Description
1 Bedroom Vacation Rental in Harlem (NY-14252)
1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom - Sleeps

This one bedroom vacation rental apartment for rent is nestled in Manhattan’s Uptown community of Harlem, New York. Located on Fifth Avenue & 124th Street, this fully furnished apartment sits on the 3rd floor of a four-story walk up 19th century brownstone building. It is perfectly suited for budget travelers who need a convenient place to stay.

The entrance to this home provides access to the living room, lined with hardwood floors and boasting two large windows overlooking 5th Avenue. Having been built during the pre-war era, this room continues to emit a kind of old-world charm with its relaxing decorative fireplace set against one wall. Ample table space is available to accommodate workloads, recreational activities, and meal space. One twin-sized chair bed and one twin-sized sofa bed accommodate overnight guests. Fresh sheets are included for these beddings. For indoor entertainment, a cable television is available. For added personality, pictures scatter white walls lined with wood trimming.

Attached to the living room is an open kitchen. To one side of this corridor, generous closet space is available for item storage. The kitchen features tiled flooring and wooden cabinets. It is equipped with most necessary cooking appliances including a microwave, fridge, freezer, oven/stove, and coffeemaker.

The bedroom offers a queen sized bed with fresh sheets. Two windows allow for natural lighting and ventilation, while an overhead fan with lamp provides additional illumination. Abundant surface space including a nightstand and desk accommodate completion of workloads and recreational activities. A chair sits next to the bed offering additional seating space, facing a second decorative fireplace.

Please note: This building is located at a busy 5th Avenue intersection. As such, street noise may be heard throughout the day and night. During the month of November, the NYC Marathon passes right in front of the building.

The apartment is quite simple, but clean, convenient and well located. The owner is nice, very insteresting, open to others and available.
Two little downsides: the second bed isn't comfortable and the district is quite noisy with a lot of police sirens, even during the night.

Flavien, thanks for taking the time to write this review. The neighborhood is busy all the time as is all of Manhattan. The bustling is often what draws people here. I haven't had many complaints about the two extra beds but will take a look to see if it can or should be upgraded. Again, thanks , and hope to see you again

Dear Flavien,
It was a pleasure serving you. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback and being so open with us.
We are glad you felt that apartment has great location, was clean, convenient and you had an overall good experience during the stay.
We are sorry to hear about your concern about the noise. As explained on the apartment page, this building is located at a busy 5th Avenue intersection. As such, street noise may be heard throughout the day and night.
Our company values putting client satisfaction as top priority and we are committed to our clients. It is clients like you that make our job wonderful. We look forward to serving you again and making your next apartment booking experience more delightful with NEW YORK HABITAT.
Thank You!

We had a perfectly comfortable 9-day stay in this apartment with my family. The only drawback was the traffic noise day and night.
The building was quiet, very well-located as we could easily reach the subway. Convenience stores are just nearby, which is very useful for grocery shopping. This is a very lively area, which shows the eclectic side of Harlem.
The host is very kind and helped us out when we left as we had some issues with the taxi reservation. He did everything he could so that we were well settled with our 3 children.

Nancy thanks for your comment:
The apartment faces the front and the back, with the bedroom in the back, on world famous Fifth Avenue. Its great to be in the middle of the city but it comes with the inconvenience and blessing of being busy. I do know and very comfortable with saying you had a wonderful stay. I hope to see you soon

Located not far from 2 subway stations and close to a very convenient bus line. Very nicely welcomed by the owner who is very receptive and kind.
The apartment is spacious and pleasant, air conditioning was a relief after walking and sightseeing all day!
However, it would benefit from a bit of refreshing and the kitchen would need to be more functional... Some utensils are missing, crockery is incomplete...
The two stories (corresponding to 3 in France) are quite hard so it really should be indicated for disabled people or parents with young kids.
On the whole, we were satisfied by our stay in this apartment.

Sabine, thank you for the review. Now, I know that someone perhaps have broken a dish or lost a utensil. Whatever the case maybe I can now replenish the kitchen things. Thanks for alerting future guest that this apartment is not on the ground floor. Everything in New York is vertical, but I will make sure the listing reflect what floor it is located. I am glad you were overall satisfied with your stay here and in New York.

We stayed 11 nights in this apartment located in Harlem. We are a couple with a teenager. It was perfect as a drop-off point after the busy days visiting the city. The apartment is spacious, with lots of storage space. Quite unbeatable value for money for New York. The air conditioning is good in summer. The small but functional kitchen allowed us to have our breakfasts on site, which is nice compared to a hotel. The bedding is really very comfortable (even the sofa bed in the living room). The bathroom has been recently renovated. The building itself is a little old, but it has a lot of charm.
At for the neighborhood, it's pretty lively but it's part of New York. We never felt insecure. The apartment being located on the second floor, it is rather quiet and very bright.
The owner is charming, he gave us the information we needed and on the last day he let us enjoy the apartment until the time we had to leave to take our flight as there was no tenant right after us.
In short, we are delighted with our stay!

It was a good value for money, close to the subway (even if it was far from the center but it was not an issue for us) and near a big supermarket which enabled us to cook in the morning and at night (which is no small matter).
The apartment is spacious, with 2 distinct bedrooms. A bit old with the associated charm and disadvantages.
Cleanliness: correct but nothing to add.
Our host welcomed us very nicely on a Sunday afternoon, even though we were late. He was waiting for us, gave us all the necessary information to live in the apartment and answered our questions about NYC.

Very pleasant and well-located apartment, very clean. Bathroom is spacious and the bedroom looks out onto the inner courtyard so it is not too noisy.
No air conditioning but it was not annoying despite the heat (there are ceiling fans).
Very nicely welcomed.
Subway is nearby, bus stand down the building. Be aware that the apartment is not on the lower floor (steep stairs), which could be an issue for people with disabilities.
One last thing: no coffee maker (ony a small Italian coffee maker which is broken).

We had a very good stay in this apartment. It is well-located, pleasant, spacious, functional, and has very good bedding. Cutlery is not complete (teaspoons are especially missing). Heating was too high sometimes. The water in the shower was a bit tricky to adjust from time to time.
The apartment was particularly well-located for the marathon on November 4.

Sylvain, thank you for taking the time to write and alert me the several issues you talked about in the review. I guess some cutlery have gotten lost along the way, I dont know how but will take care of it. With the heat you never know from one guest to the other the right temperature. But had you said something I would have told you how to turn it down. The hot water is single lever and you have to find the right balance, I hope you eventually did and everything was ok. Thanks for sharing these thoughts and I am very glad you enjoyed the Marathon.

The apartment was conveniently located near subway and bus stations, as well as Whole Foods and CVS. It was very spacious and had lots of places to spread out all our luggage and the many things that we purchased. The internal stairs are narrow and twisting, which added to the charm of the building, but one should be prepared when they pack, that bringing 2 smaller suitcases is better than 1 large one. We felt as safe walking around that area as we did in any other part of New York.

Quiet area with minimal noise at night except for frequent emergency services passing in the street (police, firefighters, ambulances).

We stayed in this apartment during the holiday season, for 10 days. It was bigger than we thought! Very well-equipped and heated (it was - 10 degrees Celsius outside). Close to subway station which serves Manhattan. There was a bus stand just in front of the building...
We felt safe in this area! We read that it was noisy, it certainly was in the living room because of the firefighter and policemen sirens but the bedroom is on the other side of the apartment and overlooks a dead end, so we didn't hear anything!
In short, this vacation rental is really great and the owner is adorable!

We stayed in this apartment for one week in December 2017 and it was beyond our expectations. The apartment is located on the third floor(second floor in European standards), no elevator, the stairway is rather narrow and steep (keep this in mind when you put things in your suitcase). Upon our arrival, the apartment was spotless, warm, bright, furnished with what was listed on NyHabitat site. The bed met our taste: tall and hard, memory-foam style, so did the pillows. We had plenty of towels in the bathroom, shower was good. The kitchen is small, however fully equipped with sink, stove, oven, microwave oven, fridge, coffee maker, flatware for a couple of persons (it was enough for us). Great value to the giant MTA metro + bus maps in the living room: they help a lot in planning your day before going out. The neighborhood is what you expect from Harlem: busy during the day, quieter at night (except for the ER which drove near us every night...I think we were close to a hospital). A couple of grocery stores around the corner, pharmacy, 2-3 trains and 4-5-6 trains at a few blocks, M1 bus outside our doorsteps.
The landlord and his wife are amazing, they have been very kind to us upon arrival and on our departure day, and I am sure they would have helped us in case we needed them during our stay.
If I have to look for a needle in the haystack, please replace the lock on the apartment door. We had a little trouble at the beginning, since we couldn't open it gently (we had to pull the door fiercely).

Jan 09 2018

Elena, thanks for taking the time to write this wonderful review. I dont't think I could have written it better and you are absolutely right, we would have helped with any request you had if you had asked. The walkup has not been a real issue for anyone that has stayed here before. sometimes when their bags are too heavy its a bother but once it is upstairs it is usually ok. The door lock is simple, as you found out, just turn the key and slight push. I do wish you had mentioned it the several times we saw each other. The sirens are very much a part of New York. The bedroom is in the rear but if there is someone in the front you will probably here a sirene every now and then. That is the slight tradeoff for being in the center of it all, but everyone seems to make it through it all with no unsurmountable problem.

The apartment is as shown in the pictures. It is near 125 Avenue, where you can find supermarkets and shops, and 2 blocks away from the main train and bus stations. The apartment is on the second floor, in a walk-up building, so it is a bit hard to go up the stairs with big and heavy bags, although it was not a problem for us. The check-in and the check-out were pretty easy with Kevin, he was always available for us. The unit is big and comfortable, it has all the necessary things to live pleasantly. The bed is comfortable and the bathroom is spacious. Note that water takes a while to heat and then it is really hot. The building is an original brownstone house... Kevin does a very good maintenance of the apartment.

The apartment is well-located, at the beginning of Harlem area, close to subway and in front of a bus stop. It is very quiet and comfortable. Good bedding, clean sheets and towels: no problem. However, we would have liked it to be better cleaned: there were some used tissues under the bed and garbage cans were not emptied for instance. Anyway, we will have very good memories of our stay in New York.

The disadvantage is that there is no elevator and the stairs are narrow. It is quite tiring if you get back home at night and you have to go up 3 floors with a kid in your arms.
The pots and the bath towels would need to be renewed.

My host, Kevin, was very welcoming and easy with arrival and departure times. Super friendly and informative about getting around and a few things to do. No complaints about Kevin. Unfortunately there were a few key issues with the apartment. It was dirty. Kitchen in particular was filthy (Fridge interior was clean). It was a lot shabbier than the photos, especially for the price. The TV did not work at all. I had asked ahead about a blowdryer and there were two on site but one had a european plug so not usable and the second did not work and was sticky to handle. Bedding was very shabby and minimal. Pillows were old, compressed and lumpy. They all smelled clean thankfully. Towels, too, were clean but all mismatched and some very worn (I only used one towel, one cloth and one hand towel). Bathroom was clean enough. Dishes were mismatched and old. I did not cook during my stay but used the kettle a couple of times and the fridge and a couple of dishes. But the stove and walls were all splattered and sticky from prior guests. I wasn't expecting quiet so while loud at times, I can't complain that that was unexpected. The location for a tourist is OK but a bit sketchy along 125th. 125th down was great. Recommendations: THOROUGH cleaning prior to each guest. replace all bedding (for the spare beds too as it looked really old) with sheets, pillows, duvet with washable cover. Simple kitchen set up with dishes, flatware, cooking utensils etc and nice towels/dishcloths. Papertowels and extra garbage bags on hand (there were none of either). I did appreciate the space and location for my needs (I was in a course close by) but would not return to that apartment. I like Kevin though.

Answer by: Accommodation Owner
Nov 01 2016

Colleen, I am a little disappointed that although you found me to be friendly and helpful you could not mention any of these things to me while you were here. Had you done so you would have seen my quick response to address all your needs. I checked the Hairdryer after reading your comment and found it to be in working order and wiped it. I told you the TV was not working and I was waiting for the cable to come fix it. I had only notice it the day before you arrived. Most people do not watch TV and no one ever told me that it did not work. Now, the cable box has been replaced and it is all in working order. I am extremely disappointed that you found the place to be dirty/ filthy especially to the degree you say. Utensils and dishes started off as sets and maybe one was broken along the way and individually replaced. I just don't understand about the words shabby and minimal. all sheets and bedding are of good quality and washed regularly. Surely, the pillows didn't stink because they are washed regularly. However, just to let you know I took your suggestion and replaced all pillows to make sure the fluff is present.

I am very disappointed in your displeasure with your stay. Although you were alone, often there are up to five guests staying in that unit and it does take a licking. That is no excuse for lack of cleaning but thank you for your very critical review. We will try to keep up better with the upkeep. Thank you

Anna, thanks for your review and I will pay special attention to it. New York is not necessarily a quiet place anywhere but I hope and it soulnds like it was not that much of a burden. NY is alive especially in the Summer and my building sits right in the middle of the city. Hope to see you again.

we stayed for almost 2 weeks in the apartment in Harlem (with a 3 year old child) and really enjoyed our trip there. at the first glance, the neighborhood looked a bit scary but it we always felt safe there and did not experience any uncomfortable situation! the apartment is very close to 2 main subway stations (without elevator access by the time!) and a downtown bus route stops right at the door front (good to go to the central park). a public swimming pool and playgrounds are around the corner. shopping and dining is limited within walking distance, so you have to plan a bit.
the apartment itself fits right into Harlem, a bit worn, not too fancy (a new table and chairs would be great!), but everything works fine and everything you need is there. it surely is a bit noisy with A/C on or window open, but you're in NY and it wasn't really a problem for us or the little one! managing to check in and out was really easy and Kevin is a very nice guy and gave good advice to get around and what to do during the stay. be aware that you will always need to plan for some travel time to any downtown destination as there is not too much to explore in the area [riding the metro for half an hour and more one way gets a bit boring after a week (^_^)].
we can certainly recommend that place and would take it again, the next time we're in the city. we have been scanning the market a bit and early in time and I'm still convinced that this a good offer and value for the money!

Stefan thanks for taking the time to write this review. I am glad that overall you found your stay here a pleasant one. Just two blocks over is what is known as restaurant row with plenty of options. The new table you suggested was delivered shortly after you left. Otherwise, I try to keep everything clean and sturdy because of the constant flow of guests the unit does take a beating.
Traveling downtown (Eastside 3 stops to 42 street and Westside 5 stops) or being downtown and have to travel uptown or Brooklyn all requires a few minutes. The beauty of my location is the transportation #2and 3 subway is one block, 4,5 &6 is three block walk and the A,C, D and B are 4 blocks away. In addition, there are about 6 bus routes all within 2 blocks. Basically, whereever you are in the city the transportation can get you here and you can get to about everywhere directly.

Thanks for your visit and I do hope to see you again.

Very nice apartment. Ideal location in Harlem. Next to supermarkets and transportation. Quiet and pleasant. Owner was flexible about our departure time. Kitchen was very well equipped.
To be improved: the blinds do not prevent the light from coming in, it is a shame. Getting hot water is complicated.

Overall, we are happy with our stay in this apartment. It was well located and the owner was available. We have not been bothered by the noise in our bedroom but the other one was very noisy. Well heated and well equipped apartment. Cleaning was superficial. Trash can was not emptied and fridge was dirty... Walls should be repainted.

Sonia, thanks for taking the time. I will check and do some painting as needed. As you can probably imagine guest handlinging their luggage can always bump into walls. I cannot imagine the trash can was not emptied but if you said it wasn't that is it. I apologize for that and will always make sure that it is. As the issue with the refrigerator I usually check and clean and empty as needed. Again, thanks for your reply and I will check and make sure I inform those that do the house keeping.

Béatrice, I am sorry that the stairs were a problem for you, but it is clearly advertised on my apartment page that this is a walk-up apartment. The pictures are only a few months old and the apartment is exactly as the pictures show.
And rather than having the two guests you originally booked, there were three, and no one wanted to pay as was arranged with the agency. The agreement is made with the agency and should be kept.

We had the opportunity to watch the Marathon from the starting to the end right infront of the build. Sounds like great fun. Enny thanks for taking time to write the review and I am glad you and your boy nhad a wonderful stay overall. As I explained to you and as you probably know toilet locks are to keep others from coming in when occupied Your boy locked the door then closed the door when leaving the bathroom. What he did was kept anyone else from entering and using the toilet. You had been in the place for nearly a week without a problem and I really dont think this should have been a problem for a child about 12 -14 years old. Again I am glad you had a great trip.

The apartment is well located, quite close to 2 subway lines. On the other hand, it is difficult to park for several days with parking rules that change from one day to the next. We also found a private parking space that still cost $26 per day, to fit in the budget.
The apartment is in a old character building with beautiful parquet floor. It is very bright, a bit noisy indeed because of the street (it overlooks 5th avenue), but we knew this before and it was bearable. The bed is very comfortable and our 3 children slept well on the extra beds.
We were welcomed by the host's daughter, she was very nice. It is a pity the floors were not very clean and there weren't enough flatware and top sheets (and globally, there isn't much dishware), but we managed (we could also have told him). It also lacked a toaster.
But on the whole, regarding value for the money, we were very pleased.

Thanks for your review, Pascale. Some guest park on the street and some in the various parking lots in the neighborhood. The choice is the guest. If it is parked at the right time, that i usually help them with they can stay parked for probably 3 days without having to move it. A little noise comes with being in the center of things. However, I do think it is bearable. I have to check and make sure that there is at least 5 sets of flatware (the maximum amount allowed for this unit.) I will also make sure that the top sheets are available, the top sheets were probably in the laundry. Yes, you could have mentioned all of this and it would have been taken care of immediately. But I am glad you did enjoy yourself. The apartment is usually cleaned and mopped prior to all arrivals. I will check and recheck in the future to make sure that the apartment is thoroughly cleaned. See you next time.

We did enjoy our first time in New York and we were very pleased with the apartment. I booked this apartment on recommendation of my sister. She stayed in the same building as us a couple of years ago. Her review made us chose for the same building.

We had the apartment on the second floor and we were absolutely pleased with it. The apartment was very spacious, we had a nice living room, a fully equipped kitchen, a big bedroom and a clean bathroom. We had the possibility to cook our own dishes and to make our own breakfast which was a big plus for us.

Our landlord Kevin was such a nice person. He helped us with everything we needed and gave us some great tips about must see attractions and how to get to the nice in different ways. He made us feel at home abroad.

The apartment is well situated in New York with a bus stop in front of the house and 2 metro stations at walking distance. Every day we got to different parts of New York using public transport nearby.

The apartment was clean upon arrival.

The apartment was in a good condition, we had everything we needed to spent a nice holiday in New York. The air conditioning was working well (we needed it because of the hot weather) and the fans were much appreciated during the night.

We only had a problem with finding the right temperature in the shower. Mostly it got ice cold are very hot. We struggled with it the whole week.

The house was in a good condition, only the smoke alarm dock needed a new battery. It beeped constantly and this was sometimes a bit annoying.

At night some traffic and street noises entered the room. Since it was so hot outside we had to open the windows for some fresh air. The pond noises at the back side were relaxing though :).

In general we were very happy with the apartment. We'll certainly recommend this place and will book it the next time we're travelling to New York!

Answer by: Accommodation Owner
Feb 24 2014

Thanks for your time and words in this review. I wish you would have told me about the smoke detector battery and the problems with the water.

The problems with both could have probably been remedied easily. The batteries on the smoke detector have since been changed and I will attempt to show future guests how to operate the single handle shower body. As for people walking by, traffic and other noise on fifth avenue, it is not in my control, especially if the windows are open. You always have the option of closing the windows and running the a/c.

However, overall, I am glad that you discovered the convenience of transportation, spacious, clean and comfortable accommodation, and the central locations of my home.

I am most glad that you and your sister before enjoyed yourselves in this wonderful city that I so much love.

Very kind host. The room is spacious, clean and well appointed. It just lacked a toaster, but the oven made up for it. The kitchen, the fridge and the bathroom are in very good condition and very clean.

The location is fine for the price. The noise level in the bedroom is livable. Unfortunately, the window on the street side doesn't shut in a "soundproof" way because of the built-in A/C unit. However, this is typically American so it can only partly be faulted.

Overall, we had a very nice stay in New York and the big and beautiful accommodation certainly played its part.

Oct 29 2013

Thanks Thomas and I am very glad you enjoyed your stay. You are right that the way the air condition sits in the window it allows some noise to filter through, but that is the trade off.

Toasters have been a problem keeping up with crumbs in the past so I elected not to include one. I am glad to know that you knew to just toast it in the oven.

Emmanuelle, thanks for your response about the wifi connection being slow. I have installed an Extender and hopefully this will help in the connection and the speed for future guest and your return.

Harlem is generally relatively safe in the daytime and evenings, but as all of New York and most other places the later it gets walking on the main streets are always recommended. No guest in the last 3 years has had a problem in Harlem coming and going, that they have not had in the other parts of the city.

But at this point nightlife in Harlem is thriving and people are out all over the place, especially one block away.

Thank you -Kevin

The apartment is well furnished with all of the necessary equipment. It is also very well decorated and the bathroom is very well upgraded. I recommend when it gets past a certain hour for everyone to catch a cab to the front door. Coming from clubs or elsewhere 1, 2, 3 in the morning can be a little sketchy on 125th street as well as elsewhere.

However, the one block walk from the subway is generally no problem and has not been a problem for anyone up until this point. I look forward to your return.

Clean and serene is how it felt to stay here, especially after I put away several folding chairs into the closet. The bed was just heavenly to sleep in, and the quirky bathroom sink was a very fun design touch.

Kevin was attentive and helpful, also knowledgeable about the sights to see. And Marcus Garvey Park is just across the street -- a beautiful place.

Warm welcome. Vacation rental in a good location fairly near midtown by bus and subway. The extra beds though are a bit small for tall adults. Nevertheless, good quality for the money.

Light sleepers might feel less comfortable sleeping on the side of 5th avenue - noisier.

Answer by: Accommodation Owner
Aug 26 2013

Thank you Sylvie, these are not regular beds but sleeping accommodations that consist in an armchair bed, a sofa that can serve as a bed, and an air mattress. I believe the beds are standard size.

Fifth avenue is one of the busiest streets in NY with some traffic all day. However, the bedroom is in the back where the only noise is my neighbor's wonderful Coy Pond.

I very much enjoyed my stay here. Although I only spoke to the owner over the phone, I found him to be helpful and courteous. The area itself is fine. A typical busy, urban area. A little seedy at night perhaps but just be aware of your surroundings just as you would in any other area. I had no problems with safety and felt comfortable.

There are several department stores and places such as Applebees to eat that are in close proximity. Transportation was also a huge plus. The 2/3 line is just two blocks away while the 4/5 line is just 4 or 5 blocks away. The M60 bus which goes straight to La Guardia was right in front of the building. You cannot beat that!

The apartment itself was pretty good size. It was well kept and cozy and had sufficient amenities.

Our stay in NYC went very smoothly. The apartment is awesome! Clean, welcoming, bright, well equipped, in short, nothing to complain about. On top of that, the owner is sweet... attentive, always there for tips and info. A real delight!

As regards the location in Manhattan... it can be a little 'worrying' as it is off centered from downtown. But here again, no problem, public transportation is 'at your fingertips': one subway station is located one block to the west and another one 3 blocks eastwards from the apartment, and even better, the bus goes right past the building and takes you directly to 5th Avenue, right in the heart of the Big Apple.

You can rent this apartment in a heartbeat. As for me, I'll sure go back!!!

Welcoming and friendly owner. Spacious apartment, but isn't very comfortable. Worn furniture and not enough kitchen utensils for 4 people.

Answer by: Accommodation Owner
Sep 11 2012

The utensils were an issue before and I added more than enough for 5 people. I will check again and add as needed, enough for 5 people the maximum amount I rent to. Had the guest just mentioned this it could have been taken care of very easily. I often ask all guest if everything is ok and for whatever reason they never say anything.

I will add new chairs for the dining table, but other than that I think the furniture is adequate for the constant wear and tear. The more people in a place the less comfortable it is. I can add more furniture but it will cut down the space for more guest. Again, I will check when the present guest leave and update as much as I can with keeping in mind that I rent to up to 5 guest.

Thank you for your feedback. We have taken your comments into account and shared them with the owner with the purpose of improving our services going forward.

The owner said that the air conditioners don't make any more noise than any average AC unit, and that if the apartment does get warm, guests can turn all of the AC's, as there is one in every room.

We would also like to add that when compared to the regular bed in the bedroom, the convertible bed, sofabed, and aero-bed in the living room are less comfortable, because these three are indeed intended as short-term sleeping solutions only.

The host M. Kevin welcomed us very warmly and also gave us useful tips for our stay.

Our accommodation, located in Harlem, although a little far from the center of Manhattan is in an ideal location for transportation: there is a bus line in front the building that goes along fifth avenue down to south Manhattan, and a little further in both directions there are two subway lines with quick commute to the east and the west of the island.

Hard to beat! And also, an apartment rental is more "personal" than staying in a hotel room, you can go back home whenever you feel like it, have dinner there rather than have to go the restaurant etc... the only downside is connected to the city itself and is the noise.

Hey, yes, New York, the city that never sleeps, is noisy! With the traffic noise, the noise from the locals (Harlem is a lively neighborhood!), the blaring sirens from the fire engines, the ambulances and the police cars (which are even more impressive in the middle of the buildings in Manhattan as the noise reverberates against the walls, you just can't not notice them!), and with the noise coming from our apartment surroundings (a fountain in a backyard just below our window, or the so convenient bus stop which sometimes becomes a bit annoying in the evening or in the morning when the bus actuator and alarm device are activated to put the bus at curb level...)

Yes, New York is noisy, but you get used to it. And being tired helped us sleep...

From the point of view of tourists in New York for two week, it is a welcoming city where you don't feel unsafe (forget your prejudice about Harlem whilst keeping your basic common sense and everything will go smoothly!)

In short, we were happy with our stay and with the apartment itself.

The bedroom looks over a very quiet inner yard, but the extra beds are in the sitting room looking over the street where there's much more traffic. Downtown is easy to reach with the 2 subway stations you can choose from. The bars in Harlem with live music are great.

The apartment is located in Harlem. A wonderful starting point to reach the subway an to go anywhere in Manhattan. We used the bedroom for one person and the bed in the living room for the other person - that was OK.

The owner of the appartment is very helpful. He can give many tips to tourists concerning the highlights in Manhattan and also concerning the subway and the buses and the airtrain. Just 200 meters away there is a small supermarket - very comfortable for buying food and beverages.

The cleanliness of the kitchen equipment could better. And the fittings of bath and shower are a little bit complicated. It was not easy to get warm water - but after a while it works. Don?t stop trying.

All in all it was a good price-performance ratio.

Two of us stayed for two weeks in late Sept/early Oct. Landlord's relaxed, laid back style contributed to a wonderful holiday. Take his advice and visit The Highline & The Shrine - well worth it. Apartment was comfortable, spacious and well appointed (the only thing we'd suggest is a little extra cooking cutlery). Location was great, the bus stopping right outside the door & subways a short walk to either the east or west.

Large supermarket within 5 mins, great smaller deli with lots of organic products just around the corner, and our favourite mid-size deli, 'Best Yet', about 15mins walk on Frederick Douglas Blvd. Apartment felt secure, and location of bedroom at back where it was quieter meant sleeping wasn't a problem. Overall we felt it was good value for money and would recommend it to others.

Little downside, in my opinion, the 2nd sofa bed in the living room is too small and uncomfortable to be used as a bed (if there are 4 people). Otherwise, bathroom, kitchen, bedroom and living room are as described by NYH and as expected. Recommended for 3.

My friend and myself liked the flat you rented to us. This vacation rental was well situated in Harlem with a lot of buses, subways and stores. Really pleasant to live. Our owner was a very nice man and gave us some advice to visit NYC.

However, I should want to tell you little things about the flat :
- When you arrived, the flat was not very clean (some dust) and we discovered things in the cupboard of the bathroom (old cottons not used and other things former lodgers left).
- in the kitchen, some kitchen utensils lacked: for instance, more glasses, plates, saucepans. We had one frying pan which was out and we couldn't use it.

However it was really great to live here. I thank you for all.

The apartment owner stated that in regard to the cleanliness, it may have been a dusting oversight on his part in between rentals, but will be sure that each area is touched upon between each rental.
