New York Accommodation - 2 Bedroom Rental in Crown Heights (NY-15268)

Maurice was a very nice host who went out of his way for us. He was always very responsive when we asked him questions by email.
The apartment was pleasant, next to subways and shops.
We will definitely stay there again.

This apartment truly corresponds to its description: it is very quiet and a 10-minute walk from the subway which brought us to the heart of Manhattan. Convenience stores, supermarkets and international takeaway food are nearby. Kitchen is small but convenient for breakfast or to heat food. For information, we were a group of 5 and the place was not cramped. Maurice, the owner, welcomed us very nicely.

This is a typical New York apartment. Owner is nice. However, it is really far from Manhattan (a 30-minute subway ride). We were quite disgusted by the rats in the street in front of our doorstep. Bath towels were not very clean.

This apartment is very big, both bedrooms are huge and very comfortable, bright and airy. The sofa bed in the living room is also very comfortable. Kitchen is tiny, but we only used it for breakfast so it was OK. There were not many utensils (only one teaspoon) and kitchen towels (dish towel, dishcloth, etc). We spent a wonderful week in this apartment and we would come back with great pleasure.

The apartment was very comfortable and clean. The occupants were satisfied with the domicile, and they did not have any personal issues with the property and/or living conditions. However, some of the occupants had decided to extend their stay in NYC for two extra days. My sister and I contacted and personally met with Maurice (the rental apartment's owner)to discuss and negotiate the rates for those two day. Initially, Maurice demanded the rental rate of $600.00 for the two extra days. We explained to him that we could not afford to pay an additional $600.00 for the extra two days. The owner asked how much did we have, and we had informed him that we only had $300.00. He agreed to the rate of $300.00, and we all modified the terms of the original contract that was negotiated and drafted by Christophe at New York Habitat. On Tuesday, the 23rd of September 2014 (our last day at the rental property), the owner and I agreed to meet at 12:30 P.M. to return the keys to the rental apartment in exchange of our $500.00 rental deposit. My 60 year old mother, 74 year old great aunt, 28 year old sister and I thoroughly cleaned the apartment, and we patiently waited for him to arrive. 12:30 P.M. came and went, but no owner. I had made several calls to the owner, and he finally arrived late to the rental apartment several minutes past 1pm. He immediately asked us whether we had broken anything in the apartment, and we assured him that everything in the rental apartment was in the same condition as we had found it. He proceeded to tell us that he had to charge us an additional $200.00 for "refresh," and was only returning $300.00 of our deposit. To our astonishment, we could not believe he tried to manipulate a group of women. We felt completely ambushed and vulnerable, and immediately reminded him that the terms of the original and modified contract are binding. We demanded our $500.00 deposit, and adamantly told him that we were not accepting anything less than $500.00; the amount that was paid as a refunded rental deposit on September 16, 2014 to him. Unfortunately, we argued back and forth with the owner for more than fifteen minutes (which seemed an eternity), while he tried to convince us that we needed to take in consideration that he discounted the two additional days. Therefore, we owed him $200.00 for "refresh." We did not understand what he was talking about when he kept repeating the phrase "refresh." We advised him to return our $500.00, or we would not return the keys to the rental property. The owner realized that we were not adhering to his outrageous demand, and he reluctantly gave us the $500.00 rental deposit. We gave him his keys and promptly left the premises. It was really unfortunate that we had to experience and endured such hostility at the end of our stay at the rental apartment. Ultimately, we felt bamboozled by the owner, and hope nobody else is being hoodwinked by him. He is a very dishonest individual. New York Habitat has had a great reputation, and should definitely be careful when doing business with him, otherwise the consequences could be serious and dire for the company's reputation.

The hosts are lovely and extremely hospitable. The apartment is very comfortable and big, except for the tiny kitchen but we knew that. The weak point is the soundproofing from outside noise. We also notified the host about how difficult it is the unlock the entrance doors with the keys... overall we are delighted with this vacation rental that can be recommended to anyone who enjoys walking since it's still a bit far from Manhattan.

The hosts of this vacation rental were very kind, gracious and helpful. The accommodation is a 5-minute walk from Nostrand subway which takes you to the center of Manhattan in about 15 minutes.

The area is dirty but fairly quiet. I recommend it for a group of friends who are not too demanding!

The apartment is clean, comfortable, spacious, comfortable for 4 people, the only flaw the bathroom, clean but small and without windows, the kitchen is small but is equipped with everything you need.

Owners extremely friendly and willing to help you in everything. It is in a residential area of Brooklyn, far from Manhattan, but there are metro lines (blue).

This accommodation is really beautiful and very well situated in Brooklyn. Old structure! Quick access to Manhattan - 20 min with the express train. Lively shopping area. The building is in a peaceful and quiet street.

The host is very friendly and hospitable.

It is a spacious apartment with two nice big bedrooms. The bathroom and the kitchen are functional and for a one-week stay it is more than enough. We felt safe in the neighborhood and in the apartment close to the subway and a supermarket.

Sharon and Maurice are very accommodating, we had a late checkout because of our flight. It is good value for the money/space/location. I recommend it.

The apartment was perfectly located and ideally arranged. The bedrooms are huge and the beds very comfortable. The kitchen is small but practical.

The hosts are delightful and welcomed us very nicely. Sharon provided some fruit, cereals, tea... the basics for the first breakfast, given our late arrival.

The hosts gave us all the necessary helpful information for our NYC stay.

We definitely enjoy our staying, except a misunderstanding with the owner about the time of our arrival, everything was ok.

We found the apartment to be spacious and comfortable. Initially when we were walking from the subway to the apt, we thought the area was a little sketchy but as we got familiar with the area, we became more comfortable with it. The area is very diverse but safe.

My son and I stayed out late several nights and never had a problem walking back to the apt. The apt bedrooms were huge (for NY) and it felt very inviting. I thought the tiny kitchen was cute, efficient and just what I needed to cook breakfast and warm up other meals.

Overall, we would stay here again. Excellent value, very friendly and professional owner (Maurice), and a great vacation place.

We enjoyed our vacation rental although it is more run down than the photos suggest. The outdoor area is really dirty, especially at the back (garden). We saw some rats in the trash in front of the house on several occasions. Nothing to complain about regarding the bathroom or the kitchen, which are very small, but it's probably the norm in NY. Excellent wifi connection.

The hosts are nice but be aware they don't speak French at all. The neighborhood is quiet but we never got back home late at night. Excellent subway connection with JFK and Manhattan.

In our opinion, the rent is still a bit high given the run-down state.

The accommodation is located in a quiet residential street in Brooklyn. Apart from the last night where a neighbor had a party, we could get to sleep and sleep late in the morning without any problem. There are take away restaurants really close by and supermarkets and stores 2 min away. There is an express line for the subway a 5-min walk away which takes you to Manhattan in 15 - 20 min.

The hosts are nice and helpful. They provided apples, water, butter for breakfast. The neighborhood seems to be very safe and very quiet.

It is good quality for the money for two couples or a family with one or two children on a budget. An extra blanket (used by our second child) for the sofa would be an improvement.

It is a vintage style apartment, typical with lots of wood, which can be an issue if you're allergic. The WC are not separate from the bathroom.

Good value for the money for this vacation rental. However, it is located on the first floor and we endured noise disruptions from the occupant in the upstairs apartment.

The apartment was very good, it was a good experience, we will repeat it, if we will have the opportunity. Punctuality in the appointments, politeness and kindness.

The accommodation was comfortable, quiet, spacious, close to shops and public transport. The owner is very nice, forthcoming and obliging.

The owner was very nice, he takes time for us and explain us everything. As a problem with the bathroom appears he fixed it immediately. We had not problems else, everything works fine.

If someone of my friends need an apartment I would recommend this.

The accommodation is pretty big and in a quiet area. You can't hear anything at all from the bedroom at the back, it is absolutely quiet. We felt really comfortable.

Overall, the equipment was adequate. The host went out of his way. It just could have been a little cleaner. The apartment is well suited for 4 people. For 6, the size would still be fine but with only bathroom it would be the limit.

Personally, we really enjoyed the apartment location. It is not far from the subway station and it takes about 25 min. to Manhattan. All in all, we felt very comfortable. The owner is planning to add a computer with an Internet connection in the apartment, which is, of course, a huge plus.
