Oberkampf is still like a little village inside the big city of Paris; it is located in the <a title=\"Travel tips about Bastille and Republique, Paris\" href=\"\/blog\/category\/paris\/paris-travel-guide\/paris-neighborhoods\/bastille-republique\/\">11th arrondissement of Paris<\/a>, specifically on the right bank and in the East side of Paris above the Op\u00e9ra Bastille. It extends from the covered Canal Saint Martin to the famous Belleville village. King Louis XVI declared his company a \u201cManufacture Royale\u201d in 1783, and gave Oberkampf the nobility title \u201c\u00e9cuyer\u201d, or esquire, and today he has a metro station and a street named after him. Very &#8220;royale&#8221; indeed!<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Lower East Side of Paris:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;ve watched our video tour of the <a title=\"Lower East Side Video Tour\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=QHA_hz0tqBU\">Lower East Side in New York City<\/a>, you will see a similarity in Oberkampf. With its trendy cafes and restaurants, its Arab pastries and its colorful markets &#8211; you won&#8217;t soon forget this hip village.<\/p>\n<p>Constantly showing up in movies, from Bollywood to Hollywood, there is definitely a sense of magic in Oberkampf!<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Winter Circus:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Le Cirque d\u2019Hiver \u2013 or The Winter Circus \u2013 was built in 1852. In the past, it was used from November to April when the \u00a0circus on the famous\u00a0<a title=\"Travel tips about Champs Elysees and Gare St Lazare, Paris\" href=\"\/blog\/category\/paris\/paris-travel-guide\/paris-neighborhoods\/champs-elysees\/\">Champs Elys\u00e9es<\/a> was closed. Today, you can enjoy circuses and other shows all year round here. Stop and have a look at its well-preserved colors and the sculpted Amazone of Pradier above the main entrance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Walk on Water on Boulevard Richard Lenoir:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On Boulevard Richard Lenoir, you will find 17,700 square meters of gardens made of willow trees &amp; firns, which are the evidence that you are in fact walking on the filled-in part of the Canal Saint-Martin, which once flowed all the way from the northeast side of Paris to the Seine.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Edith Piaf Museum<\/strong> (5 Rue Crespin du Gast):<\/p>\n<p>The super famous singer who everyone can sing at least one song from \u201cPanam, panam, panam\u201d to \u201cLa vie en rose\u201d has her own museum in Oberkampf. Visiting the Edith Piaf Museum is a good way to get a taste of old Paris, in the time of caf\u00e9s &amp; cabarets filled with cigarette smoke.<\/p>\n<p><strong>P\u00e8re Lachaise Cemetery:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You won\u2019t regret climbing up the hill to P\u00e8re Lachaise cemetery, which is Paris\u2019 largest cemetary.
