Astoria is a "real melting pot" You can stand on a corner and find people from everywhere. Once the home of the Irish, Italians, and Greeks, the neighborhood is one of the city's oldest but now is being populated by new groups: Asians, Latin Americans, and young folk (professionals and artsier types). They leave Manhattan, where "everything costs too much," 10-minute commute to Manhattan's East Side, and your in a good neighborhood. The neighborhood is lovely, residential, quiet and offers shopping around and Astoria Park is not too far away. Need Greenery? Astoria Park is a good size park along the river and houses a pool complex, baseball diamonds, a track, tennis courts, and plenty of space to picnic.
