Bed and Breakfast in Upper West Side (NY-11872)
2 Bedrooms - Duplex, 1 Bathroom, 1 Half Bathroom - Sleeps

These rooms for rent are in a shared duplex apartment on Manahattan's Upper West Side. Situated on 74th Street between Central Park West and Broadway, this apartment share is in a neighborhood that is home to many national icons as well as a stretch of convenient shops, a great location for both new visitors to NYC and those familiar with the area.

The available rooms for rent are situated on the upper level of a duplex and on the ground floor of a walk-up brownstone building. A narrow spiral staircase connects the upper level to the lower level rooms in the basement. The apartment does feature laundry facilities downstairs, available to guests.

The first room for rent, Bedroom 2, features a queen size bed, while the other available room, Living Room 2, has a double size futon. Living Room 2 also has a glass sliding door (though no window) that gives access to the apartment's private backyard garden.

Shared rooms upstairs include the living room, which is furnished with a sofa set, a dining table and a decorative fireplace. The shared kitchen is connected to the living room and is stocked with a coffee maker, toaster and microwave, as well as a dishwasher. All the basic plates, utensils, pots and pans are provided.

The backyard garden accessible through Living Room 2 and features a large patio table and a BBQ grill. Depending on the status of Living Room 2, the acess to the garden may be limited.

This part of the Upper West Side is quite convenient! The 1/2/3 and B/C trains are all within 3 blocks from the apartment (350m and 600m respectively), giving you both local and express trains that will take you to most parts of Manhattan directly! A bus can take you across Central Park to the Upper East Side (though it is a known to be a pleasant walk!).

The nice landlady provided us with a lot of information about the attractions we wanted to see. The apartment is very well located, next to the subway station and the city attractions. It is close to all services like the subway, convenience stores, restaurants and bike rentals. We had our breakfast on the apartment's sundeck every morning. Central Park and cycling paths are also nearby. All said and done, we loved our stay in this apartment.

Thank you for the lovely review and for treating my apartment as if it were your own home. It was so very nice to meet you and your husband and getting to know you both a little bit.
For future rentals on NY Habitat, I would highly recommend Lise and her husband as guests. They are a warm, very funny, charming couple and they left the apartment in perfect condition.

The apartment is very well located in NYC. (In front of Central Park, next to American History Museum and very close to 72nd subway station).

It is very confortable and the owner is very polite and trustable. We really had a nice time there. :)

Lori, the apartment owner, was super nice and always willing to help and give us advice. However upon arrival, the apartment had not been cleaned yet. She apologized and they cleaned it in that very afternoon. In the evening when Lori left, the dog that lived in the house for a few days scratched at the door because he missed the owner, that was a bit annoying.

We never used the kitchen so I can't evaluate its appliances and amenities.

Hello Rosario, thank you for taking the time to leave a review and it makes me happy to know that you appreciated all of the extra things I did to make you and your friend's visit to NY more enjoyable. It is fortunate that the apartment is large enough to be able to accommodate your extra guest at the last minute even though it was not in your contract.

I am glad that you appreciated my willingness to work with you in this regard. Thank you for acknowledging the cleanliness of the apartment by the afternoon of your arrival. My dog lives with my family in the suburbs so it was an exception for him to be in NYC at the apartment for a few days to see a veterinarian due to a health issue. I apologize for the noise that he made scratching on the door that one night. It is not normally a problem and he is not in the apartment anymore.

I really want my guests to be comfortable so I am truly sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused and I hope you will come visit to NYC again soon. You are always welcome.

This subletter is charming and helpful. The only improvement needed is to do with the perfect insulation in the cellar that is on the same level as the accommodation, hence the roaches coming through!!!

Thank you for your comments and it was such a pleasure to meet you and your lovely mother! I really appreciated the thoughtfulness of the nice card she gave me upon her departure. It was very sweet of her to take the time to write some kind word of thanks to me.

I think the bugs you are referring to are not roaches but water bugs. I had the apartment treated after her stay to make sure the problem is solved. However, like in many apartments in NYC, it is possible to find a bug once in a while. I am really sorry about this inconvenience. I take pride in making my guests comfortable and should something like this occur again, I will take care of it immediately.

Although she did not speak a lot of English, she communicated that she really enjoyed the cleanliness, safety and convenience of the apartment and neighborhood. Please send her my warm regards and let her know that she is welcome to stay again!

Lori, the owner, is very kind and gracious. The apartment is in an ideal, strategic location.

Unfortunately it's a basement apartment, and if you know NY, I don't need to say more.

Thank you for your kind comments Andrea. It is fortunate that the apartment is large enough to be able to accommodate your cousin to join you and your uncle at the last minute for a night and you could spend time with him.

Most of the apartment is not basement apartment and because it is on the ground level, we have the special privilege of being the only apartment in the brownstone that has private access to the lovely garden, although the lower level is sub surface.

I always hope that my guests let me know if there is something I can do to make their stay more comfortable as I always work hard to insure that. I am glad that you liked the location, indeed it is very convenient and the neighborhood is wonderful.

Very spacious and comfortable. Should let people know that access is a very narrow spiral staircase. I would stay here again. Great location for upper west side and Lincoln Center.

Thanks for the feedback, Luise. We took your suggestion and updated our apartment description, specifying that the spiral staircase is very narrow. Glad you enjoyed your stay in NYC and hope you come back in the near future!

The owner gave us a great welcome and was very hospitable and flexible! I loved staying at her place, the neighborhood was absolutely perfect for a stay in NYC, quiet and near everything you need like grocery stores, restaurants and a subway stop!

I hope I can stay there again when I come back to NYC!

Friends had recommended New York Habitat to me as an excellent accommodation-location service. I am so glad I took their advice, as the apartment I stayed in was not only excellent value, but comfortable, warm, quiet, perfectly situated and an all-round terrific experience.

If I ever return to NY, I would choose to stay there again, in, as they say, 'a New York minute.' The apartment was very spacious for New York, the street was quiet and residential, but also close to everywhere I wanted to be. All the delis and restaurants of the Upper West Side were close by, and I could walk through the park to Museum Mile. Times Square was close - but not too close! - by.

The apartment was nicely furnished, and everything I needed - television, DVD player, books and magazines, a mini refrigerator, etc - was right there. The shared kitchen and shower were excellent, too.

The apartment owner, Lori, was kind and super-helpful. I feel she went above-and-beyond for me. She recommended restaurants in the neighborhood for me, and even introduced me to friends of hers who she thought had similar interests to my own. I know a few people in NY, but it was excellent to have the opportunity to meet some more.

From the moment I entered the apartment I felt at home. All in all, it was an extremely satisfying, happy stay, and I feel very lucky to have chosen this particular apartment, and to have used New York Habitat to guide this stay.
