Description
Studio Apartment in City (LN-214)
Studio, 1 Bathroom - Sleeps

Within the City area of London, an important and historical district of the London, stands a charming studio apartment awaiting occupation. Located on Cornhill between Leadenhall Street and Cheapside, it resides on the third floor (fourth floor in America) of a period walk-up building. This elegant accommodation for one boasts windows in each room for maximum ventilation and provides a security system attached to the building.

The charming abode offers beautiful hardwood floors throughout with modern accessories furnishing each room. Presenting a classy atmosphere, the 18sqm (193sqf) living space is decorated with a small dining table for meals or downtime activities, and black leather chairs for sitting. Opposite this table is a decorative fireplace. A bouquet of flowers can perch upon the deco fireplace to bestow the room with a splash of warm color, and three large windows allow crisp London air to flow throughout the studio. A nicely equipped open kitchen provides you with cooking equipment such as a fridge freezer, and the private bathroom includes a shower, toilet, mirror, and washing machine. These carefully chosen amenities give this charismatic living space a commodious-feel, while remaining comfortable and attractive.

The City of London offers easy transportation to all areas of Central London and provides a variety of attractions located within walking distance of the apartment for rent. The Bank of England is just 200m (656ft) from the front door. For drinks or a night out, walk down the street to The Hoop & Grapes on Aldgate Street or Vertigo 42 on Old Broad Street. Lovers of fresh produce should check out the farmers market on Finsbury Square Avenue, while lovers of art will adore Birdewell Theatre and Bar or Bloomberg SPACE. All of these are within walking distance from your potential vacation (in SU) home! You will also be near such attractions as the Lloyds Building, the Tower of London, and the landmark building 30 St Mary Axe, commonly referred to as the Gherkin due to its unusual design. The nearest underground station is just down the street (Bank – about 320 meters or .2 miles), offering Central and Northern lines, DLR, and underground link to Monument for Circle and District lines. In other words, it will take you all over London and back!

Well-located apartment, the owner was very receptive in the event of a problem or questions!

- Noise was infernal. I couldn't sleep because of single-glazed windows, constant construction in the street and the garbage truck that passed every day (during at least 30 minutes) as there are many shops in the street.
- Dirty apartment. I found a used condom under the bed when vacuuming and rearranging the apartment.
- Never received a proper rental agreement.
- Deposit was unprotected.
- To date, I still didn't get back the full deposit (questionable and/or dishonest explanations).

I sent NYH the paperwork proving that your security deposit was protected by "a government authorized tenancy deposit scheme."
Regarding your deposit, I made some legal deductions (proof sent to NYH) and I refunded 97% of your deposit.
This added up to approximately £15 worth of deductions which didn't even pay for the removal by the City of London of the filthy mattress which you left behind in breach of the terms of our Assured Shorthold Tenancy (AST) agreement. Under English law your tenancy was automatically an AST agreement - no piece of paper can strengthen or weaken that legal status.
Since 2002 you were the first occupant to complain of noise. But I respect that people have different tolerance levels - on the plus side, the City of London has now introduced a car and lorry ban across Bank junction Monday to Friday 7 am to 7 pm so at those times Cornhill has become remarkably quiet and very easy to cross.
I disagree with your low ranking of the building - it's a very rare find; a residential house in EC3 which is a Grade II listed building where you can see a Wren church just metres away from your bathroom. In terms of history, that's some privilege.
Similarly, I'd contest that the location is superb - less than a two minute walk to the Bank of England. How central can one get?!?
Thanks
Mark

Enjoyed my stay here. Perfectly located in London; within 10 minutes at Oxford Circus, Westminster.

The apartment itself with location was generally nice. I was able to see the paralympic marathon from my room. But I felt that steps were little bit dangerous to climb up/down. It was very hard to bring my suitcase.

Unfortunatelly, the owner annoyed me to fix the electricity. I did not think his response was appropriate.

Thank you.

This third floor studio is in a Grade II listed house steeped in history and there are quirky features such as the steep, winding staircase and the crooked house feel of some of the walls. It can be difficult for anyone with a heavy suitcase knowing that there is no elevator. But there are modern compensations such as a central heating system, a state of the art combination electric water heater and a Baumatic oven with a 4 plate ceramic hob.

We have a contractor whom we readily pay for to come out to resolve any maintenance problems when they arise; but we also expect our clients to be caring with knobs and buttons in order to maintain them in good condition.

This studio remains very popular, especially with clients who work in the Eastern part of the City and who appreciate the 7 day a week food shopping close by, the excellent transport links and the endless choice of restaurants, bars, shops and iconic architecture within easy walking distance.
