A charming one-bedroom apartment in the Marais area, close to Beaubourg
|
Neighborhood:
Just beside the Georges Pompidou Cultural Center, also known as Beaubourg, this street is close to Les Halles Mall. It is about a 10-minute walk to the Louvre and the adjoining Jardin des Tuileries, as well as to the Seine River with its unique islands -- Ile de la Cite and the delightful Ile Saint Louis. This area has preserved almost all of its pre-Revolutionary architecture. It is home to a substantial number of points of interest such as museums, art galleries, designer shops, and diverse, trendy bars and restaurants.
The street features the oldest house in Paris (built in 1407), the former residence of the alchemists Nicolas and Pernelle Flamel. There is a lovely restaurant on the premises where patrons can dine in the same rooms where these famous alchemists and philanthropists once did. The facade of the building is essentially as it was 600 years ago, but the restaurant inside is much more modern.
In addition to the French traditional and international restaurants and cafes, there are all sorts of facilities in the neighborhood.
Premises:
This 37m² (approx. 400 sq. ft.) one-bedroom apartment is located on the fifth and top floor of an 18th century walk-up building. The main entrance gate, protected by a coded security system, opens into a corridor leading to a second door with an intercom. This opens onto a paved courtyard and a staircase. This apartment has a lot of charm due to its slanted ceilings and exposed beams.
The entrance door opens into a small corridor with a skylight; this leads to the open kitchen and the living room. The 15m² (approx. 160 sq. ft.) living room has a small double-glazed window with exterior wooden shutters; it overlooks the street with a northern exposure. It is furnished with a double-size sofa bed, an armchair, a round dining table with chairs, bookshelves, and a decorative fireplace. It is equipped with a small cable flat screen TV, a phone and a high-speed Internet connection. Since this apartment is situated under the roof, the ceiling height varies between 1m (3.30 ft.) and 3.15m (10.30 ft.). The height under the doors is 1.80m (5.90 ft.).
The open kitchen has a window (south exposed) and is equipped with four induction plates, an oven, a refrigerator, a freezer, a microwave, a dishwasher, a kettle, a toaster and a coffee maker.
The bedroom 10m² (approx. 105 sq. ft.) is accessible through the living area via a sliding door. It has a double-glazed window with exterior wooden shutters that overlooks the street. It is furnished with two single-size beds that can be turned into a queen-size bed, two bedside tables, a cable TV and a chair. There is also a narrow walk-in closet with wardrobes and shelves hidden by a curtain; it contains a vacuum cleaner, an iron and an ironing board.
A portable A/C is available that can cool one room at a time.
The bathroom is also accessible through the kitchen area via a sliding door. It has a window, a shower, a washbasin, a bidet, a washing machine and, behind a small wall, the toilette.
Heat and hot water are both electric and individually metered.
The nearest metro stations are Rambuteau (line 11), Hotel de Ville (lines 1 and 11) and Arts et Métiers (lines 3 and 11).
