Neighborhood: One of the trendiest and most up and coming spots in Lower Manhattan. Located near New York University and Cooper Union, the area is populated by a mix of students, artists, and more and more professionals. The East Village starts east of Broadway and is considered and absolutely unique place.
It still retains its funky and trendy character, and is one of the most fun and popular neighborhoods in the city.
There are dozens and dozens of cheap, wonderful ethnic restaurants of every persuasion within a 5-minute walk, from the Sixth Street's Little India, with Bangladeshi and also Pakistani restaurants to St. Mark's Place, famous hangout for visitors and residents of all hues, and the beloved Second Avenue Deli. Cafés, restaurants and bars tumble out onto the sidewalks here, and music-everything from reggae to hip-hop-blast from clubs, pubs, and touristy trinket stores. The greenery of Tompkins Square Park is a nice place to relax and there are many boutiques in this neighborhood which makes for terrific shopping.
