Located in the historic and central district of Le Marais, in the 4th arrondissement of Paris, this one-of-a kind 4 bedroom - 3 bathroom duplex has a unique loft-like feel, full of charm. This rental is situated on the top two floors of a 3-story building dating from the 17th century, like many of the buildings in this neighborhood. However, this building has been modernized with an elevator and is secured with a digicode system and a concierge. Featuring no less than 15 windows, you are given a southern exposure on over the street through two of them and western and eastern exposures overlooking the peaceful private courtyard of the building through the thirteen others!

This unique apartment features exposed wood beams, hardwood floors as well as typical old red floor-tiles, giving it a quaint charm. Equipped with the major appliances you might need, as well as dishwasher, combination washer - dryer in the apartment, this duplex, which was renovated in 2011, also features special tailor-made furniture to make the most of the space available; for instance, the bed frames upstairs are ultra-thin to allow the most standing-room possible. In the living room, there is an overhead projector (with cable access), though please note that there is no formal TV. The rooms are furnished with a harmonious combination of modern, contemporary and antique pieces.

On the right-bank of the river Seine, you are in the heart of Le Marais, a district where both ancient and new cultural appeal is combined. Indeed, Place des Vosges, where the French author Victor Hugo lived, and Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis Church, symbol of the neighborhood, are only three blocks away from this accommodation on rue Charles V. At the same distance, you can find the the river Seine, facing the Ile-Saint-Louis with the Notre Dame Cathedral. You can also easily reach Place de la Bastille and its Opéra less than 1/3 mile away from your building. This area acts as a thoroughfare to many other parts of Paris, therefore offering many restaurants, cafés and diverse shops on your very street or around the corner, on Rue Saint-Paul or Rue Beautreillis. If you need to commute to the greater Notre Dame - Hôtel De Ville area or other parts of Paris, reach and connect with the 1, 5, 7, and 8 subway lines through the metro stations of Saint-Paul, Bastille and Sully-Morland (at most 1/3rd of a mile away).

Please note that the elevator is situated in the opposite building, and only leads to the lower level entrance of the duplex via several hallways, you then have to use either the spiral stairs in the living-room or the main staircase to reach the upper level of the apartment.

Note that the stairs leading to the upper duplex level are rather narrow.

The apartment location was superb. The apartment itself was a bit of a shock when we first toured it, including the remarks from the owner about don't touch this, don't spill here, I have covered things with sheets so you don't mess anything up. THe pictures of the apartment make it appear more modern than it is, however the place did grow on us. It is rustic,but livable. THe kitchen appliances are updated . THis is a very old apartment which hasn't been updated recently with the exception of the kitchen. Obviously old is wonderful, but it does need to be kept updated with paint, plumbing, etc.

I have done work to improve the place. I should stress that this is a seventeenth century building and it always retains a patina that may not appeal to tenants who would want to feel in the business suit of a hotel. I voluntarily kept the vintage bathtub and other traditional amenities, without compromising on the level of comfort. Unlike apts that were designed just to be rented to tourists, this is a genuine luxury parisian home. Thank you.
