Alcove Studio Apartment in Nation, Belleville - Père Lachaise (PA-3824)
Alcove Studio, 1 Bathroom - Sleeps

In the last municipal district of Paris, the 20th arrondissement and nearby Belleville hosts the neighborhood of Nation. On the Rue d'Avron between Rue de Buzenval and Rue de la Réunion you will find this alcove studio apartment. On floor 2 of 3 (3 of 4 for Americans) of a 19th century avant-guerre building, this apartment has a courtyard view with a washer and dryer combo in-unit and a coded entrance.

This Paris alcove studio apartment has eclectic furnishings to style the living room with 2 windows. There is also a cable TV, dining table, and single sized sofa bed for extra sleeping room. Separation is given by hanging curtains when you not using the open kitchen equipped with an oven, fridge/freezer, microwave, and toaster. Down the slight hallway, you will come across your bathroom designed with floor to ceiling blue tiles. Lastly, the sleeping area (living room 2) has a window for sunlight and a single sized bed with sheets.

In a mix of influences with subdued beauty, Nation has a growing bohemian vibe and a range of culinary options. For the right ambiance in a metro hub, Chez Prosper (650m/0.4mi) offers hearty dishes. Give La Petite Fabrique (500m/0.3mi) a try for a cozy restaurant with organic products. The Green Goose (950m/0.6mi) is a change from the typical Parisian cafes as an Irish gastropub. Make your own meals with ingredients found at Simply Market on the corner of Rue de Buzenval and Rue d’Avron. A cemetery that makes the Paris attractions list is simply something to see, Pére Lachaise Cemetery (1.5km/0.9mi) holds countless famous figures and a summit to look down on the lavishly built crypts.

Continue to see the Paris by day and night! Transport yourself by the Metro at Buzenval (130m/420ft.) for the 9 train and Nation (800m/0.5mi) for access to the commuter train RER A, and 1, 2, 6, and 9 trains on the subway.

We had a wonderful visit to Paris staying in this apartment. It was noisy due to construction and a busy courtyard, but the apartment is cute (cuter than the pictures) and comfortable. HOWEVER, only rent this apartment if you are patient and speak more than a little French.

Coordinating with the landlady was very difficult, both due to a language barrier and her poor communications. It took 3 months of confusing, terse emails to figure out how to pay for the apartment, though in spite of long correspondence, many necessary steps were not mentioned until the last minute.

Expectations of cleanliness and apartment care were not explained- she arrived on the last day and asked why we hadn't ironed the sheets (including ones we didn't use). She did make an effort to share websites and things to help us get around Paris.

Generally, we had a terrific time, and would highly recommend the location!

Hi Ruth and thanks for your kind email. I'll take this opportunity to tell you that I emailed you to your private address shortly after your departure, there was also a problem with the blind, but I don't know if you received my email or not. Thank you for recommending the apartment and sorry about the misunderstandings.

You know, I regularly work for France National Geographic, in particular to proofread translations, but on one hand you started emailing me in French from your third email onwards, and since I've often had renters who like to practice their French with me, I thought it was the case for you. That being said, I must admit that when I'm exhausted, speaking can be difficult for me at times, especially since - unfortunately - I am shy. Also, to do you a favor, I agreed to do the checkout quite late (10pm I think) after a very difficult day - and week - and I was exhausted.

And surprised that the cleaning hadn't been done and that the suitcases were on the sheets that were supposed to be clean. But had you told me that you'd rather speak English, I would have been happy to do so, and we could have double checked in French that we understood each other, to be on the safe side. Sorry it made you uncomfortable.

Regarding the cleaning, we'd discussed it by email as soon as April, and besides, we discussed it further a few days before, still by email. Since I was sure it had been done, I wasn't expecting having to find a cleaning lady at all, which wasn't an easy task actually. I'll be more careful next time, thank you for bringing this up. It may indeed not have been as clean as usual because I hadn't had the time to clean really thoroughly, I mean to even wash the walls as I usually do between two renters (or at least once a year) and as I have done since then actually.

As regards the noise, I am sorry, I wasn't even aware that the works were starting at that moment. I found that out the day you arrived. Of course, it's not my fault but I like my renters to be happy so I am really sorry about that. As for the payment, I don't understand your remark either because I provided the information you needed quite quickly for the wire, but you told me yourself when you arrived that the friend who dealt with it had written my name incorrectly.

Regardless, I trusted you and let you pay upon arrival, which is unusual, of course. I'm sorry about all this, but I was happy to meet you both and that you enjoyed Paris. I wish you both all the best. Thank you very much.
