Description
1 Bedroom Apartment Rental in Crown Heights (NY-16055)
1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom - Sleeps 3

This 900 SQF (about 83 SQM) ground floor fully furnished lofty one bedroom apartment is in a NYC brick house in Crown Heights; it features your own private entrance, complete with plenty of room for lounging (10' or 3m couch) and dining (6 person dinign table).

You will stay in a 1906 brick house in a one bedroom apartment that has been fully renovated with a nice mix of functional/modern design (Eames living room), antique charm (claw feet tub and 30's wallpaper) and industrial era (stainless steel kitchen and cement stained floors throughout). It features exposed beams, lots of closet space and a full kitchen with bar island for aperitifs with your friends. Please note: This apartment is on the ground floor and may be noisy from the floors above.

On a calm, tree-lined residential street in an authentic NYC neighborhood (Crown Heights), the accommodation is centrally located, only 2 blocks (about 600m) from the Botanic Garden, Brooklyn Museum and Prospect Park. An ideal place to visit NY and enjoy both Manhattan and Brooklyn's vibrant cultural scene and events (BAM: Brooklyn Academy of Music, Prospect Park Celebrate Brooklyn Stage, Fort Greene Park, Mark Morris Theater, Harvey Theater, Barclays Center Stadium etc.). While we are sure you will already have a thousand events, shows and restaurants planned, notice that you may also find all that nearby this furnished vacation rental. With a 24-hour deli, supermarket and also an organic store open up to midnight, you might be planning to stay in for once!

Transportation is easy in NYC and convenient as it's only a short walk to Franklin Avenue / Eastern Parkway station (.4mi/650m) from the house to the 2, 3 (for visiting Manhattan's west side) and 4, 5 trains (to reach Manhattan's east side), and a quick 6 stops to Downtown Brooklyn. Also consider NYC buses as a tranportation alternative.

The owner was very nice and accommodating to our needs, and communications were easy to facilitate. We loved the Crown Heights neighborhood.

This is a basement apartment with not much natural light that comes in through small windows. But there was plenty of lighting within the apartment to brighten the home, and the apartment's quirky furniture was comfortable and welcoming. Lighting upon entry could be improved, as one is otherwise left to scramble in the dark for light switches on the floor lamps. The kitchen was more or less fully equipped, but the antique oven was difficult to figure out how to use, so we didn't use it (stove burners were fine).

The main discomfort with the sublet was the absence of insulation between the apartment ceiling and the floorboards of the apartment above. In fact, the ceiling WAS the above apartment's floor -- you could see through the cracks in some areas. This meant that every single step above felt like the ceiling could crumble, and any talking could be heard as if it was coming from the same room (voices were not muffled; conversations could literally be heard word for word, which probably meant that the above neighbors could hear us as well). The only insulation existed in the bedroom, which helped at night, and thankfully the above neighbors held normal adult hours.

This apartment could be greatly improved for short term sublets and visitors to NYC by: 1) insulating the ceiling, and 2) making the entryway lighting accessible.

Great apartment, great host, great location. Probably not great if you want to go into Manhattan every day (one hour each way door to door). Crown Heights and Brooklyn more widely full of things to do, places to eat, etc. and, thankfully, full of real people.
