Description
Studio Vacation in Flatbush, Brooklyn (NY-11870)
Studio, 1 Bathroom - Sleeps

This studio apartment is in the basement of a lovely house in the Flatbush area of Brooklyn, New York. On Marlborough Road & Beverly Road, this home is on a calm residential area, with tree-lined streets and elegant historic residences from the Victorian era. You’ll be able to take advantage of the shared facilities, including the fitness and laundry rooms, as well as the lovely backyard—during the summer months. There is a lockbox available for check-in and checkout key drop-offs as well as complimentary wireless internet access throughout the property.

To enter the air-conditioned studio, take the stairs down to the front door, which opens into the living area. It is furnished with a vintage flair, including a pull-out couch, and a regular queen-size bed, as well as an armchair, dresser, floor lamp, and side table. You can watch cable TV or movies, using the flat-screen TV and DVD player. There is an open kitchenette, where you can prepare your meals, and then sit down to enjoy them at the wooden-dining table, which seats four guests. Please note that there is no stove available, but that there are two electric burners. The bathroom is equipped with a shower stall, a sink with a storage cabinet, and a WC. Linens and towels are provided upon arrival. At the back end of the apartment, is a storage room, where you can place all of your belongings. Since this apartment is located in the basement, it can be dark at certain times of the day ceiling is 6'4"ft only. Limited fitness equipment are available.

Flatbush is an area of Brooklyn that comprises several neighborhoods and therefore has a lot of character. Because of its diversity, not only will you get the opportunity to meet people from various backgrounds, but you will also get to enjoy the ethnic cuisines at specialized restaurants, from Filipino to Tibeten. Try The Farm on Adderly, known for its brunches and collaboration with local artisans and entrepreneurs, Purple Yam, popular for its delectable Pan-Asian meals, and Mimi’s Hummus, which serves a variety of dishes with influences from Israel, Morrocco, and the Kurdish region of Iraq! They are all located on Cortelyou Road less than .3 miles (550m) away. Support organic farmers and socially responsible companies, by shopping for produce and other items at the Flatbush Co-Op (right around the corner), open 7 days a week. Just half-a-mile (800m) north is Prospect Park, which aside from being the perfect spot for relaxing and engaging in outdoor sports, is also home to the Cherry Esplanade, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Prospect Park Zoo, and the Brooklyn Public Library!

Obviously, there is much to see and do in Flatbush. But if you’d like to commute to other parts of NYC, catch the Q train at the Beverley Road / East 16 Street and Cortelyou Road / East 16 Street stations, both within a 2-block radius (about 250m maximum), or walk a little further (7 blocks/1km) to the Church Avenue / East 18 Street station, which runs on the B and Q lines. You can go from Manhattan to Coney Island with these trains!

Please note that there is a train that runs near the apartment and can be heard throughout the day, though less frequently during nighttime hours.

Great location, line Q of the metro 200m away, the flat perfectly matched the ad, Mél is very friendly and very accommodating. The house and the neighborhood are very quiet and very pleasant You can hear the metro, but you get used to it very easily. The only drawback in my opinion would be the lack of ventilation in the flat, especially in the bathroom ...

Hello Christelle,
Thanks for the review! I'm glad you enjoyed the apartment and your stay. There is a vent above the shower, but I will make sure it is functioning properly for future guests.
All the best,
Mel.

Apartment review: First of all, the positive point is Mel's kindness.
We met him after a 10-hour trip. The subway station is 100 m from the house, it's really great after a long day walking in the city. Mel did a very simple inventory and explained a few things about the way it works. Mel went grocery shopping (he bought orange juice, cereals, milk, butter, bread, cookies, wine): what a nice surprise considering New York's food prices! It was a nice gift.
Other than that, the studio apartment is in the basement, at first we thought that we would hear the train, but we didn't actually, after travelling through the streets and avenues all day long, we didn't need any sleeping pills. The area is very nice with beautiful houses.
Regarding amenities in the apartment, don't expect to cook (there are hot plates, a microwave and a fridge), it is more a place to sleep.
As our return flight was modified, we had to leave the apartment earlier in the morning, so we left a note to Mel who was very accommodating and facilitated our departure. In short, Mel is great.
We thank him for being a part of our wonderful stay.

Just like last time we stayed here 3 years earlier, we enjoyed our stay here. Since our last stay a number of amenities and appliances have been brought up to date making it even more practical for our needs. The other residents in the building were so helpful when the owner was at work when we had a minor issue. When the owner wasn't at work, he was more than helpful and quick to fix any issues. Which is why we will always stay here whenever we are back in New York .Another big plus is the apartments location. Two minutes walk to the train station and 4 minutes to the supermarkets and coffee shops and many other types of shops .Excellent. One minor thing that probably needs to be fixed is a hook or something like it to hang towels on in the bathroom.

Hi Simon, thank you for taking the time to write a review and comments. Your suggestion to add a hook for the towel in the bathroom has been shared with the owner, and we expect his action, as you noted he's been with us for a long time and is always willing to help. We hope to serve you again in the future,

Mel's place on Marlborough Road is our home away from home. It is reasonably priced, well-stocked with necessities, and located on a tree-lined street in the Brooklyn community of Flatbush. A typical day would begin with an easy run to Prospect Park. Then we take a short walk to Cafe Madeline for breakfast and the best coffee in town. Also a short walk from Mel's place is the Q-line subway that goes uptown into Manhattan or downtown to Coney Island. And local restaurants are abundant. Walk to San Remo's on Cortelyou Road for pizza or Madina for excellent but inexpensive Indian (Pakistani, Balgladesh) cuisine on Coney Island Avenue.

We had a pleasant stay in New York and felt immediately right at home in this apartment. Mel is adorable and very welcoming.
We really enjoyed meeting him. When we arrived, he provided us with milk, orange juice, yoghurts, butter, cheddar, bread, cereals and a bottle of wine. We appreciated it.
The apartment is very comfortable, the area is very pleasant with shops nearby, subway is also close by and took us in Manhattan in 20 minutes (30 minutes for Times Square).

Mel welcomed us very nicely, he even provided our first breakfast, which we really appreciated after our long journey.
The apartment is very close from Beverly Road subway station, which made our travel to NY very easy. At the far end of the street, there is a very convenient supermarket and many other amenities. The street is quiet and the neighbors are nice.
We suffered from the closeness with the subway station but after visiting NYC and the surroundings all day long, it was not really an issue (which explains our average feedback about noise). Good value for money.

Strong points: - Located next to subway station, it takes about 30 minutes to reach Times Square / Good wifi signal / Not expensive / Very helpful owners who offered us some welcome gifts (groceries for breakfast and a bottle of wine) / Very clean and nicely equipped apartment.

Weak points: - Only one tiny window opening to outside and no natural light in the studio / Very noisy as the subway runs all night / Air conditioning is not great and noisy.

To sum up: Despite the weak points mentioned above, it is still a very good value for money. Subway station is a 2-minute walk which is very convenient.

Hi Christophe,
Many thanks for your thoughtful review. So glad you found both the house and the neighborhood to your liking. Having the subway so close has its advantages as well as well as disadvantages. I know that the noise of the train can be vexing to those who are particularly sensitive to noise. That is why I state it in my studio's description. And of course with only 3 small Windows the studio it is rather dark. All in all, as you said, it's still a great deal. Hope to see you again to test out the new air conditioner.
Best wishes, Mel

The apartment perfectly matches its description. We were glad not to have unpleasant surprises! This place is very well located because it is only a few meters from subway station, which is very enjoyable after having walked all day. It is around 40 minutes from the heart of Manhattan. It is also next to shops.
The apartment in itself is in keeping with pictures and description, nothing else to add. Indeed, you can hear the train but as far as we are concerned it did not prevent us from being fast asleep!
Mel is a very welcoming host and he was available whenever needed.
Fresh products were stored in the fridge when we arrived.
In short, we had an excellent stay in New York in this apartment. Thanks for everything Mel!

This apartment perfectly matches the agency website's pictures/description. The landlord is generous, he puts himself in the tenant's place who is tired after several flying hours. Subway station is literally nearby. Daily shops are down the street and open late (including takeaway food). I was able to come to New York thanks to its good value for money. I won't live there my whole life but it is perfect for leisure.

Actual reviews on website are truthful. Decent apartment for a one-week stay. OK for 3-4 people. Good value for money. Bathroom ceiling was low: it is not advisable if you are 1.85 meter tall. Nicely welcomed by owner. Some necessities on the table and in the fridge, greatly appreciated. Quiet and beautiful street. Shops and subway nearby (very convenient). You get used to subway noise after the first night (with earplugs though). To be improved: double bed's duffle should be cleaned, crockery under the sink should be tidied up and cleaned up, cupboard above the sink smells, lighting in the shower and washable curtain in washing machine should be added, a movable shower head would be more convenient to wash and rinse. The cord to switch on the neon light above the sofa is hard to use, you really have to pull it to switch it on or off. Overall, electric circuit is really average.

Hi Monique,
Thanks so much for you review. You know, we only correct things when we're made aware of them. The lights, both above the couch and in the
bathroom, have been fixed and are working just fine. Regarding the cleanliness and storage, the studio is professionally cleaned before and after each stay. For your information, everybody have a fixed shower head in USA. The noise from the train, on the other hand, cannot be controlled. For that reason I had it placed in the description. Some people cannot deal with the noise.
At any rate, I'm certainly happy that it didn't interfere with your overall stay and would love to host you again. Best wishes, Mel

We stayed in the apartment located on Marlborough Road & Beverly road owned by Mel. Great stay in New York City. Ideally located with the subway nearby (Q line which goes to Manhattan). Owner is adorable, very welcoming, very helpful and accommodating. Small gifts were featured in the apartment so do not hesitate to offer him a small gift also (he deserves it). Rental is located far from Manhattan, which is a significant plus as the city is very noisy. So you will enjoy quietness and greenery in this Brooklyn neighborhood. We would recommend it without a doubt. And I even think I will come back.

The nice owner welcomed us warmly and was available. The apartment is ideally located between 2 subway stations, so that you can reach Midtown Manhattan in 30 minutes maximum. Generally speaking, it is in good condition but equipment is aging a bit ("unpredictable" electric stove). TV, electric heaters, wifi, coffee maker and toaster are in good condition. A lot of storage space (dresser, clothes closet with hangers). Good bedding. Many blankets, pillows and bath towels at our disposal. When we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised to see that the fridge was partially stocked with milk, orange juice, cheese, yoghurts... There were also cereals, coffee and a bottle of wine. It is a quiet neighborhood with a lot of shops nearby. We highly recommend this place!!

Answer by: Accommodation Owner
Sep 30 2015

Dear Kasia and Filipe,
Very sorry that your stay at my home was not more pleasant. However, let me clear up several points: the studio is professionally cleaned before and after each stay. There is a checklist which includes changing all sheets, pillowcases, and towels, wiping all surfaces, polishing all wood, changing shower curtains and vacuuming the entire studio. In addition, the mini frig is cleaned and fresh food restored. I personally check that all this has been done.
The studio can become humid and musty during August. However there is a dehumidifier next to the bathroom which helps to eliminate the moisture.
The studio is a bit dark and perhaps a few more lamps would brighten things up.
Lastly, some people are disturbed by the train that runs behind the house. There is not much I can do about that and for that reason it is mentioned in the description of the apartment.
In spite of the above, your note stated that you had and enjoyable stay in New York and for that I am pleased.
Best Wishes,
Mel

We didn't spend a lot of time with Mel (away the week of our stay) who was nonetheless very nice and a pleasure to talk with. William, Mel 's friend, was always available and very helpful when our car broke down. The apartment, located in the basement of a big house, is well located in a quiet residential area, close to shops and 2 minutes away from the subway that connects you directly to Manhattan. Speaking about the subway, it didn't bother us at all, even though it is running pretty close to the house. The bed and the sofa are comfortable. We also enjoyed the washer and dryer.

It is very well located in Brooklyn, next to a metro station (5 minutes walking). The owner is a lovely person, she is very helpful and always available. It's a shame that I don't speak better English, I would have loved to engage longer conversations with her: D. The apartment is very well located, at only one block from the subway station. Wifi is very good and the temperature inside the apartment is excellent (we stayed there during the winter). My main concern was the safety of the neighborhood, but the truth is that it is very safe. It's very close to a shopping area with restaurants, pharmacies and food shops. I highly recommend the sweet chicken sandwich from the corner store called "father and son". I read other reviews where people complained about the noise of the train, but honestly we were so tired after our walks that we didn't even notice it. Mr. Mel is very kind and helpful, he cares about his guests, we were very happy with him. We were welcomed with food, bread, butter, cheese, yogurt, cereal, milk and WINE !!! A wonderful welcoming. You could hear the subway but I'm sure that's pretty normal, the ceilings & some doorways where lower then normal, the kitchen unit is a unit, but worked ok for small meals. We were delighted with our stay. Mel was extremely friendly, cordial and concerned with our well-being. The apartment wasn't top of the range but definitely adequate for the rent and offered the charm of a personalized home. The bedding was excellent for the bed, much less so for the sofa bed. The residential neighborhood was pleasant; it was so convenient to have the subway so close by, it certainly made up for the inconvenience of the noise.

Hi Marie-Annick,
It was all my pleasure hosting you and your family. Your son was a delight and look forward to his return someday .I thank you for the great review and so very happy your experience was positive. Sorry that the sofa bed was not more comfortable; it's new but they're just not standard beds. Also glad that the muted sound of the passing trains did not effect your over-all experience. I would be quite happy to see you all again. My best wishes for the rest of the summer. Mel

Probably the best decision I made for this trip was to stay in this apartment in Brooklyn. The street is beautiful with very nice houses and completely safe. Only a block to the subway! After a day in the city with the constant noise, it was so nice to step off the subway, round the corner of the street and enjoy a quiet street. Highly recommend The Tibetan Cafe on Cortelyou St. Just a block away along with several other restaurants in the area.

The owner met us on our arrival and was extremely nice. He had stocked the mini refrigerator with yogurt, milk, OJ, cheese, had a couple boxes of cereal and a bottle of wine for me. This was appreciated in the morning (well, not the wine, in the morning) and so nice of him to do. He went well beyond his responsibilities to make sure our stay was enjoyable! He has a lovely backyard, which unfortunately, I was so tired every evening, I never fully enjoyed. He was even kind enough to take care of calling for a ride to the airport on our day of departure. Couldn't have asked for a better host.

The apartment itself was perfect for our needs. Myself and my two teens stayed comfortably. A few things to be aware of. The train does pass by closely and while you can hear it, since you're in the basement, it is not loud and it never interfered with our sleep or anything. Also, being in the basement, the ceilings are not incredibly high and the bathroom is pretty small. I'd say it might only be awkward if you were quite tall, like 6'2" or more maybe.

Overall, highly recommend staying here and would definitely do it again if I'm in New York again. Thanks so much for everything, Mel!

Hi Danell,
Thank you so much for your gracious review. So glad my studio helped to make your vacation memorable. You and the kids were great guests only your stay wasn't long enough; you must come back ! By the way, I realize that the ceilings are a bit low but have yet to figured out how to advertise for guests under 6' 3". Hope the rest of your summer is filled with joy. My best to your kids, Mel

Thanks for the review Danell. As mentioned in the description, there is a train that runs near the apartment and can be heard throughout the day, but runs less frequently during nighttime hours. We are glad you liked your stay and that the apartment was to your liking!

STONG POINTS:
- Very pleasant area, very quiet neighborhood with victorian houses from the early 1900's, some of which are renovated and gorgeous.
- Cortelyou rd and Newkirk subway stations 5 min away from the apartment, upton Q line to Manhattan less than half an hour away and back downtown, fyi unlimited metro pass $30 per person for a week.
- Apartment equipment was adequate, washing machine and dryer available, iron and hairdryer, so you don't have to bring too many clothes and saves you the hassle of household chores when you get back home! excellent temperature level inside the apartment
- lots of local stores to buy food
- the host had left a few ingredients for the first day (wine, orange juice, cornflakes, butter, cheese...)

WEAK POINTS: very few
- It isn't a luxury apartment but we were aware of that when we selected it (however the floor and the bathroom could do with redoing), you'll have no view outside as it is a basement but this apartment is only a base.
After an intensive day walking around Manhattan, you'll only want one thing: take your shoes off and relax before a good night's sleep!

So this vacation rental is excellent value for money and will allow you to enjoy a larger budget for the museums which are quite expensive.

On top of that, Mel is a very nice man who is worth meeting and who you can talk about anything at all with, the crème de la crème!

Careful: for those who arrive at Newark airport: the taxi to Brooklyn costs over $100 (yellow cab=driver doesn't own the car) and on our way back we paid $85 (green taxi means that the car belongs to the driver)

We'll keep excellent memories of our trip, of the accommodation and of Mel, our host.

Thanks you so much for your review. It was truly lovely getting to meet you and having time to " smooze'. So glad you were excited by the city and had time to explore so much. I'm also happy that you liked the neighborhood. As you know, it the largest concentration of Victorian Homes in the country.

By the way, I looked at the bathroom and decided you're right; it could use an update. By your next visit it will be accomplished.
Last but not least: being called "Crème de la crème" was a first and I do appreciate it. Have a wonderful summer. Mel

The apartment perfectly matched the description we'd been given. Clean apartment, comfortable bed and useful little kitchenette, convenient for breakfast. One asset is how close it is to stores and restaurants.

The host is an absolutely charming man whom we really cared to share a bottle of champagne with. Bread on the table, a bottle of wine, butter and a warm welcome for our arrival.

The subway being very close by is an advantage (thirty minutes from Manhattan) and the noise from the subway didn't disturb us. The apartment timeworn aspect (heating, electricity) didn't bother us.

It is really good value for money and allows you to organize a stay in excellent conditions to have rest periods after very busy days.

I really enjoyed spending my vacation in Mel's apartment.. our host was pleasant, kind and uncomplicated throughout the stay. When we first arrived at the apartment, the bottle of wine and the scones were a really nice little bonus :)

The apartment is as described.. it is located in the basement so it is a bit dark since the lights need to be permanently on but the advantage is that it's never too hot or too cold.

The apartment is in a good location since it is in Brooklyn and allows you to live with real Americans who live in the suburb. the subway is a 3 min walk.

Very clean.. nothing to say.

Cute apartment! Exactly the same impression as from the photos so you can figure out what comes to you - Nice style in green, low ceiling, sufficient gadgets and even a half full fridge! We =2 persons from Germany, fell in love with the lovely vintage Dekoration for the First Sicht.

The only negative point was that the bathroom wasn't clean (hair in the shower an on the floor) and the free wifi only worked in the bathroom for the first login. That everything's vibration when Subway was arriving didn't annoy us, we rather appreciated the location/short distance: less than 1 Minute to the station!!

Another highlight was the flexibility and kindness of the owner making us feel so comfortable. Mel was always there for us especially when we needed assistance to restart after a little power breakdown we could call in the middle of the night. It's a shame we could not say goodbye personally to him because he was at work when we had to leave :(

Only can recommend to everybody this vacation rental located in a nice neighborhood where public transport is so close and makes your nyc trip much easier especially for an awesome price! Definitely would come here again.

All said and done, I'm happy that you were happy with the experience and would come again.

I would like to point out the owner Mel's extreme kindness and helpfulness. We communicated regularly prior to our arrival. Mel answered all the various questions I had. We had booked at the time of Hurricane Sandy and Mel immediately offered to postpone our trip for a few days if we could. We were greeted with muffins, a bottle of wine and a bunch of flowers, which touched us deeply. There was also bread, cheese, yoghurt, milk and cereals for the children.

The neighborhood is extremely pleasant. The immediate proximity of the subway is an asset (that makes up for the noise). It takes you directly to Times Square in 20 minutes.

Three of us stayed at this apartment for 3 nights: my husband, my 9-year-old son, and myself. We can't say enough good things about Mel and about this apartment! Mel was a gracious and friendly host. We were greeted with a bottle of wine, a delicious loaf of garlic bread to accompany our dinner, and scones and other breakfast items for the next morning, so that we wouldn't have to go grocery shopping right away.

The price is right, especially for folks traveling on a budget, and having the ability to cook some of our meals in the room rather than having to eat out all of the time really, really helped us to save our "fun money" for fun.

The location is great! It's in a beautiful and vibrant Victorian section of Brooklyn. It's just one block from the subway, so travel was extremely easy and convenient. It's literally right around the corner from the Flatbush Food Co-Op, which is open until midnight. In addition, there are several restaurants and bars about a block from the apartment on Cortelyou Street. We had a delicious meal at one of them, The Purple Yam. We just couldn't ask for a better location. We felt so at home.

The apartment itself is warm, clean, has all the amenities you need (refrigerator, hotplate stove, microwave, coffee maker), and is beautifully furnished -- we loved the tapestries on the walls, the antiques, the funky collection of clocks, and all of the paintings. Be sure to check out Mel's beautiful back yard and goldfish pond! Lovely! Mel was also generous enough to allow us access to his washer/dryer, which was really helpful after we became soaked in a rainstorm on one day of our stay.

We were so comfortable and happy. This will definitely be our first choice for accommodations when we return to NYC in the future!

Very kind and friendly fellow, an absolute sweetheart. Super helpful and thoughtful to us, and lives upstairs.

Suite is the basement in a lovely old victorian style house on a street lined with pretty trees and homes, in a nice area. Suite is in an older building, with shower only, and has been decorated with rugs and antiques. The bed and futon slept four nicely.

Chinese food and an organic market are nearby, beside two easy metro stops direct to Manhattan.

Trains are safe, easy and fast before midnight, but the nearby stops close after 12 and the walk from the 'church' stop is a bad area. If you plan to return home before midnight,

I cannot imagine a better place, but if you do stay out late, choose the longer walk from the metro stop after Beverly to stay in the nicer area.

Answer by: Accommodation Owner
Oct 18 2012

Thanks, that is a good review.

I'm not sure why the train is not running after midnight. I think they may be doing tract work. If so, that should end shortly.
Until then I too would recommend getting off at the stop after Cortelyou Rd. and walking from there.

By the way, it's not only safer but also shorter.

Hope that helps.

Best wishes,
Mel

This apartment has everything one needs, and more, even if at first sight it does not seem to.
Space to park and near the subway, on a quiet tree-lined street near a strip of restaurants and stores, possibility to cook and to do laundry, and so on. The subway runs behind the house but one stops hearing it after about 10 minutes: no problem sleeping.

It's a basement in a big old house, with that funky smell of American old houses that might be annoying to some: that is its only drawback. A basement appears to be pretty much the only type of apartment one can rent short term in NYC with children under 10, for some rule about window safety.
There is also access to a well furnished artsy back garden for relax. For a few days visit, it's just great if you are not looking absolutely for something brand new in Midtown.

Moreover Mel, the owner is really kind and helpful, making sure there's food when guests arrive, even baby food for us. Overall, a great deal

Great owner, great location near subway and restaurants. Tall renters beware, basement flat has low ceilings and beams--duck!--watch your head!

Comfortable with a well rounded amount of amenities. Lighting in the bathroom could be a bit better - pretty dark in the shower!

Owner was great - very accommodating and willing to offer details on the neighborhood etc.

Very close to the train which is a big plus from a transportation standpoint. Lot's of great restaurants and shopping within a couple minute walk from the apartment.

Thanks for the nice review. The shower is dark. I've tried putting a battery-operated light nearby, but it still leaves the shower kinda dark. I am working on it.

The pictures of the accommodation should be updated. The current state is different from the pictures. The accommodation is in the basement, that should also be mentioned. The owner is very kind and helpful. The owner could hire a cleaning lady and charge a fee for a final cleaning, then it would be clean.

Except for looking much larger in the photos, the studio is exactly as shown. Absolutely no different. The studio is always cleaned before each new client: sheets and towels changed, and bathroom cleaned with bleach.

Vacation rental located in Brooklyn, it's a choice we made and we do not regret it. 30 minutes away from Manhattan with the subway, it is not a disadvantage and it reflects on the price of the rent.

The street is very quiet and you can hardly hear the subway less than a minute away on foot and it's not inconvenient in the least. In other words a very pleasant place to rest and get ready for another day walking around Manhattan.

Last but not least the owner is an absolutely charming man who had done some grocery shopping for us in case we were tired upon arrival. But his kindness doesn't stop there.

Nothing but positive things during this unforgettable stay.

An ideal vacation rental for those traveling on a small budget, with an owner who was simply exquisite (welcoming, understanding and nice) and who prepared some food and drink to welcome us.

Very close (a little too close maybe?) to a subway station from which we could sometimes hear a low noise, it's very convenient, even though the line isn't one of the main ones going through Brooklyn.

The comfort was decent (for the price you can't hope for a palace either), despite a bathroom that was a little small (the shower is too low for anyone over 6 feet) and the apartment being located at basement level. But to be perfectly honest all that matters when you're in New York is to have a bed to sleep in.In any case, we will most likely come back!

W. and friend were perfect guests. They were polite, clean, and seemed to have a wonderful time. They left the studio clean , with used sheets and towels set aside. Hope to have more like them.

Very welcoming owner - when we arrived, we found some shopping he'd done so we could have a meal straight away - decent vacation rental for a short stay, its location on basement level not very comfortable - we did like the location in a traditional house in a quiet, residential area where we could rest from NY bustle - the subway really close to the house is a plus, the noise from it is not a nuisance

- to be improved: cleanliness/cleaning and check the photos and the floorplan which are not up-to-date - the value for money is its main asset.

the owner was grateful for these comments and will be sure to speak with the cleaners to ensure that the apartment is thoroughly cleaned and prepared prior to the start of each rental.

The owner verified that the pictures and floorplan on our website are accurate.

We had a very good time!!! The owner really is a very nice and helpful person. The accommodation is as described; the location is ideal, the neighborhood is lovely, very quiet and very close to the subway. Manhattan is only 20 minutes away by subway.

Highly recommended ++++++

Lovely couple. Got them passes to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. They loved NYC, the apartment, and perhaps everything less the rain. They left the studio in wonderful condition. Very nice experience.

We were happy with this vacation rental even if it's noisy at night (trains run closeby).

The owner was a gem: as we were stuck with the hurricane Irene, he offered us to stay as long as we needed until we could get our plane (at no extra charge!). He opened his own apartment for us so we could phone and check the Internet!

Well, due to the hurricane, they're still here, as my guests. Actually, they are both quite lovely and pre-hurricane, they seemed to have had a wonderful time.

They will probably be able to leave by Tuesday which gives me plenty of time to prepare the studio for my next guest on Thursday.

If they still can't get out, I'll invite them upstairs to my guest room .At some point in life we all depend on the kindness of strangers

The apartment is located very close to a subway station, which is very practical for visiting New York and the surroundings. On the other hand, we could hear the trains at night but it didn't prevent us to sleep. The rent is also very interesting.

The owner is very friendly and trustworthy. For instance, he bought us some food when we arrived, and when we left he offered us to stay in his living room while waiting for the taxi.

Just two remarks : the mattress of the sofa is getting old and the decoration of the apartment could be improved.

A delightful family consisting of dad and two teen daughters. Expressed comfort with accommodations and delight with the neighborhood.

I was able to secure free admission to MOMA and the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, both of which they thoroughly enjoyed. They left the studio in excellent condition and would love to host them

The vacation rental was perfect for this week's holiday, as it is away from Manhattan we could 'breathe', especially the kids, thanks to the garden.

The owner was really nice, he waited for us the evening we arrived and had done some shopping for us. Besides we could use the washing machine and the dryer.

My host was very kind. When I had questions, he was always very helpful.
I found the area in which the accommodation is located to be very pleasantly quiet and green. Since the house is right next to the subway, I had to get used to the noise level first. But then it was fine.
The shower took a little getting used to because the water pipes got hot very quickly and I always burned my hand when I turned it on. It would also be good to change the shower curtain.
I really enjoyed my stay there - it was a nice size and very comfortable.

Excellent place to stay while visiting New York. Unique, beautiful and quiet neighbourhood. Location is good, doesn't thake long to Manhattan via subway. The host is very friendly, thrustworthy and helpful. Very cheap and nice way to stay in New York!

Also New York Habitat was excellent. We reserved the place just two days before arriving, and it worked out perfect! Thanks!

The owner was very kind and we really felt welcome. We sincerely appreciated that he'd made some light shopping so we cold have a snack when we got to the apartment as it was late in the evening. A bunch of flowers and a bottle of red wine made us feel special. Sadly, I did not think that the studio was clean (kitchen and bathroom sink, carpet, shower, toilet). Some pieces of furniture were fallen apart (draw in kitchen). I honestly think the studio needs some light make over. I appreciate the rent was cheap in comparison with accomodation in other parts of New York and I had no problm with being in Brooklyn, but I do not believe that cleanliness has anything to do with the price.

We are really very happy with our experience through your service.
The website and the person in charge of our rental were very efficient. The description matched what we rented.

Our host is a welcoming and absolutely charming person. We were delighted to meet him. Since our return we have recommended your site as well as the accommodation to a number of people we know.

Just one comment: we should be able to ask to hold the apartment before finalizing a deal.

In the case a client needs a little time to make a final decision on booking an apartment they are interested in, owners may accept to hold the apartment's availability for 48 hours.

We really did appreciate New York Habitat service (efficiency, speed, reliability) as well as the studio apartment that we rented: it was as described, the neighborhood was very nice with subway, stores and restaurants very near.

Moreover, we were delighted with the owner's welcome: he kindly had done some shopping for our first night so we wouldn't have to go out because he thought we would be tired from our trip. He was available throughout our stay. At the end of the week, as we were unsure we'd be able to leave because of the volcano eruption, he offered we stay until we catch a flight, at no additional cost. We were deeply touched by this offer.

In short, we are very happy and will not fail to recommend you to our friends and relatives who want to go to New York!
