New York Habitat has been showcasing some of the lesser-known museums in Paris.\u00a0 Despite their lack of popularity, when compared to the Louvre or the D\u2019Orsay, these museums are still great places to visit and will really make your next trip to Paris<\/a> much more exciting.\u00a0 This week, for our #1 hidden gem museum<\/strong>, we have 5 great attractions, all located in one small area of Paris.<\/p>\n

Le Mus\u00e9um National d\u2019Histoire Naturelle<\/strong>, housed in the Jardin des Plantes in the 5th arrondissement<\/a>, is really 5 musuems in one!<\/strong> In this one area you\u2019ll find: le Jardin des Plantes, le M\u00e9nagerie, la Grande Galerie d\u2019Evolution, les Galeries de Pal\u00e9ontologie et\u00a0 Anatomie Compar\u00e9e, and les Galeries de Min\u00e9ralogie et G\u00e9ologie<\/strong>.\u00a0 Le Jardin des Plantes was built under Louis XIII and was originally used to grow medicinal plants but has since become a botany museum, displaying all types of herbs, plants, and trees, both native and non-native to France.\u00a0 There is also a rose garden containing hundreds of species of the beautiful flower.\u00a0 Le M\u00e9nagerie is a small zoo that was put in place in le Jardin shortly after the French Revolution, and houses mainly small animals and birds.\u00a0 La Grande Galerie d\u2019Evolution is a magnificent display of taxonomy and evolutionary science, housed in a beautiful building on the north end of le Jardin des Plantes.\u00a0 It is also participating in a year-long celebration of Charles Darwin\u2019s 200th birthday, which will include special exhibits, tours, and talks.\u00a0 Les Galeries de Pal\u00e9ontologie et Anatomie Compar\u00e9e contain thousands upon thousands of skeletons, including those of dinosaurs and some rare medical oddities as well.\u00a0 Finally les Galeries de Min\u00e9ralogie et G\u00e9ologie\u00a0is home to stones, gems, and other precious minerals.\u00a0 Due to the limited area of le Jardin des Plantes, each attraction is limited in scope but still fascinating to see.\u00a0 You can visit just one or all five in a single trip!<\/p>\n
