle, coffee maker, and toaster. There is also an Insink kitchen grinder and a garbage compactor. Spacious cupboards (containing all necessary utensils) and two skylights complete the kitchen. The bathroom is painted white with dark gray tiles, and has a bathtub with detachable showerhead (protected by a screen), and double white washbasins beneath a wide mirror. Below the sinks is a cabinet with drawers and shelves, and towels are provided in the closet. The toilet is separate. A baby bed is available if requested in advance. A parking place is available (additional fee). The closest metro stations are Quai de la Râpée (line 5), and Bastille (lines 1, 5, 8).
