Spacious studio with views of St. Gervais in the Marais
|
This spacious 55 m2 studio apartment is located in the historic Marais area, between the Seine River and the Place Baudoyer with the River Seine, the Ile St. Louis and Notre Dame Cathedral lying at a 30 second, 1 minute and 5 minute stroll, respectively. Located on an ancient, cobbled pedestrian-only street, the apartment lies in a historically protected, 18th century stone building (pierre de taille), and it overlooks the spectacular church of St. Gervais with its utterly serene secret garden. The most ancient buildings of the Marais are found in this exclusive part of the Marais as are many of the famous hotels particuliers that were the town homes of the French court from the 16th to the 18th centuries. A few minutes walking distance north, across the rue de Rivoli, lies a lively and trendy part of the Marais, with the Picasso Museum, the Carnavalet Museum, and the beautiful and architecturally important Place des Vosges (the French writer Victor Hugo lived at #6), to name just a few important points of interest. Here, the visitor will also find a thriving art and design community, with galleries and clothing and design shops, as well as a mixture of traditional French, international, and trendy cafes and restaurants. Walking back across the Rue de Rivoli and due east from the apartment, through the calm, ancient streets lying between the Rue de Rivoli and Seine, the visitor will come upon the remnants of the ancient walls of Paris and the charming Village St. Paul, where antiques can be purchased in the small and charming shops housed in its vine-walled courtyards. Minutes beyond lies the lively Place de la Bastille, symbol of the French republic, and home to the Opera Bastille.
The apartment is situated on the fourth floor of a walk-up building and has an intercom security system. The prime east/west exposure, windows, and lofty ceiling height make this apartment pleasant. There are parquet floors throughout, except for the bathroom, WC, and kitchen which are tiled. The walls are painted an earth-based, creamy color, and the apartment boasts antique French engravings, architectural lamps from the 1940s, and a ceiling fixture from the 1920s.
Light floods into the entry with its floor to ceiling, multiple-paned window and two closets.
The windowed, eat-in-kitchen is equipped with a double-basined sink and cupboards, wood work surface, small fridge, microwave, two hotplates, coffee maker, toaster, and eating table with two stools.
The bathroom, simple yet comfortable with white tiles on floor and walls, has a washbasin surmounted by a large mirror, a shower, and a cupboard for storage.
The 35 m2 living room has two pairs of windows facing the glorious gothic garden facade of the church of St. Gervais (illuminated from sundown). The room is decorated with pale inner blinds, two sofas (one converts to a 140 cm wide sofa bed) flanked by side tables and architectural lamps, a dining table/desk and lamp, a Queen size (160 cm wide) bed flanked by antique bedside tables and two lamps, three wooden chest of drawers, a TV with a VCR, Fax machine, and telephone. Through a door off the living room lies a room which houses the washing machine. Another door separates this room from the WC. Both rooms have windows decorated with inner shades.
The metros Hotel de Ville (line 1&11) and St. Paul are equidistant from the apartment.
