The apartment is located in a quiet street for a city like New York. The landlady is likeable and attentive to our requests. Getting to the subway is easy. Cleaning should be done more thoroughly.

I hope you enjoyed your stay. It was a pleasure meeting you and your family. I just wanted you to know that your apartment was well prepared in advance of your arrival and that cleaning items are provided in the laundry room if needed throughout a visitor's stay.

Best regards,

Paula

Overall, this apartment is decent but a bit borderline regarding cleanliness. The code for the Internet was given only a few days after our arrival, which is a little annoying when you arrive in an unknown city (and you actually need to look for information!!!). At the end of our stay, we have been asked to take off the bed sheets and to do a load of laundry, which is a bit inappropriate isn't it? There is no toaster in the kitchen, what a shame!

Answer by: Accommodation Owner
Jun 20 2016

Sometimes our expectations can determine our experiences, in spite of what we may actually encounter. And what is familiar at home may be different somewhere else. Such is the beauty and value of travel.

At the time of your departure, you mentioned that there were no kitchen prep knives in the drawer and thought that was something that should be added. And I pointed out to you the wood knife block on the kitchen counter with five kitchen prep knives of various sizes that you had overlooked. Had you mentioned the toaster, I would have gladly pointed that out as well. It has the word "toaster" on it in 3/4 inch lettering, located on the microwave appliance but totally separate from the microwave oven itself, to the right of the oven compartment.

Your experience in a vacation rental in someone's home may differ from that in a hotel. As I recall, the internet code was provided the minute you requested it. Also, my request to guests is to please place used linen in the washer, add detergent that is provided and press the start button. It's a cost-free task that takes no more than one or two minutes. They are not required to stick around until the load finishes, so they are free to go on their merry way.

I encourage guests to tell me right away what their concerns are, so that hopefully the situation can be remedied immediately.

Best regards,

We had a great stay in this apartment: comfortable, spacious and well located to reach the metro. It was nice to return to the quiet neighborhood at the end of our days of visits. The landlady is very welcoming, friendly and available. However, there is only one true bed and the mattresses of the sofa beds are uncomfortable.

Answer by: Accommodation Owner
Sep 16 2015

Thank you for staying at my place Philippe. I'm glad you liked the apartment and neighborhood. The sofa beds, while convenient, can sometimes present varying concerns depending on a user's comfort level. For that reason, the linen closet (bottom section) is stocked with two feather mattress toppers for guests' use. Regards, Paula.

Excellent rental.
Although it is located far from Manhattan, the apartment is a 2-minute walk from 155 Street subway station.
Very secure location. Much less stressful than in the train (RER) in northern Paris...
Negative point: the sofabed of the living room is uncomfortable. The mattress is too thin. You sleep on the springs.
The landlady is very pleasant and accommodating (arrival time, handing over the keys, etc).

Thank you, Nicolas, for your recent NYC visit. I appreciate that you thought the apartment was a secure, excellent rental. It was a pleasure having you and your family stay here. I'm sorry that the pull-out mattress felt too 'springy', which sometimes is a drawback to furniture that does double-duty service. Thankfully, there are two feather mattress toppers stored in the lower section of the apartment's linen closet for guests to use for moments like this.

I spent 12 days at the apartment with my family of 5 and it was a good and comfortable experience for us all. The location was great and I did like the feel of the neighbourhood. My only complaint would be the pull out beds not being very comfortable but that's to be expected with those types of beds anyway and it would have been nice to have a second bathroom with 4 kids around. That said we managed just fine as any household should. The owner was great and I took to her personality from the onset. She was very cordial and pleasant to be around and I have nothing but good to say about her. I would definitely stay in this apartment again and given its location (not being in the hustle and bustle of the city) I think it's ideal for families looking to get away for a few days.

The owner was very helpful and very pleasant. The fridge needs to be changed. It kept dripping water because the door kept opening up and could only be closed a certain way which my kids couldn't quite manage. The rental is very close to a train stop which was a plus for my family. Altogether a nice rental though I was careful going out very late at night.

Thanks so much for your feedback, Nnaemeka! I'm sorry you had issues with the fridge, it has since been fixed. The gasket along the refrigerator door frame didn't allow the door to shut tightly, resulting in condensation, and so I had a repair service replace the gasket. Now the door closes securely. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay!

Nice and spacious apartment. The hostess is nice. It is quiet. Not many place to eat in the neighborhood, a good fish and chips to go 7 blocks away. The street is nice. For subway the line c is located at 1 minute walking. For kids some playgrounds around. The only thing is that the Internet network is poor.

It's always nice to hear feedback from guests about their experiences in New York City. It was wonderful having you and your family stay here for your visit. The apartment is located in one of Manhattan's residential areas and I'm glad you enjoyed the apartment and your stay. I'm sorry you had trouble with the internet; the apartment has high speed internet service and I think it is sometimes affected by weather conditions.

Dear Stephane,

I am glad you enjoyed your stay. I take pride in keeping my tenants satisfied and I appreciate your review very much. Although we are located a bit further away from all major New York City sites, the subway is very convenient.

Again, I appreciate your review and hope to see you again.

Vacation rental a bit off centered but very close to subway (150m), no problem at all with the accommodation, good basic facilities, we'll just mention the dining table size: for 5 it was a bit tight and there were only 4 chairs (we had to use an armchair) and yet the accommodation is advertised for up to 6 people.

Very kind and accommodating hostess - she let us leave our luggage in on our last day as we were only leaving late at night whilst we were supposed to check out in the morning.

Jul 22 2013

Thank you for the warm review. Glad you enjoyed your stay. Please note that the apartment comfortably sleeps 6 people. It has a queen size bed in the master bedroom, a full size pull-out sofa bed in the second bedroom, plus 2 twin size pullout hassock beds, one in the 2nd bedroom, the other in the living room.

For dining arrangements, guests may also add an armless parsons desk chair from the apartment's office to supplement the 4 chairs around the dining table. In addition, the living room has an open floor plan with the kitchen, with a kitchen island and 2 stools situated not far from the dining table for any additional diners.

This affords seating for 7 dinners, no small feat for a New York City apartment. Hopefully, the contract's listing of the apartment's furnishings will allow visitors to gauge their vacation lifestyle in advance.

Owner was great... prompt with communications and very helpful. The apartment was plenty big for 6 people, and we were all comfortable. The neighborhood was fine. We had a drunkard smash a beer bottle on the street outside our window one night, but no other notable events.

The cleanliness was acceptable. The bathroom could have used a new shower curtain.

Overall the unit was fairly clean... not spotless, but acceptable.

Answer by: Accommodation Owner
May 08 2013

Thank you Rico for those nice comments. I am glad that you found the apartment spacious. When several people shower frequently, there's a real need for the shower curtain to dry out thoroughly in a full, open position. The shower curtain may not have adequate time to dry out if it's left in a folded position at the end of the shower rod.

Because I'm not in the apartment, I may not know what has occurred, so I'm grateful for any and all feedback from guests, even after they've departed. If a problem is brought to my attention during the guests' stay, I can usually remedy the situation immediately.

Needless to say, I have replaced the shower curtain with a new one.

We were very disappointed by the value for the money. When we arrived, we had to do the cleaning, which is not normal. Also, given the price the owner asks, you expect a certain level of comfort and cleanliness but - nothing.

Besides, the furniture and the utensils clearly show that the owner doesn't take care of her accommodation. In conclusion: great disappointment!!!

Answer by: Accommodation Owner
Feb 20 2013

I'm sorry that Roselyne was disappointed, but it may be the result of a misunderstanding. Here's an account of what happened as I recall. The four guests arrived by car, driving down from Montreal on the New Year's Eve weekend holiday period. As they were arriving by car, their arrival time may not necessarily have been as precise as they had planned.

As I recall, I was vacuuming when they arrived. Roselyne's male companion graciously volunteered to complete the cleaning!. Of course, I told him no, it was not necessary for him to do any cleaning, that I would finish it, but he insisted and took the vacuum hose from me to do so. Roselyne and her other friends were engaged in bringing up their luggage from the car and foyer to the apartment.

I feel she may have been unaware of her friend's very generous gesture and may have inadvertently felt it was required of her as guest.

Of course, I'm sorry that she was disappointed, as I am always glad to offer the comforts and amenities of my home to guests and take great pride in making sure they are comfortable.

It is a stone's throw from the subway, so we could have a rest in the evening after running around New York! the only downside is that there is no restaurant nearby where you can have a good meal... only fast-food restaurants.

Along with extra linens in the closet, the owner also keeps a feather bed which can be placed on top of the futon or sofa bed to add comfort. The owner can also offer air mattress beds if required for a different comfort. There was a minor leak in the bow of a front window and the owner has since had this issue repaired.

Further to this review, the owner contacted us to confirm she will review all the linens and explain that there is a feather mattress topper in the apartment that guests can put on the futon for extra thickness, or the owner can provide a bed frame and a queen size air mattress upon request.

The owner apologized for any inconvenience and added that she would have liked to be warned so she could step in and resolve the issues immediately.
