There is always an event to attend and there is something that each person will enjoy. Whether you are traveling alone or with a group there are plenty of options to stay busy and explore all that New York has to offer. Here are some of the major events happening this summer in <a title=\"Events in New York \" href=\"\/blog\/category\/new-york\/\">New York<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Belmont Stakes:<\/strong> June 5 (Elmont, NY)<br \/>\nEnjoy the final leg of the Triple Crown horse races at Belmont Park through mid-July. The Belmont Stakes horse races are a New York Tradition, come dress up and enjoy the beautiful Summer weather.<\/p>\n<p><strong>American Ballet Theatre Season at the Met:<\/strong> May 17 &#8211; July 10<br \/>\nAmerican Ballet Theatre Season is an annual event in New York that brings over 600,000 guests who come to watch the shows performed by one of the top dance companies in the world. This year hosts the 70th anniversary of the American Ballet Theatre, which is currently under the direction of Kevin McKenzie, a former dancer.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>World Science Festival:<\/strong> June2 &#8211; 6 (New York University)<br \/>\nThe World Science Festival is an annual event that takes place in the areas of\u00a0<a title=\"Travel Guide to Greenwich Village and West Village\" href=\"\/blog\/category\/new-york\/new-york-travel-guide\/new-york-neighborhoods\/greenwich-village\/\">Greenwich Village and\u00a0West Village<\/a>. It lasts five days and has over forty events. The World Science Festival events range from an opening gala performance honoring renowned physicist Stephen hawking to an event led by experts on global hunger.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Museum Mile Festival:<\/strong> June 8, 6 &#8211; 9pm<br \/>\nEach year nine museums along 5th avenue open their doors to the public for the Museum Mile Festival. This free event spans a mile of New York City streets from 82nd to 105th . Along with free admission to nine museums this traffic free event hosts a visual arts celebration in the streets.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shakespeare in the Park:<\/strong> June 9 &#8211; August 1 (Central Park)<br \/>\nEach year at the Delacorte theatre in Central Park, playgoers can sit on the lawn and watch one of Shakespeare\u2019s plays for free. This summer the two plays being performed are The Winter\u2019s Tale, and The Merchant of Venice, they will be performed in repertory for eight weeks during this event.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211;<\/strong>This <a title=\"New York Vacation Rental: Studio Vacation Rental in Upper West Side (NY-12377)\" href=\"\/new-york-apartment\/vacation\/12377\">studio apartment in the Upper West Side (NY-12377)<\/a> is within walking distance of Central Park and<\/p>\n<p><strong><!--more-->National Puerto Rican Day Parade:<\/strong> June 13<br \/>\nThe 53rd annual Puerto Rican Day Parade will March along 5th Avenue and should have over 80,000 marching this year. It is one of the largest parades annually in New York with over 3 million viewers. The televised event is host to delegates from Puerto Rico as well as many participants from throughout the United States.<\/p>\n<p><strong>HBO Bryant Park Film Festival:<\/strong> Mondays from June 21\u00a0to August 23,<br \/>\nEach Monday night, Bryant Park in New York hosts a film presented by HBO movie network. The River to River Festival is currently in its 8th year and is New York\u2019s largest free summer arts festival.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Central Park Summer Stage 2010:<\/strong> June &#8211; September<br \/>\nEach year the City Parks Foundation of New York presents the Central Park Summer stage. The Central Park Summer Stage is a series of free concerts offered throughout the season. Composer Son Lux and Lottdance will open the show for Celebrate <a title=\"Travel Guide to Brooklyn\" href=\"\/blog\/category\/new-york\/new-york-travel-guide\/brooklyn\/\">Brooklyn<\/a> in New York on July 1st. The Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center in New York\u00a0 is an event that attracts both the savvy concert attendee as well as those who would like to attend a more casual performance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New York International Fringe Festival:<\/strong> August 13 &#8211; 29<br \/>\nThe New York International Fringe Festival is multi-arts festival where you can enjoy shows by over 200 performance companies. The Fringe festival hosts over 1200 performances each year in New York by performers from all over the world. This two-week long event is the largest multi-arts festival in North America.<\/p>\n<p><strong>US Open Tennis:<\/strong> August 30 &#8211; September 12 (USTA National Tennis Center)<br \/>\nThe United States Open Tennis Championships hosts 5 event championships in its main tournament each year in <a title=\"Apartments for rent in Queens\" href=\"\/new-york-apartment\/furnished\/queens\">Queens, a lovely borough offering convenient and comfortable accommodations<\/a>. New York is the theme used to choose which films are presented at the Central Park Film Festival. Enjoying a movie during this festival is a great way to experience all Central Park has to offer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Harlem Week:<\/strong> July 15 &#8211; October 16<br \/>\nThis summer, Harlem Week is celebrating its 35th anniversary. This event began in 1974 as <a title=\"Travel Guide to Harlem, NY\" href=\"\/blog\/category\/new-york\/new-york-travel-guide\/new-york-neighborhoods\/harlem\/\">Harlem<\/a> Day and was a celebration of the growing urban community. With more and more to see and celebrate it has now become Harlem Week. A series of events to encourage New Yorkers and visitors to see all that Harlem has to offer.
