Bordered to the north by the presidential Palais de l’Elysée and to the south by Grand Palais and Petit Palais, the Champs-Elysées is also where one of the most expensive streets of Paris, l’Avenue Montaigne, begins.

Palais de l’Elysées and Theaters

Many come to Paris for its various forms of entertainment. If Parisians are good at this, it’s because they started this tradition with the building of several operas & theaters early in the 19th century, especially with the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées (15 Avenue Montaigne) and the Théâtre du Rond-Point (2 Bis Avenue Franklin Delano Roosevelt). Close to these mythical theaters is the Palais de l’Elysée (55 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré), official residence of the President of France and the first lady. If you get close enough to the Palace, don’t miss the rooster on the front door, an old symbol Napoleon tried to change to an eagle, without success!

Arc de Triomphe in Paris

L’Arc de Triomphe

On top of l’Arc de Triomphe, which is about 50 meters tall, is one of the best views of the Champs-Elysées. Commissioned by Napoleon in 1806 but not finished until 1836, this triumphal arch is one of Paris’ best-known monuments. It’s also right in the center of one of the city’s busiest traffic circles, l’Etoile so if you decide to drive through it, it is at your own risk!

Accommodations in the 8th arrondissement, near the Champs-Elysées

The best way to experience Paris is to skip the hotel room and stay in a Paris apartment.
