Description
1 Bedroom Vacation Rental in Park Slope (NY-15137)
1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom - Sleeps 3

This one bedroom vacation rental is found in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, very close to Manhattan, on 12th Street between 4th and 5th Avenues. You will be situated on the garden level of a lovely 4-story (equivalent to the European 3-story), 1870's Victorian home on a charming residential street near the Brooklyn landmark, Prospect Park. You have a door to a lovely shared garden with a BBQ -- an undeniable advantage (just picture yourself relaxing in this green haven!)-and the peaceful surroundings will allow you to enjoy a surprisingly calm stay in a city as active as New York.

Being at garden level is convenient since you simply descend 2 stairs to enter. The apartment is styled with handpicked vintage and contemporary décor, with colorful pieces of furniture and artwork. The bedroom has a king size bed, and in the adjoining living room there is a double size futon with a memory foam top mattress. A curtain can separate the sleeping area from the entrance to the bathroom to provide privacy, however this rental works best for people that are comfortable together. A Pack-n-Play crib, air mattress, toys and books are available. There is a separate eat-in kitchen, equipped with cooking appliances as well as an expandable dining table. This room leads directly to the garden, which is perfect for enjoying meals outside when the weather is nice. The apartment and house are frequently inspected and protected against bed bugs.

There is the convenience of a washer and dryer in the apartment, which is used by your host/the housekeeper during the week. Please also note that the decor is a vintage style in an unrenovated, older home. Please consider when choosing to stay at this apartment that this may not suit some guests' tastes.

Your host lives in the upstairs triplex and is happy to provide tips and recommendations on the many activities and restaurants in the area; additionally there are delicious breakfast foods. For families with teenaged kids, she can offer deep discount coupons to some museums, theater and dance.

The neighborhood of Park Slope is residential with a vibrant cultural and restaurant scene stretching about 30 blocks. Fifth Avenue has excellent restaurants, bakeries, bars, coffee shops, and dozens of vintage clothing and antique shops, as well as inexpensive shopping. Several outstanding music clubs including world-renown Club Barbes, and the Bell House, are walking distance. The NY Marathon passes by each November. A lively Children’s Halloween Costume Parade occurs October 31st. The first Monday in September is the Caribbean Day “Carnival” which draws tens of thousands of visitors for the gorgeous costumes, dancers, and musicians.

The treasured Prospect Park (4 blocks) offers dozens of free concerts, family and cultural activities and sporting events. It includes the Zoo, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and the Brooklyn Museum - the second largest art museum in NYC! The Museum throws open its doors for music, art and a dance party the First Saturday of each month. You can catch a movie at the local cinema or for some interesting local history, head to the Old Stone House, a museum which features a replica of an ancient farm dating back to Dutch settlers and covers the Battle of Brooklyn during the American Revolution. Also nearby is the beautiful Brooklyn Academy of Music, one of the foremost centers for dance, drama, and music, in all of NY.

This vacation rental is about 2 blocks from the subway at 4 Avenue/ 9 St. It is exceptionally well located to every subway in NY. The lines (F, R, G) go to Coney Island amusement park and beaches, Brooklyn Heights, Williamsburg, the Lower East Side. Lower Manhattan can be as few as 3 stops away (15 minutes). It is also close to the YMCA and neighborhood sports facilities.

Very nicely welcomed, fridge was filled with ingredients for breakfast. Access to garden/terrace was very pleasant during sunny days. Comfortable bedding. Close to subway station.

Basement apartment, poorly furnished but with comfortable beds and equiped kitchen. Not great room layout, with laundry (shared with entire house), in middle room, a bedroom.

Thank you Bob for your feedback. Please know that there is no attempt to mislead guests and the apartment is exactly as seen in the photos taken by NY Habitat. It is an historic 150 year old house in the very desirable neighborhood of Park Slope, very close to 3 subway lines. The location is exactly as indicated, so that should not have been a disappointment. The apartment was professionally cleaned and spotless when you arrived. There are a few older pieces of furniture, some of which are a matter of taste, not comfort or functionality, some of which were chosen because the size fit well in the space. The fact that laundry is in the apartment and is shared, is indicated in the description. The beds are supremely comfortable and praised by all. Regarding the apartment layout, we can clearly see that there is one large bedroom for couples, but also a futon sofa in the living room. Best, Laurie
