You can see the unique Agoudas Hakehilos synagogue designed by Hector Guimard at 10 rue Pavee, just off of\u00a0 des Rosiers, which used to be the one of the main Jewish streets in Paris. While many of the traditional shops have been taken over by designer boutiques, there are still some shops selling Jewish specialties. You can pick up some tasty pastries at the various Jewish bakeries or grab a falafel at the famous l\u2019As du Falafel (34 rue des Rosiers), home to the best falafel in the world!<\/p>\n<p>Further down the street is Chez Marianne (2, Rue des Hospitali\u00e8res-Saint-Gervais, on the corner at rue des Rosiers), a better option for a sit down meal. Here, patrons can make their own tasting menu of Eastern Mediterranean delicacies such as hummus, grilled eggplant and vine-leaf dolmas. The kitsch art adds to the charm of this restaurant.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Gay Village &#8211; Rue des Archives\/Rue de Temple<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The fact that the Marais has become a trendy area with cool boutiques does have something to do with the rise in its gay population. Today, the gay community is mostly concentrated in and around rue de Temple and rue des Archives. In the Marais you won\u2019t find many big chain shops, rather you\u2019ll find the latest cool designers. Check out the streets around the Haut Marais\/Upper Marais (rue de Bretagne\/Charlot\/Vielle de Temple) to see what\u2019s really going on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Mati\u00e8res \u00e0 R\u00e9flexion &#8211; 19 Rue du Poitou 75003<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A fun stop is Mati\u00e8res \u00e0 R\u00e9flexion where you&#8217;ll find fashion and accessories made from recycled clothes<br \/>\nand other material.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Emilie Casiez &#8211; 57 rue Charlot<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At Emilie Casiez, you&#8217;ll find colorful pop art-inspired creations by a Franco-Japanese designer.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Eple &amp; Melk &#8211; 45 rue Charlot<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Head to Eple &amp; Melk for French designs with Nordic leanings. Here you\u2019ll find cool clothes and jewelry.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Vintage Shops<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A few years ago, vintage,\u00a0 came back in style in Paris, and it\u2019s not surprising that the stylish Marais became the hot spot for the city\u2019s best vintage\u00a0 &#8211; or in French &#8211; Frip. Here are a few to get you started:<\/p>\n<p><strong>King of Frip<\/strong> at 33 Rue du Roi de Sicile,<br \/>\n<strong>Frip&#8217;irium<\/strong> at 2 rue de la Verrerie,<br \/>\n<strong>And Freep\u2019Star<\/strong> at 8 Rue Sainte Croix de la Bretonnerie.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>BHV<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Heading down the rue de Rivoli, you&#8217;ll come to the &#8220;Bazar de l&#8217;H\u00f4tel de Ville&#8221;, or &#8220;BHV&#8221; as the Parisians call it.\u00a0 This massive shopping center sells just about everything.<\/p>\n<p><strong><div class=\"img alignright size-full wp-image-11365\" style='width:250px;'>\n\t<img src=\"https:\/\/www.nyhabitat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/marais-street-paris.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of a street in Le Marais, Paris\" width=\"250\" height=\"388\" \/>\n\t<div>A street in Le Marais, Paris<\/div>\n<\/div>Food, Restaurant and Nightlife<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you are staying in an apartment in the Marais you can pick up some delicious French specialties.\u00a0 Rue Saint Antoine has fruit and vegetable vendors, wine cellars and great bakeries. You\u2019ll find similar shops on rue Rambuteau, near the Pompidou Center. In the Upper Marais check out the international samplings at the March\u00e9 des Enfants Rouges, the oldest Market in Paris.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rue du Tr\u00e9sor<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As you explore all the small streets, you&#8217;ll eventually come to rue du Tr\u00e9sor. This is a charming passageway lined with caf\u00e9s and small boutiques.<\/p>\n<p>The Marais has a great array of dining options, from the take-away falafel sandwiches mentioned above to the great bistros:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Tartes Kluger<\/strong> &#8211; 6 Rue du Forez<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tartes Kluger, an inventive savory and sweet tart restaurant is perfect for a light, but tasty lunch on the go.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>L\u2019Ambassade d\u2019Auvergne <\/strong>-22 rue du Grenier St Lazare<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you\u2019re looking for delicious French, head to L\u2019Ambassade d\u2019Auvergne, where you\u2019ll sample excellent food from the volcanic Auvergne region.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Breizh Caf\u00e9 <\/strong>&#8211; 109 rue Vieille du Temple<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Breizh Caf\u00e9 is one of the best creperies in town \u2013 you may find some unusual ingredients in your galette as well.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Caf\u00e9 des Philosophes<\/strong> &#8211; 28 rue Vieille de Temple<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>One of my favorites, this cafe is great for either people watching during the afternoon or settling down for a delicious meal in the evening.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Victoire Supreme de Coeur<\/strong> &#8211; 27-31 rue du Bourg Tibourg<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For vegetarians staying in the Marais you\u2019ll find creative dishes, salads, quiches, and other surprises at this tasty spot.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nightlife<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Marais is also bustling in the evenings. The lower half of rue Vielle de Temple has several lively cafes and bars including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Le Pick-Clops<\/strong> (16 rue Vielle de Temple) \u2013 a great place for apero with their free popcorn, they also have some nice light meal options.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Caf\u00e9 du Tresor <\/strong>(5-7 Rue du Tr\u00e9sor 75004) \u2013 for a modern and cool ambiance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Lizard Lounge<\/strong> (18 rue du Bourg Tibourg) \u2013 head down into the basement to hang with a fun international crowd. Happy hour until 10 pm and fun dance tunes until late.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>La Perle<\/strong> (78 rue Vielle de Temple) \u2013 La Perle is a must for anyone who wants to \u2018blend in\u2019 with young artsy Parisians.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Well, I hope you\u2019ve gotten some ideas from this stretch of our tour of the Marais.
