Ideal for students, this room for rent is perfectly situated in Morningside Heights: 4 blocks from the South Lawn quad at the heart of Columbia University, 1 block from the subway and right between two parks. Even more, this shared apartment is in a great building, complete with a full-time doorman, elevator and shared laundry facilities. The apartment itself is on the 12th floor (11th by European standards), rising above most buildings in the area to allow in plenty of light.
Your bedroom is just off the main foyer of the apartment, with the other roommate's quarters on the opposite side, promoting privacy. This room for rent has it all and more: it is furnished with a king size bed and a desk, and also features WiFi access and an air conditioning unit. The window faces east to bring in the morning and afternoon light, and looks over the streets of this historic area. You also have your own pedestal sink in this room, next to the door that leads to the shared bathroom.
The bathroom is shared with your roommate, who has access via a door in the kitchen. It is a small space, with a shower and toilet. The kitchen is spacious and has charming subway tile wainscot halfway up the wall, checkered floors and a large window to brighten the space. There is a gas stove, full refrigerator, coffee maker and toaster, as well as a small dining table for two. Please note that there is no living room in this apartment share.
Outside the building, you'll find yourself on West 111th Street and Broadway, just a block west of Riverside Park and the Hudson River Greenway, a great place to enjoy nature or take a bike ride all the way to downtown Manhattan! Broadway offers plenty of restaurants and convenience shops, including Tom's, famous from Seinfeld, Pinkberry, Starbucks, Chipotle and other more "local" spots (don't miss the New York bagels!). Walking north a few blocks will take you past Columbia University residence halls to the heart of the campus itself, a great opportunity for cultural events and other diversions. For nightlife, head south, where there are plenty of bars and lounges; try Abbey Pub on 105th Street for an authentic local experience. The greater Harlem area also has shopping options on the 116th Street corridor.
To get out of Morningside Heights, you can grab the 1 train at Broadway and 110th Street, just a block away, which runs local down the West Side but can connect you to the express 2 and 3 trains for quick trips to downtown or Brooklyn. There is also the B and C trains about 5 blocks away, on the northwest corner of Central Park, which will also take you north-south, but also hits hot spots like Bryant Park, Herald Square and SoHo, allowing you navigate NYC as easily as possible!
