The Camargue, South of France<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

On this occasion, gypsies come from all over the world to worship their Saint, Sara the Black. They settle all over the place for over a week so that they have the time to get together and have their children baptized in the Church of the Saints in the capital of Camarque, Saintes Maries de la Mer<\/strong>. In this church, the shrine of Saint Sara is taken down on May 24, when the gypsies carry Sara\u2019s statue to the sea to symbolize her waiting and the welcoming of the Saint Maries from the sea. Later, everybody goes back to the church in a joyful procession. Sara\u2019s statue, clad in a multicolored dress and jewelry, is then placed back in the crypt of the church, to the right of the altar.<\/p>\n
