Saint Remy de Provence, France<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

You may not have been to\u00a0Saint R\u00e9my de Provence<\/strong> before; it doesn\u2019t have the world-wide recognition of Avignon<\/a>, Aix-en-Provence<\/a>, or other well known provincial cities and towns.\u00a0 But thanks to two famous men who once called it home, Nostradamus and Van Gogh<\/strong>, many have been visiting this quaint little town and finding it to be just as enjoyable as the larger cities in the area.\u00a0 A vacation rental in Saint R\u00e9my de Provence<\/a><\/strong> is a great way to experience Saint R\u00e9my and find your own inspiration.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Michel de Nostradame<\/strong>, or as we know him, Nostradamus, was born in the sixteenth century in Saint R\u00e9my de Provence, and his childhood home still exists<\/strong>.\u00a0 Though he traveled throughout France and Italy to study and work, most notably for Catherine de Medici, Saint R\u00e9my still holds Nostradamus as a native son and honors to him and his life can be seen throughout the town, such as a fountain made from a bust of him in the historic center.<\/p>\n

Vincent Van Gogh<\/strong> is another famous man that Saint R\u00e9my holds dear.\u00a0 For the last year of his life, Van Gogh committed himself to the asylum and former monastery Saint Paul de Mausole<\/strong>, which still serves as a psychiatric hospital to this day, though small tours are permitted.\u00a0 It was here that Van Gogh painted some of his most famous works, such as The Starry Night and Bedroom in Arles<\/a>.<\/strong> To see some of Van Gogh\u2019s work, go to the Mus\u00e9e Estrine<\/strong>, which organizes a themed exhibit of some of the artists\u2019 paintings each year. It is one of the popular \u00a0 The tourism office has also organizes tours of Van Gogh\u2019s time in Saint R\u00e9my which includes many of the landscapes that inspired him and in some places, the exact spot where a painting was completed is marked.<\/p>\n
