Description
Studio Vacation in Les Halles (PA-2590)
Studio, 1 Bathroom - Sleeps 2

This studio apartment is situated on the 5th and top floor (considered 4th by Europeans) of a walk-up building in Les Halles, in the 1st arrondissement of Paris. Dating back to the 18th century, the building features an intercom security system and the apartment has two balconies on opposite ends, making the most of its east-west exposure.

The beautiful balconies, with potted evergreens and flowers, overlook the pedestrian streets below. The larger one has a wooden patio table, four matching chairs, and a sunshade; it faces the elaborate roof and towers of the Church of Saint-Leu-Saint Giles, located right across the street. The smaller balcony offers lovely views of neighboring buildings with typical Parisian rooftops.

Inside, the ceilings are lined with exposed beams, which pair nicely with the hardwood floors and wooden cabinetry. The living area is furnished with a double bed and a unique wooden loveseat, facing the open kitchen. In addition to the breakfast bar, the kitchen has a neat countertop and three high chairs made of wrought iron and leather. It is equipped with all the conventional cooking appliances and utensils.

There is also a TV with cable, stereo, telephone, wireless Internet access, and washer-dryer combo. Double doors, made of antique wood, open onto the bathroom, which is lined with terracotta Moroccan tiles. The bathroom contains a bathtub with detachable showerhead, large mirror under built-in spotlights, cupboard below a white ceramic washbasin, and toilet.

Aside from its interior allure, the best thing about this studio is definitely its convenient location on the pedestrian Rue du Cygne, between Boulevard de Sebastopol & Rue Pierre Lescot, very close to several venues worth visiting, such as the Georges Pompidou Cultural Center and Paris City Hall, around 0.3 miles (480 meters) away.

  • It’s also near must-see attractions, like Le Louvre museum and Notre Dame Cathedral, both within a mile (1.6 km) radius of the rental.
  • Les Halles neighbors the authentic Parisian area of Montogueil, with its many pedestrian residential and commercial streets. It’s a great place to go grocery shopping, as it’s filled with gourmet and mom-and-pop stores. Rue Montorgueil (0.2 miles / 320 m) is a cobblestone street with designer boutiques, remarkable restaurants, and pleasant cafés.
  • You’ll find the Monoprix chain supermarket in the Châtelet area, which also lies on the right bank of the River Seine.

The closest metro station is Étienne Marcel on the 4 line, just 325 feet away. Additionally, the major subway and RER hub, Châtelet-Les Halles (on lines 1, 4, 7, 11, 14, B, C and D), is only 0.2 miles (320m) away.

The apartment is great and the owner is so kind and generous. He didn't leave until he was sure we feel comfortable and we have anything we need. He rememberd I am a pastry chef and drew me a map of the cool profisinals stores!
The apartment is beautiful, love the decorate (and the washing machine), the view is stunning!
Maybe one thing to improvement- the bed. I have back problems and it was pretty hard to find a good position. But even with that the apartment is recommended!

We stayed in this apartment for a full week and loved every moment in it. There is plenty of room with all the comforts of home. The views are spectacular and very conveniently located to all the touristy spots. The owner could not have been more helpful with all information he shared to take advantage of everything to do in Paris. All of this for a very reasonable cost. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Fantastic location. The balcony is a great place for breakfast and dinner. Raphael was very helpful. Some may find the five flights of stairs a bit much but the price would be higher if there was a lift and anyway, it's a great way to burn off all that excess food one can't help consume when in France. Highly recommended.

In April we stayed in M. Manouk's apartment for two non-consecutive weeks.

It was an excellent place to stay, comfortable and well situated. The apartment itself is delightful, plenty of room for two people, lots of light, an adequate kitchen, good view of the ancient church across the street. The deck was a perfect spot for cheese and wine in the late afternoon. There are five flights to walk up, but with fewer flights the light and the view would not be as good.

The location is great: Walking distance from the Louvre, the Orsay, the Cluny, St. Chapelle, Notre Dame, and many good restaurants. More distant touristic sites are easily reachable by subway. Just a few blocks away is a traditional food market street, Rue Montorgueil.

The landlord was friendly and helpful. He lives in the neighborhood, knows it well and will make recommendations. His English is good enough.

So: Good apartment, good location, good landlord. What's not to like?

Highly recommend this apartment to anyone! The balcony terrace is one of the best features. It was great for morning croissants with coffee, afternoon lunches, and late night cocktails under the stars. The owner is very accommodating and willing to help when needed. I would definitely stay at this place again!

This apartment was fantastic - very welcoming, bright and cozy, with the charm of a Parisian apartment and all the conveniences of someone visiting for a short or long period may hope to find.

The central location meant it was easy to access from CDG and the perfect base from which to wander around Paris on foot and by metro.

The owner provided an excellent welcome and made the extra effort to make sure I was comfortable throughout my whole stay. A true pleasure.

The apartment corresponds absolutely with the description - it is a very charming little apartment and we had a great time there. The landlord is extremely nice, provided us with plenty of information about the surrounding and even had a bottle of wine, some juice and milk as well as coffee powder for us. There are CDs and books as well as tourist guides in English and French available.

The roof from the roof terrace is beautiful (you can see Centre Georges Pompidou) which is just a little stroll away. The apartment is located very close to a metro station and in walking distance of shops, good restaurants and also close to the Isle de la Cité and the Louvre. Great place to stay for short as well as long term.

Only thing you have to take into consideration are the 100 steps up to 5th floor which are quite tight and you have to catch your breath once you get up there. I really can recommend this place and the landlord.

We love this cozy little studio apartment and have now stayed there twice. It is the perfect size for a couple in Paris to enjoy the ambiance of the city. The windows and skylights fill the space with light and the balcony brings the inside outside.

We love the location too and being able to walk to the Rue du Montergueile to buy fresh food from the markets or to the Pompidou, Marais or the Seine. It's very convenient for getting to and from the airport and all around the city. A great space for a good value!

This is a great location, and Raphael was very accommodating. The place was cozy, and the terrace space was great. As with many old Parisian apartments, there are "charms" in terms of number of steps to climb and height of shower head, but these are more than made up for by the overall warmth of the apartment.

We loved our stay on rue du Cygne. The apartment was beautifully furnished with exotic furniture, a well-stocked kitchen, comfortable bed and through the exquisite wooden doors, the bathroom exuded a wonderful casbah-feel.

The balconies were great, we enjoyed the privacy and the views along the street. The location is mostly pedestrian streets, but we were happy to watch (in the distance), the hustle of busy thoroughfares. Lots of restaurants and cafes nearby, great people-watching. You don't go to Paris expecting 'quiet', and the city is full of life at all hours.

That being said, we experienced no noise disturbance at all in the apartment. The stairs were a challenge, but the views, lovely apartment and great balconies made the effort more than worthwhile.

Thanks Ana for your comments and for choosing my apartment. There are 5 floors, not 6! An average physical condition is absolutely sufficient to climb them, as the other comments left over the 8 past years show.

great central location right in the center. Great terrace with lots of flowers and beautiful light.

Very attentive owner who provided a lot of important information on shopping, restaurants, city map etc.

Of course it was a bit loud but on the other hand, in the heart of Paris, you can enjoy the Paris by night illuminations.

Highly recommended but you have to be able to climb stairs.

A special highlight was the very kind host who bent over backwards for our well-being before and during our stay. For example, he gave us a list of restaurants he could recommend in the area and a bundle of welcome drinks (red wine, grape juice, milk, water).

The accommodation is in a great central location and very tastefully appointed - although we were out a lot of course, it was always fabulous to come back to the apartment and to sit on the terrace...

We loved the studio. It was really wonderful But......we had much problem with communication We were told the phone could be used for in comming calls. So we bought a phone card for stationary telephone.

When I used my phone card it caused 2 problems
1- The phone was now unable to receive incoming calls
2. I was unable to use the phone card
3. The wifi was cancelled and my iPad was not usable.
We found ourselves without any means of communication!

I believe if we had been told explicitly what to do and what not to do we would not hava been in this difficult predicament. The owner had left us with contact. Numbers but we could not use them!

Also this was a week end in Paris where many if not all shops wew closed! So there was no assistance.

May 15 2012

Of course, we are sorry but we were not informed of this issue during our guests' stay!

I would like to point out that we always give our guests a set of written information (and in particular all our contact details as well as those of our friends from the neighborhood). So there were many ways to contact us:
- come and see us: we give our home address which is 150 meters away, and the address of our two friends who live in the neighborhood,
- email us: the Halles area is a free wifi access area. Also, all the cafes and restaurants in the neighborhood have free wifi, and there are several cybercafes, we give their addresses, too,
- give us a phone call from outside the studio

As for the issue itself, it was resolved instantly just by unplugging and plugging the box back in. It usually works fine with no problem at all.

This apartment was absolutely amazing! My husband and I just got back from our honeymoon and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this apartment. Raphael, the owner, is a delightful man who had a typed list of restaurant suggestions ready for us as well as wine, milk, coffee, and orange juice!

The apartment was stunning with an amazing terrace, awesome view, and exceptionally clean inside. There was a good bit of noise during the night, but I would think that's average for a city like Paris. If we go back to Paris, we will certainly get this apartment again!

The apartment was perfect. The ammenities were first class and everything was spotless. The owners were exceptionally helpful and kind and provided all the things you could want on arrival after a long haul flight; coffee, milk, wine!etc. The location was fantastic and only a very short walk from Notre Dame in central Paris. A supermarket is 50 metres from the front door!

There were multiple Metro and RER staions within a 5 min walk and it was easy to navigate to all of Paris' major sights. There are a plethora of bars and restaurants to choose from in the immediate vicinity. It was beautiful to sit on the balcony with a coffee in the morning and watch the sun come up over Paris.

We feel lucky to have discovered this wonderful jewel in the heart of Paris.

This apartment is ideally located in the heart of Paris and easily accessible to Le Marais for shopping/dining, Louvre (make sure to go during the evening, the light is amazing), Pompidou and there are tons of great cafes and restaurants in the area to explore.

The owner is wonderful and provides you with local recommendations and instruction on everything in the apartment. The terrace can not be beat with beautiful flowers and a fresh rosemary plant! Shopping for produce on the Montorgueil, cooking and dining on the terrace was one of our favorite experiences.

The only downfall of the area is that Les Halles is currently under construction and from the looks of their progress, may be not be completed until mid 2012.

The owner was on holiday at arrival so there was some confusion about amount owing and instructions on the various apartment amenities. His friend that met us was not familiar with the apartment but the fridge was stocked with orange juice and milk to start our stay and there was a bottle of wine to begin our honeymoon!

The lights in bathroom would work only sometimes and WiFi would not work at all with our iPhone but he returned after one week and was great! He is a super friendly guy and came right over and fixed the lights and the wifi.

Location, Location, Location! we could walk to the Louvre, the Seine and were two small blocks from one Metro station and only four or five blocks from the main Chatelet - Les Halles Metro station on the No. 1 line. We couldn't think of a better location from which to explore the city. There was a Velib bike station just around the corner and a mini supermarket 20 steps from the front door. There were cafes and restaurants everywhere in the neighbourhood so late night dining wasn't a problem.

The apartment was cozy but not too small and had everything we needed including an apartment size washer/dryer. The highlight was the terrace. It was a beautiful spot to have breakfast on with views out over the city buildings and the perfect spot to finish the day on with a glass of wine. Surrounded by roses, geraniums and other colourful flowers you feel privacy while being out in the city at the same time - splendid!

Our stay in Paris was made all the more richer by this fantastic apartment. Being foodies, it was great to be able to go to the market on Monmartre a few blocks away and prepare the bounty in a well equipped kitchen. The regular food stores on Montorgueil are fantastic also.

The terrace, equipped with table, chairs, umbrella and umpteen potted geraniums was a fantastic place to relax while nibbling on cheese and sipping wine and musing over our adventures in the "real" Paris. Our gracious host provided staples such as milk and coffee as well as a complimentary bottle of wine.

The apartment itself was tastfully outfitted, as well as containing all the things needed for our comfort. Nice firm bed, ample closet space, beautfiul bathroom with a skylight. We are travellers in our late thirties/early forties, and we hope to find certain comforts while vacationing. We found nothing at all lacking at rue du Cygne. As well, we appreciated the location of this apartment, as it suited us very well.

Being from Toronto (a multicultural haven), we really liked the urban feel, what with the various hiphop clothing stores as well as the unique, artsy boutiques in the Marais, and we cannot understate the value of its proximity to such sites as the Pompidou Centre, the Louvre, Les Halles, and the Seine. It was a great base for culinary reasons also, as the restaurants Spring and Au Pied de Cochon are just 10 or 15 minute walk away, and the cookware store, Dehillerin was 5 or 10 minutes away. We also walked to Belleville and dined at Chez Omar (fantastic couscous!)and Le Baratin (a real gem). Yes, there are some sex shops nearby, but if you can chalk it up as part of the experience, then it shouldn't bother you one bit. The closest we came to being threatened (which is not at all!) is hearing drunken British boys carousing through the streets.

The apartment was a wonderful place to retire to, after our adventures in the city. We know that it actually takes thought and a lot of work to provide the kind of comfort afforded us, and we are grateful to our owner for enabling us to have the vacation of our lives!

Very good apartment. It's actually smaller than appears on the pictures shown, since the ceiling is low. But even so, its cozy and functional. In the kitchen, I missed only a microwave oven, since I'm not quite a good cook.

Very good location. The nearest metro station is just around the corner (I think it took me longer to walk down the stairs from the apartment to the front door, than to walk from the front door to the Metro). And by metro you can get easily to anywhere in Paris. Also, it's a located within a 5 minute walk from the Centre George Pompidou and a 15 min walk from the Notre Dame.

Last, I must join the club and confirm something others have said: the owner is really very kind and helpful.

To sum it up, it's a great stay.

Very reccommendable flat which we very much loved during our stay! Felt very much like home not like an apartment to be rented. Beautiful details, many flowers, great terrace, fully equipped-even CD's and books! Very intimate as there are no direct neighbours on this floor. Very good setting as it lies very central in Paris.

Direct connection to the airport. As Paris is quite an expensive place it's great to use the kitchen for cooking(there is a supermarket close by). The very friendly owner gives you information about the area.

The only thing should be mentioned: very tall people (1.85 m and more) may have problems as the bed is not very big and the ceiling is very low due to the wooden bars. And for those who do not like stairs: there is no lift(and it's on the 5th floor)!

All of the great reviews of this apartment are true. The pictures are a true reflection of the space. It is well maintained, has everything you may need and/or want, including a wonderful balcony with a view of an old cathedral/church. But it is an apartment, not a hotel, so note to bring your personal care items like toothpaste :) But has so much more to offer than a hotel which we were considering staying in and we are so glad we didn't. It was truly a wonderful place to stay.

The owner is great, very nice man who is readily available should you need anything and very on top of all matters. He is very gracious and is so hospitable. He will show you how to work everything in the apt., dishwasher, wash machine, even keeps books of maps and makes lists of the good restaurants in the area.

The neighborhood is in a very central location, no problems at all with any feeling safe late at night. It is in a touristy and highly trafficked area, but again centrally located to many major sites.
A
s to the negatives I saw listed; such as stairs - I am from New York so I am used to walk-up apartments and no problem for me. In fact without it being at the top you wouldn't get the great skylights and wonderful balcony away from the noise on the street. But not recommended for those who have trouble.

And, the bed was plenty comfortable, we both slept very well. I don't know what more I can say that has not already been listed. I would recommend this apt to friends and family.

This apartment was one of the highlights of our ten-day trip to Paris. It was the perfect size for two people, and had every comfort. We loved having a full kitchen (complete with coffee maker and coffee, pans, silverware, glassware, tableware, and cooking utensils), and the bathroom was very nice. The bed and linens were quite comfortable. The dining table seated three, and was very convenient. We really enjoyed the stereo system and CD collection.

The ceiling had original wooden beams, dark with age, that really added to the charm of the apartment, even though it was completely modern. There was a collection of books and magazines that we enjoyed looking through. The owner was incredibly friendly, and answered all questions I had promptly via email. He met us at the apartment, helped carry up our bags, and gave us a welcome packet that included emergency numbers we could call to reach him, as well as a few other people, nearby restaurants that he recommended, and the best places to shop for food, etc.

He had a pocket-sized map book that belonged to the apartment, which we would never have known existed if he hadn't showed it to us - and it saved us on several occasions! We ended up buying our own a few days later, since we used it so much. He even had bottles of milk, orange juice, and wine waiting for us on the counter. I accidentally left a bag in the bathroom, and he offered to ship it home to me.

He really made us feel welcome. He has quite a green thumb, and we loved all the flowers and plants on the terraces, the plants throughout the apartment, and the beautiful orchids in every window. The building is literally around the corner from a Metro station, and the RER line that services the airport has a stop less than a 5 minute walk away. The apartment is in easy walking distance of Pompidou, Notre Dame, Ste. Chapelle, and the Louvre.

The main reason I chose this apartment for our stay was the large front terrace, and it was even bette than I had hoped. It was a very nice size, and had a comfortable patio set, perfect for meals, catching up on email, and enjoying the sun and flowers. It overlooks an old, charming, smaller cathedral, and you can see the roof of the Pompidou Center just past it while sitting on the terrace. The streets immediately below are closed to through traffic, so the apartment is very quiet, but there is plenty of people-watching to be had! We enjoyed breakfast every morning there, and had a glass of wine every night before bed, watching the lights of the city.

We were a little concerned about the stairs, with the apartment being on the top floor, but the views, quiet, and brand new skylights made every trip after a long day sightseeing absolutely worth it. There were a few sex shops on the streets around, but they are very quiet and only open late at night. We barely noticed them. There is no shower curtain for the bathtub, but there is tile throughout the bathroom, so with a little care during the shower it wasn't a big deal.

Overall, we had a wonderful experience, and cannot recommend the apartment highly enough!

A highlight things to improve in the apartment:

We have told our friends and family about Habitat, and I hope that they will be in touch with you. Thanks for making this possible. We will be in contact with you when we travel to a place where you have dealings.

Thank you very much for your assistance in the apartment search for Paris...the apartment was great! We had a lovely time and always enjoyed coming back to our little Paris 'home'. The stairs were very tiring and hard when you have as much luggage as ours, but that was the only negative. The area was really great and we could not have picked a better location not knowing any of the areas in Paris.

We will definitely be using and recommending your services in the future...thanks again.

I absolutely LOVED the apartment! The terrace [of this Paris vacation rental] was gorgeous and a wonderful, sunny spot to have breakfast and dinner. The area the apartment is located in is central to everywhere we wanted to go, and right on metro Line 4!

The landlord was available and accommodating, and the apartment had everything, including a bottle of wine to greet us! I fully recommend this apartment to anyone!

We stayed for 9 days at the vacation rental apartment in the Halles area of Paris. The apartment was better than the pictures - small, cozy, and very thoughtfully & tastefully laid out. There was a nice bathroom/tub, a washer/dryer, ironing set-up, good kitchen set-up, all of which we really appreciated.

The apartment has an awesome terrace and view of the Paris roofscape. We loved the neighborhood - in the middle of a pedestrian-only part of town, close to a great market street, very convenient to the Metro and for walks to all of central Paris. It does border on a slightly seedy street, with a number of sex shops, we did feel we needed to be alert, especially at night, but we never ran into any problem. Only other possible concern would be that it's a five floor walk-up (fine for us).

The owners are extremely generous, charming and helpful. All in all we felt very fortunate to have found the apartment and we had a wonderful stay there - would recommend it if the neighborhood/stair issues don't phase you, and would return to the apartment ourselves in a second.

We absolutely LOVED where we stayed in Paris. The accommodation owner was fantastic and everything was perfect EXCEPT the horrible bed. The bed was so uncomfortable that my husband and I woke up sore from sleeping on it.

With all the positive things about the place I would not stay there again because one needs a good nights sleep.

Further to this review, the owner had the whole bed structure checked because the mattress on the bed is a top quality mattress. It was found that some bed slats and fixings were dislodged. The slatted frame is now fixed.

It was a wonderful stay welcomed by the owner of the vacation rental and he had everything prepared. The location is very conveniently located close to the center of Paris.

It was a lovely apartment and it was actually bigger than we thought by expecting from the photos. For a person with leg injury or elderly, the stairs may be challenging, but for normal people it should be not a problem.

Thanks.

We spent 8 wonderful nights in the apartment [...] Rue du Cygne in Paris.

The [vacation rental] lived up to all our expectations in regards to its location and atmosphere. Although situated close to a number of adult stores we at no time felt uncomfortable. The proximity to Rue Montorgueil was perfect for wandering down in the mornings to buy pastries to enjoy back on the terrace with coffee at the apartment.

La Maison Stohrer is a must for the most amazing pastries. We also purchased food from them for a picnic one evening along the river bank which was all delicious.

Rue Montorgueil is also a great spot for buying fresh food from the markets to cook dinner at night.

We spent a number of sunny afternoons with aperitifs on the terrace or enjoying dinner on the evenings we weren't eating out.

The apartment was cosy but no problem when spending time with the one that you love. The only other thing that we would say is there are a lot of steep narrow stairs up to the apartment to be conquered several times a day but as long as you are relatively fit and stable on your feet these are good exercise for working off the food and champagne!

The owners were very welcoming and had provided a booklet of restaurants, shopping and helpful hints which was invaluable.

We also had great service from [our agent] at NYHabitat which made the whole experience so easy and reassuring and look forward to using them again.

Overall this apartment was very hard to leave and enriched our time during this trip to Paris. We will definitely be back for the next visit.

The apartment was even more charming than the photos suggested, and our hosts were very welcoming and helpful. The books, Cd's, and antiques made us feel at home, and the terrace with flowers was a romantic place to have dinner overlooking the neighborhood.

It was very convenient to the metro and RER, and close to many of the museums.

I would definitely stay here again, and in fact can't wait to return to Paris.

We loved this apartment. It was a perfect little nest for 2. Much cheaper and 10 times more charm than a middle of the road hotel. We made a fantastic choice in our eyes to go with a vacation rental rather than a hotel room. It was 15 min walk from The Louvre, 2 minutes walk from the nearest Metro station and 50mtrs walk from a small supermarket which was just perfect for our needs.

Our landlord and his wife were incredibly helpful, supplying us not only with heaps of local information but also a lovely little package of a bottle of wine, orange juice, milk and coffee to start us off.

We would stay at this appartment time and again.

This vacation rental was perfect for our weeklong stay. We enjoyed eating on the balcony and watching the world go by, and the location meant that great food stores were around the corner and all major sites were within walking distance. When we chose to go far afield, the central location meant every district could be reached quickly.

The Host was also lovely, the apartment well stocked and clean. It is in a slightly "gritty" area, but we felt quite safe even coming home at Midnight.

We will stay here again.

The apartment was perfect. We selected that apartment based on the location and terrace. The location could not be better -central Paris with subways very nearby. The terrace was amazing. Private, comfortable, with beautiful views of the neighborhood. The apartment itself was very charming and clean. The kitchen had everything we needed. There is a huge closet where we were able to hang our clothes and keep our suitcases.

[Accommodation owner] a pleasure to work with. Apartment charming, clean, comfortable. The neighborhood great, mostly French and North African, no tourists other than the two of us in evidence. Our stay in the apartment at les Halles Paris was very agreeable. The apartment has everything necessary, is very luminous and very well placed for all transports and the most interesting sites to visit. The owner is very nice and offers you a lot of information about the city. The terrace has an agreeable sight to a church and is very adapted to eat or to have dinner if it does not rain.

For all the apartment is totally advisable for a couple. The only one inconvenience is that the staircase is narrow and there are five floors. If we return to Paris we will repeat this apartment to sleep. Thank you for all your work and I hope that these commentaries are useful to other persons.

A lot of nice little touches (he left us orange juice, coffee, milk and a bottle of wine!). He also has set up the apartment so that it is very "tourist friendly" --- including lots of books and maps of Paris and CDs of French music to listen to in the evening!

The area was very quiet at night and a very short walk to all of the sites we wanted to see.

We were very happy with our experience. I would recommend NYhabitat to anyone going to Paris or London. We will definitely use your agency the next time we go abroad and would definitely consider staying in the same apartment.

Not only did he have us stocked with all the amenities, including a bottle of wine, bottled water and juice, croissants, etc., he also gave us a guided tour of the neighborhood (pointing out his favorite boulangerie, patisserie and restaurants) and invited us out for a drink with his family before we departed. The apartment was accurately represented on the site. The owner was very polite during our initial meeting with him. When it was time for us to leave Paris on the last day, he showed up exactly at the time we requested to meet him and he refunded all of our security deposit. He even helped us call a taxi to the airport and waited with us until the car picked us up.

I would definitely stay at that apartment again or use NYHabitat again for another rental in Paris. Service was excellent and the prices seemed reasonable to me. I've told many people about the service and provided them with a link to the web site.
