Since 1997, there has been no charge for the ride. Therefore, when you come to New York a budget-friendly sightseeing trip is to take a ride on the Staten Island ferry.<\/p>\n<p>New York Habitat offers a variety of <strong>short and long term furnished <a title=\"Vacation Rentals in the Financial District, NY\" href=\"\/new-york-apartment\/vacation\/manhattan\/financial-district\">accommodations\u00a0in the\u00a0Financial District<\/a><\/strong> within walking distance of the ferry and there are easy subway connections to the R,M,1,4,5 trains at downtown stations.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Taking a ride on the ferry gives a <strong>spectacular view of New York Harbor<\/strong>. From the boat you can see the George Washington, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Verrazzano-Narrows Bridges, the Statue of Liberty, New Jersey, Brooklyn and the open Atlantic Ocean. The ride takes about 25 minutes each way, but consider getting off the boat in Saint George and spending the afternoon exploring Staten Island.
