New York is made up of 5 boroughs, Manhattan, Brooklyn<\/a>, Queens<\/a>, The Bronx<\/a> and Staten Island<\/a>.<\/p>\n

All of the boroughs are connected by subway with the exception of Staten Island.<\/p>\n

To make up for the lack of subway service, the city has run the Staten Island Ferry for its residents since 1898 \u2013 \u00a0though ferry service dates back to the 1700s. Since 1997, there has been no charge for the ride. Therefore, when you come to New York a budget-friendly sightseeing trip is to take a ride on the Staten Island ferry.<\/p>\n

New York Habitat offers a variety of short and long term furnished accommodations\u00a0in the\u00a0Financial District<\/a><\/strong> within walking distance of the ferry and there are easy subway connections to the R,M,1,4,5 trains at downtown stations.<\/p>\n

Taking a ride on the ferry gives a spectacular view of New York Harbor<\/strong>. From the boat you can see the George Washington, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Verrazzano-Narrows Bridges, the Statue of Liberty, New Jersey, Brooklyn and the open Atlantic Ocean. The ride takes about 25 minutes each way, but consider getting off the boat in Saint George and spending the afternoon exploring Staten Island. On Staten Island there are many parks to explore including Gateway National Recreation Area as well as small neighborhoods like St. George and Tottenville, which offer a glimpse of real New York life.\u00a0 If you are in the mood for a baseball game consider stopping by the Staten Island FerryHawks\u2019 ballpark which is just a short walk from the ferry terminal and much less expensive than the major league stadium\u00a0in the Bronx.<\/p>\n

For the return trip to Manhattan choose a time when the sun is setting and enjoy the vibrant oranges and reds as the sun sets over the Statue of Liberty and the harbor.<\/p>\n
