Its charming cobblestone-paved streets, stairways, hidden gardens and vineyards are what make Montmartre in the 18th arrondissement an incredibly unique village within the city! Located less than 300 m (0.2 mile) away from its emblem, the Sacré Coeur Basilica, this three bedroom apartment is perfect for those who want all the benefits of living in a big city and still get a taste of traditional Paris with a village-like atmosphere! The apartment is situated on the 1st floor (considered the 2nd by Americans) of a 2-story walk-up building from the 18th century and equipped with a digicode for guests' entry.
This loft-like apartment has everything to make your stay enjoyable and make you feel like a real Parisian! While its ''homey'' feeling contrasts with the urban atmosphere of Paris, it has authentic features such as the exposed wooden beams, hardwood floors, fireplace and antique furniture give it a typical Paris charm. Another great feature of this apartment is its many windows and skylights that let light flood in from multiple directions,making it very bright! The 49 m² (530 sqf) living room has two sofas and plenty of armchairs, making it the perfect room to spend time with your family or friends. There is also a Bose Hi-Fi stereo system in here when you want to enjoy some music and the fireplace is functional for chilly winter evenings. Walk up a few stairs and there is a dining area with a dining table seating 6. Bedroom 1 is furnished with a double bed and bedroom 2 has a single and a child bed. The spiral staircase in bedroom 2 goes up to bedroom 3 furnished with a single bed and a TV. Please note that the ceilings are slanted on this top floor bedroom, so it is more appropriate for children as adults may not be able to stand upright. The bathroom has the advantage of having both a deluxe saps shower cabin and large round bathtub and the toilets are separate.
Hosting the best of Parisian art, culture and romance, Montmartre is the place that nurtured most of the great artists and writers living in France this past century, and the best way to discover this area is to lose yourself in its steep and cobbled streets. Here are some of the many places in the area:
- Square Louise Michel: located just around the corner from your apartment is this sqaure famous for its 222 steps leading up to the Basilica. As you are climbing, admire the panoramic views over Paris, the luxuriant vegetation and historical monuments. If you do not want to climb the staircase a small white "mini-train" will drive up the hill and wind through the narrow alleys!
- Abbesses: On the other side of the Square is the Abbesses area, a former artist enclave that has retain its friendly bohemian spirit. Check out the métro station Abbesses, whose art-nouveau style entrance make it the most photographed in Paris! The area also houses many hip stores and restaurants. The Moulin de la Galette restaurant on Rue Lepic was once frequented by the impressionists and the singer Dalida, and is ideal for a romantic dinner in a prestigious and historic setting!
- Montmartre Museum: for a taste of the old Montmartre, head 650 m (0.4 miles) to this museum that was home to famous artists and writers such as Renoir. The collections contains paintings, photographs that depict the history of the neighborhood.
For public transportation, you can take the M2 at the Anvers station. It will take you directly to the Place Charles De Gaulle sation, housing the famous Arc de Triomphe. Alternatively you can take the line 4 at Château Rouge that crosses Paris from north to south through the center.
