Description - New York Furnished Accommodation (NY-8429) See this page in   Français   Deutsch   Español   Italiano
One bedroom duplex in the West Village
Location: New York City, Greenwich Village, 14th Street between 7th Avenue and 8th Avenue.

Size: 1 bedroom, 1 Bath, Sleeps 4.

Building: Located on the west end of 14th Street, at the top of the West Village. The recently established social hub of the meat-packing district is one block west, with all its new restaurants, galleries, clothing and furniture stores. The apartment is a duplex on the 5th-6th floors in a walk-up building, facing 14th Street; with a double-locked lobby and a buzzer activated door. The building was built in the 1950¹s and had a full renovation in the late 1980¹s.

Interior: The first level has the kitchen and bathroom off the entrance foyer and two steps up lead to the living room, with two windows facing north, providing great light. The kitchen has a half wall that opens to the living room, with a dining counter shared by the two spaces. A stairway leads from the living room to the upstairs bedroom. All rooms are furnished with contemporary furniture in cherry wood and aluminum; the floors are wood or covered with wall-to-wall wool carpeting. The bedroom has a full double aluminum frame bed and the living room has a queen-size sleeper sofa. The living room has a full wall/entertainment unit with a flat screen TV, VCR and a music system. In addition, the unit has a clothing storage system. There is high speed Internet access.

The kitchen has a full refrigerator and stove, and a microwave oven. It also has a coffee maker and is fully equipped for cooking. The half-wall between the kitchen and the living room is a butcher block dining counter.

The cocktail table in the living room may be raised in height and opened to become a dining table that seats six. Chairs to match the dining table are stacked next to the wall unit.

The bedroom has a full double bed, a velvet seating cube and a long, low cubist unit (the same furniture style as the living room wall unit) with two drawers, a cabinet and two shelves. Sliding glass doors lead from the bedroom to the outdoor deck. Deck lounge chairs and a cafe table (not shown in the photo as they are stored in winter) are provided for the apartment dwellers use. Please note that the terrace is not completely private. The next door apartment uses the terrace as well.

The ceiling heights range from 8 to 9 feet throughout the apartment and there is a closet in the foyer, one upstairs in the bedroom, and two closets and numerous built-in drawers in the living room wall unit (see photo).

The apartment has artwork on the walls by the owners. There are two built-in air-conditioners, one on the first floor and one on the second floor. All towels and bed linens are provided.

Neighborhood: The entrance to the building is on 14th street. This neighborhood is located right on the border between Chelsea and the West Village.

Chelsea: Has recently developed into an extremely lively art gallery neighborhood to the west, which has spawned numerous restaurants. There are movie theaters, places for shopping and all conveniences along Eighth Avenue and further West. To the East, both Fifth and Sixth Avenues between Fourteenth and Twenty-third Street are lively shopping areas with a huge variety of clothing and specialty stores. A ten minute walk South puts you in the heart of Greenwich Village, while the same time to the North gets you to 34th Street and Madison Square Garden or Macy's. The Famous Chelsea Piers Sports Complex is a ten minute walk West on the Hudson River with health and fitness facilities (pool, gym, classes, rock climbing etc.) roller blading, two ice skating rinks, bowling alley, driving range and a wide variety of children's programs. There are endless things to do in this neighborhood and a wide variety of great restaurants.

West Village: Area where local residents, students and business professionals reside side by side and enjoy all that the neighborhood has to offer. With its rich history of bohemian artistic and cultural associations, this was the one-time home to Poe, James, Wharton, Twain, St. Vincent Millay, Dreiser, Auden, and O'Neill. This area is a tangle of streets, alleys, and hidden courts that sets this iconoclastic little neighborhood apart from Manhattan's monotonously rigid street grid. There are also many landmark buildings such as The Little School House, famous jazz clubs such as The Blue Note, S.O.Bs , the Village Vanguard, Bradley's,or Sweet Basil, and you can buy some of the best comestibles in town at Balducci's gourmet paradise at Sixth Avenue and Ninth Street. Coffee-lovers invariably congregate around that cluster of cafés at Bleecker and MacDougal, Washington Square Park world renown with its post hippies, students, artists and local characters, is within walking distance.

Others: 14th Street is the only downtown 2-way east west cross street and is rich with transportation options. On the corner of 7th avenue is the north-south 1, 2, 3, and 9 subway lines and the southbound #10 bus. On the corner of 8th avenue is the north south A, C and E or the cross-town L train to take you to central or East Side subway lines. It also has the northbound #10 bus. Taxis can be hailed any time day or night.

A perfect place to stay, nicely furnished, well equipped, and big enough to give four people a perfect place to "chill-out".
A perfect location with easy access to [all of] New York by different express subway stations just at the next crossroads. A perfect place to stay, nicely furnished, well equipped, and big enough to give four people a perfect place to "chill-out". Plus the roof terrace! Plus the very nice and helpful owners! Definitely recommended!

We are very happy with the apartment. The owners of the [vacation rental in New York] were very kind and it was a really good surprise for us that they knew Spanish. The vacation rental was in a very good place, clean and it was exactly what we saw on your website. Thank you very much. We hope to come back again!!!

Our experience is a positive one and I would recommend this apartment to people who want to experience the real New York
We have been quite satisfied with the apartment we rented on 14th St. While at first I didn't realize that it was a 6th floor walk-up, after the first day when we had to lug the suitcases upstairs, we found a charming, excellently appointed vacation rental ...and we did get used to the climb. The owners are charming and helpful, the location perfect, and the sleeper sofa the most comfortable I ever experienced.. Our experience is a positive one and I would recommend this apartment to people who want to experience the real New York

Our stay in the apartment was perfect, no difference between what was described/shown in photos on your website and the reality.
Our stay in the apartment was perfect, no difference between what was described/shown in photos on your website and the reality. The owners were really [nice]. The vacation rental was clean. The location ideal, near the metro to go up and downtown and east/west easily. The neighborhood [was] great. 100% satisfaction!
