Welcome to El Barrio, also known as East Harlem, a neighborhood rich in history and culture and one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the city! Here you can escape the crowds and chaos of city while being only 2 subway stops from Midtown! You will find this three bedroom furnished apartment at 120th Street & Madison Avenue, on a tree-lined street in the northeastern part of Manhattan. The apartment is on the 3rd and top floor (considered 2nd by Europeans) of a walk-up townhouse built in 2001.
Upon entering the apartment you will feel the inviting and warm atmosphere brought by the rich color tones used for the décor and the hardwood floors. In the living room, the lively fall color palette gives a sense of comfort, while the red and orange walls in two of the bedrooms bring a lot of energy! If you prefer neutral tones for your bedroom, then choose bedroom 3, whose light and airy décor create a restful sleeping space; however please note that this bedroom has one wall that does not extend fully to the ceiling, so noises from the living room can be heard more easily.
This apartment is fully furnished to make your stay in New York City convenient and enjoyable. The living room is furnished with a sofa-bed where you can enjoy your favorite programs on TV. The kitchen is fully equipped with all the necessities to cook your meals at home, and has a pass-through counter opening up into the living area providing a way for you to serve food from the kitchen. Each of the three bedrooms are furnished with a double bed and have a southern exposed window overlooking a garden. The bathroom has a bathtub/shower and the towels are provided.
A great thing about this location is that it is surrounded by many commodities serving your everyday needs: there are three grocery stores 3 and 4 streets away, many pharmacies, delis, fast food restaurants all around, a post office, all this in a 0.5 mile (800 meters) radius. You will also find many parks to relax in, museums, and shopping options, such as:
- Central Park: New York's biggest park is located only 0.6 miles (1 km) away. Boasting plenty of nature, several lakes, and many sports facilities, the park is ideal to play sports, relax, have a picnic or go for a stroll. It is a real oasis in the heart of the country's most hectic city!
- Marcus Garvey Park: if you are looking for a place to relax but don' t feel like walking to Central park, just walk a few steps across the street to this park offering activities for people of all ages. There are two playgrounds for children, an outdoor swimming pool where you can sun in the summer months and an amphitheater where you can gather with your family or friends top watch plays and concerts.
- Shopping on 125th Street: the heart of this shopping thoroughfare is between 5th Avenue and St. Nicholas Avenue, where you'll find big chain stores like Amercian Apparel, Old Navy and H&M for clothes, Mac Cosmetics and The Body Shop for cosmetics and many more. Hip-Hop boutiques, book stores and African importers are there also representing the unique Harlem character!
- Museums: to learn about Harlem's culture, visit El Museo del Barrio (0.9 miles / 1.5 km) or The National Jazz Museum in Harlem 6 streets to the north.
Another great perk is the convenient public transportation. The 125 Street / Lexington Avenue station is servedby two express trains (4, 5) that run down Manhattan and will take you to 59th Street in Midtown in only 2 stops! For local stops, take the 6 at 116 Street / Lexington Avenue. These three lines also run north to the Bronx and south to Brooklyn.
