Studio apartment in the Latin Quarter
|
Located in the quiet rue Lhomond (named after the 17th Century grammarian) the 25m2 studio is located in a lovely, well maintained, pied à terre elevator building built in the art deco era. The two adjacent streets (rue d'Ulm and rue Pierre et Marie Curie) house various distinguished university buildings, such as Ecole Normale Superieur and the Institute Henri Poincaré. In the other direction lies the cobblestoned Place Pantheon containing, in addition to the Pantheon, a beautiful renaissance church - all at the top of rue Soufflot which leads quickly down to the Sorbonne and the Luxembourg Gardens on Blvd. St. Michel. Also close by are the several cafes surrounding Place de la Contrescarpe which stands at the beginning of rue Mouffetard - a street famous for its wonderful outdoor market.
Everywhere one finds a multitude of excellent little restaurants, both French and ethnic. In particular, rue Thouin, rue du Pot de Fer and rue Descartes are full of these lovely bistros. Nearby transportation includes the metro stations at rue Cardinal Lemoine and rue Monge as well as the RER at Luxembourg with direct access to Chatelet (Les Halles and Centre Pompidou) and the airports. Many buses are also easily accessible.
Everything so far described is easily within a ten minute walk, but just slightly further, one reaches the Seine, Isle de la Cité, Notre Dame, Place Odeon, the cathedral St. Sulpice and the boutiques on Blvd. St. Germain leading to St. Germain de Pré.

As for the apartment itself, it is on the 3rd (European) floor and is clear, light and airy (with a view of the dome of the Pantheon). The modern convertible sofa was chosen to be extremely comfortable, both for sleeping and sitting. A beautiful Louis XIII armoire serves as a closet while a walnut English secretary encompasses a desk, drawer space and a bookshelf. An elegant Louis XVI mirror graces one wall while an abstract oil is placed over an early American maple drop leaf table on the other wall. There is a TV and a Stereo/CD.
The separate kitchen is fully equipped and contains a new refrigerator, electric cooktop, microwave, toaster, both a filter and an electric coffee maker and a supply of dishware, pots and pans and utensils.
The bathroom contains a standard French bathtub with telephone shower and shower curtain. Ample towels and linens are supplied.
