Description
1 Bedroom Apartment Rental in Bastille (PA-1954)
1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom - Sleeps

Calm 58 m2 fully remodelled one bedroom + apartment, located on the 3rd floor of a 19th century walk-up building with a security system.

The East/West oriented apartment faces a little courtyard. It is very bright, thanks to three large traditional Parisian windows (living room, office space, bedroom), two large skylights (living room, bedroom) and two smaller skylights (open kitchen area, bathroom). The apartment has wooden floors, white painted walls, beams and 4 meter-high ceilings.  Tenants have access to the flat screen television and flat screen projector that can be connected to a computer.  There is a radio and sound system, as well as more than 150 TV channels for free.  The apartment is equipped with high speed internet and free international calls to more than 100 countries including USA and Canada.  A printer/scanner is also at the tenant's disposal.

The apartment is situated in the popular neighborhood of Bastille/Charonne/Rue de la Roquette. It is located just a few meters from the vibrant Place Voltaire, a pleasant and lively square with a wide range of food and convenience stores, restaurants, bars, cafes, supermarkets, open markets and others. The 11th Arrondissement City Hall brings a village quality to the square, which is the historical site of the village of Charonne.

Just five minutes walking distance is the Place de la Bastille, site of the Opera Bastille, considered one of the best opera houses in the world. In the immediate vicinity there are numerous shops, gorgeous restaurants, cafes and trendy nightclubs, as well as open street markets such as the well-known Parisian markets Boulevard Richard Lenoir (Thursday and Sunday mornings) or the Marché d’Aligre.  The apartment is very centrally located and is also near the fashionable, historic Marais area as well as the up-and-coming Rue Oberkampf neighborhood. Just a few streets away is the newly popular nightspot Rue du Faubourg St Antoine/Rue de Charonne, with such famous restaurants as Septime (named one of the best restaurants in the world), Bistro Paul Bert, Cyril Lignac's Chardenoux restaurant & his bakery, Bistro Melac, Paris Hanoi, La Casbah, Réservoir, and many more. The Père Lachaise cemetery is only a few blocks way.

The entry door opens on the 22-m2 living room. The comfortable living room is furnished with a convertible couch (queen size futon, 160cm wide), three antique armchairs, a coffee table, a working marble fireplace with a large antique mirror on top and a dining table with matching chairs (can seat six with the extension). A coat closet add to the convenience. It has a large window with red sheers and draperies, as well as a very large skylight fitted with Venetian blinds. There is another smaller skylight in the contiguous open kitchen area. This very bright area has high ceilings (4 meters) and beams. Adjacent to the living room is a nicely designed open kitchen.

The living room connects to a casual, bright, windowed office space/halfway with an antique desk, desk lamp and bookshelves. The large window is fitted with red sheers and draperies. The office space is computer friendly thanks to a number of electrical outlets as well as a comfortable leather office armchair. A U.S. computer keyboard is available. You will also enjoy the High Speed Internet ( ADSL) .

This office space/halfway leads to the large 18m2 bedroom, equipped with a queen-sized bed (160cm wide), bedside table with reading lamp, an antique chest of drawers, an armchair and a very large hanging clothing cabinet. A soft rug adds to the coziness, and the large bedroom window is fitted with red draperies, while the large skylight is equipped with an opaque Venetian blind.

The open, well-decorated kitchen is very well equipped, with a combo fridge-freezer, a self-cleaning electric oven, 4 gas burners, a microwave, a dishwasher, a coffee machine, an electric teakettle, a toaster and a double stainless steel sink. It comes with plenty of utensils and storage space.

The tiled bathroom has a marble counter. Above the sink is a large, convenient medicine cabinet with mirrored doors. The large bathtub has a wall-mounted showerhead, and the toilet is next to the bathtub. The bathroom is also equipped with a washing machine and drying rack, as well as a large cabinet for towels and sheets.

Heating and water heater are individual with gas.

The nearest metro station is Voltaire. (Line 9).

Apartment Rental: 5 months

A wonderful apartment for a single renter, a couple, or a pair of roommates trying to live cheaply! The apartment has a perfectly Parisian vibe to it and is located in a great residential area with amazing numbers of restaurants around it. It's nice to have amenities like a washer inside the apartment, and it also has a gas range and dishwasher. We were able to comfortably host 9 for thanksgiving celebrations.

The only issues were a broken bathroom door handle that never got fixed, and the lightbulbs in the living room went out often and are extremely difficult to replace; however, a good number of lamps offset the issue.

This apartment made our stay in Paris a million times easier and more fun.

Hello Marcel,

Thank you for this great feedback.

The door handle is not broken but there is one part missing. I knew about this beforehand and I discussed it with you by the way. I noticed it before I left the last time and this will be fixed when I will come back.

Regarding the light bulbs in the living room, they have been replaced in March 2016 but they seem to keep blowing and they are not easy to replace indeed because of the ceiling height and the intricate mechanism of the spotlight. I will have a look at it again during my next trip in March.

Thanks again

Jérôme.

I felt quite at home during my two month stay in this apartment. The apartment is roomy and nicely furnished - with a nice sized bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom. There is also a little office/study area that was perfect for getting some work done. The kitchen is fully equipped and I prepared many delicious meals there. There is nice sun from the skylights. The neighborhood has some really great restaurants and boulangeries and I found people in the area friendly and helpful. I also felt safe coming back late at night from a concert or a night out with friends - on velib or the Metro.

The apartment was perfect. It's located in the heart of happening Bastille, yet it feels like you are in the country with no one around while you are in the apartment. Everything works very well in the apartment and it's just huge!

This was a lovely old apartment in a quiet building. It is kept clean. And it has more than enough equipment for any renter.
It's condition would improve if the owner would come in person at least once a year to eliminate items left behind by renters who over the years have bought more towels, more pots, more pillows, and more dishes than any small apartment has room for. Worn or damaged (but clean) pots, sheets, and towels need to be jettisoned to make room. Some renters have left clothes behind. Until I cleaned out closets and reorganized shelves there was no room for me to hang clothes, and the kitchen & bathroom shelves were chaotic.
The apartment needs some minor repairs. The owner was gracious and helpful. They just need to send some one other than the femme de menage and repair man to make decisions that would keep the place in better order.

The location is safe and quiet, but the metro stop has awkward access to most other parts of Paris. REnters need to learn bus routes or to walk to more convenient metro stops. I left maps to help with this.
