Studio apartment in Marais area
|
Neighborhood:
Located between Rue Saint-Antoine and Rue de la Bastille, this furnished alcove studio is next to the royal Place des Vosges, famous and hailed for the harmony of its architecture. It is also where the French novelist Victor Hugo lived from 1832 to 1848 (at number 6); it is still possible to visit his apartment and the room where he wrote his novels (especially Les Misérables). Built under Henry IV, the singular Place des Vosges was first called Place Royale, as it was the heart of an aristocratic district of Paris where the rebellious nobles flouted Richelieu's ban for duel fights. It is part of the special atmosphere in the lively and historical Marais with its substantial number of points of interest such as museums, art galleries, design shops, and diverse, trendy bars and restaurants. In walking distance of this accommodation are the Seine with its two delectable islands -- Ile de la Cite and Ile Saint Louis -- and the Hotel de Ville (city hall).
In the neighborhood are a number of traditional restaurants, cafes, and open-air markets such as the one on Place d'Aligre, and a second on Rue Richard Lenoir. All other services are easily found in the neighborhood. There are numerous cinemas in the area.
Just steps away is the Rue de la Roquette, mostly frequented by young people. The heart of this area is the historic Place de la Bastille, symbol of the French Republic. Built during the 14th century as a fortified royal residence, it is the most famous monument in Paris. The new Opéra House is nearby and considered one of the best operas in the world; it was inaugurated at the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution.
Premises:
This 16m˛ (approx. 170 sq. ft.) studio apartment with mezzanine is located on the second floor of a 19th century walk-up building. The entrance gate, protected by a coded security system, opens into a hall with a second gate that has an intercom. This leads to a courtyard with the staircase.
The apartment entrance opens directly into the living room and the open kitchen; there is also a mezzanine and a separate bathroom.
The 12m˛ (approx. 125 sq. ft.) living room has two windows with southern exposure overlooking a courtyard. It is furnished with a double-size sofa bed, a coffee table, a chest of drawers with a stereo, a wall-mounted flat screen cable TV, a DVD player, a phone restricted to reception calls and some built-in closets.
A ladder leads to the mezzanine, which is furnished with a double-size bed on the floor.
The open kitchen is separated from the living room by a bar and two modern-style stools. This room is equipped with two vitro ceramic plates, a small refrigerator, a microwave, a coffee maker and a kettle.
The separate bathroom has a shower topped by a showerhead, a washbasin, a towel dryer and a toilette.
Heat and hot water are electric.
For convenient travel around Paris, the nearest metro station is Bastille (lines 1,5,8).
