Description
2 Bedroom Apartment Rental in Southwark (LN-528)
2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, 1 Half Bathroom - Sleeps 4

This London vacation rental is a two bedroom apartment in Southwark on Upper Ground off Blackfriars Road overlooking the Thames. This two bedroom apartment has a large living room with a good size balcony looking directly onto the river Thames with great views across the river towards St Paul's Cathedral. The living room has Sky satellite TV as well as regular freeview cable and WIFI internet connection. At the other end of the living room is the dining table with seating for four. The kitchen is separate but adjacent to the living room and is equipped with electric oven and electric hob. You will find flexible sleeping accommodations in this apartment: The master bedroom has a king size bed and built-in wardrobes while the second bedroom has two single beds that can be pushed together to form a king size bed. It is perhaps the most relaxing place I've ever stayed. The terrace view can't be beat, It wraps around the entire living room with a river view from the Waterloo bridge to Blackfriars bridge and a skyline view from the Savoy Hotel to the City of London skyscrapers. Breakfast on the terrace is a great way to start a day. Great sunrises too. After a long day out exploring London there is nothing missing from the full kitchen. The landlord provides upscaled cable and watching TV at night with the Shard twinkling in the window to the right and St. Paul's Cathedral shining on the left feels good. The rain shower in the bathroom and the air conditioning in the bedrooms are another plus.

The view is magnificent and the apartment is filled with light all day long. You can hear the traffic on the bridge when the windows are open but it's no trouble in the bedrooms so you can sleep ok. There's plenty of linens and covers, everything is comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped. It is truly a lovely place in a great location. Everything is within walking distance and there are plenty of riverside walks to enjoy.

We were extremely satisfied with the apartment, the booking and the responsiveness of the owner and her agent. There is a major building project underway on the opposite bank of the Thames, this did not detract from our stay - but we could not rate it as perfectly quiet.

We loved our time there. Perfectly located for exploring Central London. It was lovely to come out to the living room in the morning and watch the tugboats on the river. The owner and maintenance person were attentive to our needs, and great to work with on minor problems. Remaining such problems would be the cold water tap that often runs hot--this is an issue the building, rather than the apartment owner and maintenance person, would need to fix, as I understand it. And the combo washer dryer that kind of steamed the clothing rather than drying it. These things in no way got in the way of our enjoyment of the place and our gratitude for the experience.

Hi Miriam

Thank you for the review. You were such great guests as I said to you before by the time you left you felt like family. Unfortunately the water problem comes and goes at Upper Ground off Blackfriars Road and is historic but again this week there are specialists attending to it once more. As for the washing machine I can't comment as I have never used it and it was installed a few days prior to your arrival.I am sure that you miss London but we certainly hope to see you back soon

I'd rent this again in a heartbeat. This great apt is the width of the Queen's Walkway from the River Thames. In 30 minutes or less, one can walk to Westminster Abbey, theater district, Trafalgar Square, Royal Opera House, Southbank Centre, Tate Modern, St. Paul's Cathedral, Borough Market, and more, enjoying the pedestrianized south bank en route; so much nicer than walking strictly along city streets. Lots of windows and glass doors so it is bright, airy, and the views are everywhere; St. Paul's chimes the time. Living/dining room need overhead lighting; kitchen lacks metal pans for oven; main bathroom needs shelf/storage of any kind. Porters were courteous; caretaker Steve friendly and helpful.

This is an excellent apartment - large, secure, well-equipped, great location and stunning views from the living areas. The owners of the apartment are not located in London - they were helpful and very relaxed about the whole arrangement and we had no complaints whatsoever with the owners.

On the downside, the apartment has been 'lived in' and is showing some signs of wear and tear - this did not bother us at all and was no doubt a factor in the low-ish rent being charged. The area of Southwark is currently (late 2013) experiencing a Dubai-like building boom and there is a significant amount of noise and disruption in the area.

Overall rating is 'highly recommended'!

Thanks for the comments all of which are valid. You were model guests, a pleasure to deal with. I have been trying to get to London to replace the sofas and the carpets and to install wooden floors,

However every time I think I have a gap another booking comes through. We have just sold our boutique hotel in Cape Town and so I will be coming to do just that in January.

I look forward to hosting you again in Rivercourt.

Regards

Janis
