Cannes started out as a small Mediterranean village of fishermen and monks but grew into an internationally recognized city and resort in the French Riviera due to the Cannes International Film Festival which takes place annually in May. With the demand from the festival plus Cannes excellent Riviera beaches, Cannes has become a hot spot for vacation rental apartments.
Cannes is well known for its shopping, which includes high-end retailers, top notch restaurants and of course its beaches and the Cannes Film Festival.
Off of the coast of Cannes are the Lerins Islands which are a nearly unspoiled part of nature just off of the French coast. L'ile Sainte Marguerite, will surprise you with its scents of pine and eucalyptus, its botanic trail, its translucent waters and numerous migratory birds. L'ile Saint Honorat, hosts a 5th century monastery.
Other major sites around Cannes include: the Museum of Castre, the Rothschild Villa and its park, La Malmaison art center, the Notre Dame des Pins church, and the Villa Domergue including its gardens.
Cannes has plenty to offer to the tourist crowd and from the Cannes Film Festival in May through the summer, the city is brimming with people.
