This two bedroom apartment in Crown Heights is bursting with character: here you've got beautiful stained wood door and window sashes, original moldings on the ceilings to accent the height, a decorative fireplace inlaid with brick and stained glass windows. Found on the first floor (considered the ground floor by Europeans) of a 3-story Brooklyn townhouse, enjoy your time in this classic apartment. Please note that due to its age, this building will best suit people who appreciate antique architecture. However, there is an intercom system at the building entrance for guests to announce themselves.
This apartment has a nice layout that affords you more privacy than average, as the bedrooms are situated on opposite sides of the living room. This also gives the apartment double exposure, with light streaming in from both the north (Bedroom 1) and the south (Bedroom 2 and Living Room). The rooms are simply furnished, but offer all you need to get a full night's rest, with two full size beds and a double size sofa bed in the living room. The bathroom in the apartment is equipped with a bathtub a sink and a toilet. You have cable and wireless Internet access, and air conditioning units can be available to help you through New York's infamous summers.
Found on Dean Street, nestled in a row of townhouses between two main thoroughfares of Crown Heights, this apartment is ideally situated. Around the corner on Nostrand Avenue, you have all types of small convenience shops and local restaurants and delis. A stroll 4 blocks north will take you to Fulton Street, with the A/C subway station. If you're headed to Manhattan, grab the A train, which will get you there in 4 stops! Of course, Brooklyn has plenty of attractions as well, with Prospect Park to the south of the apartment, one of the largest parks in New York City, envisioned by the same designers as Central Park. For a bit of culture, visit the Brooklyn Museum on the edge of the park, housing NYC's second largest art collection, or let your kids explore the Brooklyn Children's Museum (4 blocks away). Also a bit north of the area is the Barclays Center, home to the basketball team the Brooklyn Nets and many concerts throughout the year, accessible via bus or a longer walk. The Bedford-Stuyvesant area is also to the north, another lovely neighborhood full of historic brownstones and townhouses.
For guests traveling from the JFK airport, there is easy transit via the AirTrain shuttle to the LIRR train, which will take you to the neighborhood in 5 stops, and then the apartment is only a 3 block walk away (about 400m). You can also walk 4 blocks (approx. 550m) to the local subway (A or C trains).

Maurice was a very nice host who went out of his way for us. He was always very responsive when we asked him questions by email. |
Review by: Cecile L., Aug 05 2016 From: France, Accommodation Rental: 3 days |
This apartment truly corresponds to its description: it is very quiet and a 10-minute walk from the subway which brought us to the heart of Manhattan. Convenience stores, supermarkets and international takeaway food are nearby. Kitchen is small but convenient for breakfast or to heat food. For information, we were a group of 5 and the place was not cramped. Maurice, the owner, welcomed us very nicely. |

This is a typical New York apartment. Owner is nice. However, it is really far from Manhattan (a 30-minute subway ride). We were quite disgusted by the rats in the street in front of our doorstep. Bath towels were not very clean. |

This apartment is very big, both bedrooms are huge and very comfortable, bright and airy. The sofa bed in the living room is also very comfortable. Kitchen is tiny, but we only used it for breakfast so it was OK. There were not many utensils (only one teaspoon) and kitchen towels (dish towel, dishcloth, etc). We spent a wonderful week in this apartment and we would come back with great pleasure. |
Answer by: Accommodation Owner Oct 08 2015 |
The apartment was originally stock with towels and sets of 5, on all sizes in spoons etc, I will immediately replenish all need utensils. |

Review by: Cherline P., Sep 30 2014 From: United States, Accommodation Rental: 5 days |
The apartment was very comfortable and clean. The occupants were satisfied with the domicile, and they did not have any personal issues with the property and/or living conditions. However, some of the occupants had decided to extend their stay in NYC for two extra days. My sister and I contacted and personally met with Maurice (the rental apartment's owner)to discuss and negotiate the rates for those two day. Initially, Maurice demanded the rental rate of $600.00 for the two extra days. We explained to him that we could not afford to pay an additional $600.00 for the extra two days. The owner asked how much did we have, and we had informed him that we only had $300.00. He agreed to the rate of $300.00, and we all modified the terms of the original contract that was negotiated and drafted by Christophe at New York Habitat. On Tuesday, the 23rd of September 2014 (our last day at the rental property), the owner and I agreed to meet at 12:30 P.M. to return the keys to the rental apartment in exchange of our $500.00 rental deposit. My 60 year old mother, 74 year old great aunt, 28 year old sister and I thoroughly cleaned the apartment, and we patiently waited for him to arrive. 12:30 P.M. came and went, but no owner. I had made several calls to the owner, and he finally arrived late to the rental apartment several minutes past 1pm. He immediately asked us whether we had broken anything in the apartment, and we assured him that everything in the rental apartment was in the same condition as we had found it. He proceeded to tell us that he had to charge us an additional $200.00 for "refresh," and was only returning $300.00 of our deposit. To our astonishment, we could not believe he tried to manipulate a group of women. We felt completely ambushed and vulnerable, and immediately reminded him that the terms of the original and modified contract are binding. We demanded our $500.00 deposit, and adamantly told him that we were not accepting anything less than $500.00; the amount that was paid as a refunded rental deposit on September 16, 2014 to him. Unfortunately, we argued back and forth with the owner for more than fifteen minutes (which seemed an eternity), while he tried to convince us that we needed to take in consideration that he discounted the two additional days. Therefore, we owed him $200.00 for "refresh." We did not understand what he was talking about when he kept repeating the phrase "refresh." We advised him to return our $500.00, or we would not return the keys to the rental property. The owner realized that we were not adhering to his outrageous demand, and he reluctantly gave us the $500.00 rental deposit. We gave him his keys and promptly left the premises. It was really unfortunate that we had to experience and endured such hostility at the end of our stay at the rental apartment. Ultimately, we felt bamboozled by the owner, and hope nobody else is being hoodwinked by him. He is a very dishonest individual. New York Habitat has had a great reputation, and should definitely be careful when doing business with him, otherwise the consequences could be serious and dire for the company's reputation. |
Answer by: New York Customer Service Dec 03 2014 |
Thank you for your feedback, Cherline! I'm glad you enjoyed the apartment. Further to your review, we followed up with the host and investigated what transpired regarding your extension and security deposit. This host is someone New York Habitat has worked with extensively throughout the years. There has never been a similar complaint against this host. You and your guests had rented the first floor apartment as well as the second floor apartment for your group of 14 people. When you requested an extension, the host requested the contracted extension rate. As you informed the host that you were not able to afford this, the owner agreed to a lower negotiated rate. You and the owner agreed that this amount would be taken out of the deposit. This extension was just for one of the apartments. However, at the end of your stay, the host found out that your guests in the apartment upstairs had moved into the first floor apartment, making it a total of 14 people in that one apartment. As the apartment is not intended to accommodate that many people, the host found that there were broken and missing items at the end of your stay. He sought to recoup for the damages but ultimately only took the amount of the extension fee from your security deposit. Thank you for your feedback! |

The hosts are lovely and extremely hospitable. The apartment is very comfortable and big, except for the tiny kitchen but we knew that. The weak point is the soundproofing from outside noise. We also notified the host about how difficult it is the unlock the entrance doors with the keys... overall we are delighted with this vacation rental that can be recommended to anyone who enjoys walking since it's still a bit far from Manhattan. |
Answer by: Accommodation Owner Sep 09 2014 |
Thank you for your review, the entrance door lock was adjusted to make easer not a problem, as far as noise goes, while The area is generally very quiet, there was that one night of a summer street fair that attracted a lot of people, the days fallow all went back to normal. A 20 min ride into Manhattan is considered a short ride by most. |
Review by: Marc F., Jul 18 2014 From: Switzerland, Accommodation Rental: 7 days |
Accommodation matches its description, good size, kitchen a bit on the small side. Warm welcome from the hosts and helpfulness well-appreciated. To be recommended even if far from Manhattan. |

Answer by: Accommodation Owner Jan 06 2014 |
Thank you for your review Federica, we always do our best to assist our clients in having a great stay, a 20 minute train ride into Manhattan is not considered a long ride by most, and that's the shortest train ride into Manhattan from any of the other borough outside of the city. |

The accommodation is located in a quiet residential street in Brooklyn. Apart from the last night where a neighbor had a party, we could get to sleep and sleep late in the morning without any problem. There are take away restaurants really close by and supermarkets and stores 2 min away. There is an express line for the subway a 5-min walk away which takes you to Manhattan in 15 - 20 min. |
