Loft-like apartment in the East Village
Location: NYC, East Village, 11th Street between A&B Avenues.

Building: Classic pre-war construction. Hallway floors are mosaic tile and stairs are marble. Banisters are wrought- iron and wood. Entry is by key or buzzer/intercom. The apartment is 4 flights up. There is no elevator.

Size: 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom. Approx. 850sq.ft.

Interior: This is a very large and bright apartment (9 windows!). This space was formerly two apartments, and the result is that it is very spacious, almost loft-like. It is designed in the classic "railroad", or "floor-thru" style, where the space runs "thru" almost the entire length of the building. There is a private bedroom off the "floor-thru" space with a wood/glass door and furnished with a double-bed, 3 side tables, a bed lamp, a dresser, a large closet and window, a TV with cable and DVD. You enter the main living area from the hallway into a sitting area on a captains bed near a stained glass window. There is a dining table area, and next to it are 2 sofas facing each other. There is A/C in the living room. Behind French doors is the office area with plenty of desk space and 2 windows. The bathroom is hand tiled and has a glass shower door. The kitchen floor is also hand-tiled and has a toaster and refrigerator/freezer and a window. There is an air conditioner in the bedroom and a ceiling fan in the living area. The floors are the original hardwood. The apartment is tastefully decorated in photographs and art and has a Latin American influence in colors and artwork. Utilities and basic cable are included. There is high speed internet access. (No smoking and no pets, please). In June 2004 the apartment was freshly painted and the floors were freshly re-finished.

The apartment building has a roof deck.

Neighborhood: The famous Tompkins Square Park is one block away, where one can take meals, just coffee, read or just sun oneself. This area is full of restaurants, bars, cafes, markets, clubs, delicatessens, and many and varied service and merchandise stores. The Village is drenched in history. Allen Ginsberg lived around the corner and Charlie Parker, W.H. Auden, and Phillip Glass down the avenue. From the immigrants of the turn-of-the-century, to the bohemians of the 30's and 40's, the "beats" of the 50's, the hippies of the 60's and the yuppies of the 70's and 80's, this remains one of the top places-to-be in New York City.

Transportation: The F train is at 1st Avenue and Houston, the #6 at St. Marks Place and 4th Avenue, and the cross-town L train at 1st Avenue and 14th Street.
