Studio bordering the Seine in the heart of the St. Michel area
|
Neighborhood:
Bordering the Seine and just beside Notre Dame, this exceptional location in the heart of the Latin Quarter is one of the most youthful areas of Paris and it abounds with historical points of interest. It has been the center of Parisian education - including the Sorbonne -- since the Middle Ages. In the nearby pedestrian streets there are many diverse restaurants and cafes, and many fashion shops, bookstores, and other services along the Boulevard Saint Michel and the famous Boulevard Saint Germain.
An original aspect of this building is that the painter Matisse, one of the most influential artists of the 1900s, had his "atelier" on the top floor. The building is bordered by one of the oldest streets in Paris and the most narrow -- rue du Chat qui Pêche (Fishing Cat Street) -- which links the quai Saint Michel to the Rue de la Huchette. It is called this because during the 15th century this is where the neighborhood cats used to deposit fishes they caught in the nearby Seine River. This street is one of the rarest in Paris and has kept its 15th century authenticity. Premises:
This 15m² (approx. 160 sq. ft.) studio apartment is located on the sixth floor of a walk-up building from the 16th century; it has a security system and a concierge. The main entrance gate opens into a corridor leading to a courtyard. From there a second door opens into the authentic wooden staircase. This apartment is very bright and has a northern exposure.
The entrance has a small closet. The entrance door faces the open kitchen and opens directly into the 12m² (approx. 130 sq. ft.) living room. It has two double-glazed windows with rolling shutters that overlook the courtyard. It is furnished with a single-size futon bed, a desk and shelves. There is also a high-speed Internet connection (via cable).
The open kitchen is equipped with two vitro ceramic burners topped by a cooker hood, a small refrigerator, a toaster, a coffee machine, a microwave, a kettle and an Italian style coffee maker.
The bathroom has a skylight and contains a shower, a washbasin, a washing machine, a toilette, and a small closet.
Heat and hot water are both electric and individually metered.
In addition to several nearby bus lines serving almost all of the city, the closest metro station is Saint Michel (line 4 and the RER B and C).
