Aix-en-Provence is a historic town in the Provence region of the South of France founded by the Romans over 2000 years ago. The cities name Aix came from the thermal spring which passes through the town and is one of the city's top attritions. The Mazarin district was designed in the seventeenth century by the Archbishop Mazarin, brother of the Cardinal. Truly a “district of luxury” for parliamentarians and leading citizens of the time, it is organized around two main axes: rue Cardinale and Rue du 4 Septembre. Here you will find small shops and cafes as well as some of Aix-en-Provence's most exclusive homes.
